Tania Thanks so much for all your help, I am pretty impressed.Was all this info freely available?Im pretty confident after your email that they are the right people. One of my other English relatives sent a letter that had been sent to my family in England from Australia in 1937. I didnt have much info to go off and it didnt mention any names other than Lissie (Elizabeth- very common name at the time, so may or may not have been Elizabeth hughes)BUT it did mention a child called Bruce,so your info ties in perfectly.

I think im definitely much closer to tracking them down. Once again thanks for all your help. You must have spent a fair amount of time looking, I really appreciate it.

Looks like two of Robert Theodore & Elizabeth Hughes children married Guttormsen's. And they did have another son Robert Bruce. See Robert Bruce's engagement notice , Thomas Theodore's marriage and also Elizabeth Hughes death notice, which connects the families and children.

Death notice mention another brother Bruce? possibly Robert Bruce HUGHES who shows up on the 1949 Electoral roll Qld District Fisher with Robert Theodore and Thomas Theodore in same area. Notice also says brother Robert Theodore perhaps they got father and brother's names mixed up. Sure it is your family. If it is should be easy to check whitepages telephone directory for Guttormsen's in Qld to find a relative.

Thanks for your help. Robert was my Great Uncle. Yes his wifes name was Elizabeth Diana Bliss,but I think on some records she is recorded as Diana? I have found their certificate of Marriage. I have them with a Son Thomas and a daughter Margery, but was unsure whether they were born in England or Australia. Where was it that you found the records for passenger lists (FindmyPast?)I would be interested to confirm this aspect.

I have located electoral records for them but what I am really trying to do is get in touch with any of their family or descendants. Im from England but I now live in Canada.

Thanks for your help, I will explore whether their children were born in Kings Norton or Oz.

My Bliss Family in the New York area:

My father’s family hails from Painted Post, NY. My grandfather (I believe) spelled his name Ernest Edward Bliss, and was married to Irene Bliss. My father is Earnest Edward Bliss, Jr. I am Earnest Edward Bliss III, and my son is Earnest Edward Bliss IV. I am married to Bonnie Jean (Buchanan) Bliss, and also have a daughter, Victoria Elizabeth Bliss

My father was raised in Painted Post and Corning, NY. He moved extensively in a career as a Cable TV executive, and now lives retired in Hermitage, PA. I have also moved quite a bit, and now concurrently reside in Whitehouse, OH and Casalle Litta, Lombardia, Italy.

Earnest IV is a college student and he lives in Northwood, OH (near Whitehouse and Toledo, OH). Victoria is also a college student and living in Toledo, OH.

Any connection to the other NY Bliss family?

Several years ago I saw the Bliss Family Crest during a visit to London. It was one of many, many crests and emblems and it was on the ceiling of the building I was in. It was, specifically, the third row up and third from the left side. A friend excitedly pointed this out to me.

I now am moving to Europe with my family. I wanted to take them to see this. Windsor Castle was the first building we visited in London, and I remember that this is where the crest is shown. Can this be correct? If not there, where?

Not sure who the question, "can you give me your Bliss names to see if we are related" but here is mine.

Abigail Bliss, born about 1770-1776 in Rhode Island and she married Newport Hall between 1795-1799 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. The couple lived in Rhode Island a short time and then moved to Plainfield, Connecticut. Abigail died February 1859 in Plainfield, CT and Newport Hall died between 1850-1860 in Plainfield, CT. The couple had two children, possibly more, they are:

Charlotte Hall born March 1812, Plainfield CT
Sarah Hall born about 1799 in Plainfield, CT

My cousin is married to a Skinner. I assume his dad told him the story. They told me about it when they asked me to research the family for them. His dad has since passed away. I found it interesting in that biography you told me about that Edward knew where his dad went and died. Maybe later in life he had gotten back in touch with them. (or he made it up so he didn't have to admit his dad deserted them.) I found a few Charles Skinners who were born in the right place (Vermont or NY) and about the right age, one in Michigan, and he even lives near a Bliss family, but he's got a son living next door to him too old to be his if it was the same person, unless it's really a step son or one he fathered before he actually left the first wife.

I don't know if this could be the Charles Skinner who is the father of Edward B. but the age, birthplace is a good fit and he is living near some Bliss families.

Looking for parents and siblings of Nathan P BLISS born 1812 in New York. His Civil War records say Genesee, NY. He supposedly left NY in abt 1827 and I first find him in LaPorte County, Indiana when he married Aberilla HAINES on 16 Apr 1843. Their Children: Marion Eliza; George W; Amanda Clarinda; Alice G; Thomas; James Joseph; Josephine Mary (twin of James); and Alta Jane. They moved to Benton County, Iowa in abt 1859, then to Antelope County, Nebraska in abt 1872. Nathan died 5 December 1886 in Antelope County.

It turns out that the original record of the 1622 baptism that the secondary literature attributes to Nathaniel Bliss is actually for Martha Bliss. While this confirms that Thomas Bliss of Rehoboth did have a daughter Martha, there are still great obstacles to proving that she was the Martha who became Nicholas1 Ide's wife. I am also actively searching for William Bliss, supposed husband of Preuda Emmons. You may find my Bliss / Ackley Family Tree of interest. In addition to having unique information on the children of Joseph Bliss, I am also treating Algernon Bliss as a brother, rather than a son, of Joseph Bliss. In addition, I am tracking down the William Bliss that is listed in the 1830 census for Guildford, Windham, Vermont as a possibility for our William Bliss. Generally, I would treat Preuda's last name of Emmons, not as a maiden name, but rather as a re-married name. The only reservation I have is given the name Preuda Emmons was put forth by an individual (Daisy and John L. Sullivan, # 19368, page 1771 Vol. II) who had done family research in the past.

Would you be the grandson of Merle Bliss of Galeton? If so, then we are first cousins once removed. I am Elwin's son.

Greetings: I am a descendent of William Bliss who was christened in Vermont in 1775 and married Preuda Emmins (from Scotland) in 1804 or 1805 and settled in North Central Pennsylvania, Tioga County. William does not appear to be a descendant of the the three Blisses who originally came from England to the States in the 1600's. William's parents may have come from England via Canada (Nova Scotia?). It appears to be a great mystery as the Aaron Bliss volumes can not locate his parents either. Thank you for this information. I had not found this bio before. Did your family also have the story that Edward Skinner's father had disappeared in the middle of the night, and he was so angry at him that he used the last name Bliss for a while? He is using the name Bliss in the 1880 in Colorado Springs Co.

There names are Charles Skinner born 1823 and died in 1888 in Butler Mo. Her name was Mary Bliss.This information came from the history of Montgomery county Kansas.It has a boigraphy of their son Edward B.Skinner,he was my Great-Grandfather.Hope this helps.

Edna Davis - born sometime between 1895-1900, married William Bliss. New York
My family has told me that she died after giving birth to her second son, Robert Bliss, somewhere around 1919 +/- 5 or so years
I can't find any information on her son, Robert, or her. I've searched record websites and obituaries and Newspaper websites, and I can't find an obituary for her anywhere.
I'm also not sure if Robert died as well, or if he lived. Either way, I can't find any death information on him, either.
