If you are still interested in Joseph Blower and Ann Wallett, contact me. Emmanuel was my great grandfather. Joseph, Ann, Emmanuel and Mary all lived in Fayette and Westmoreland Countys in Pennsylvania and are buried in Monongahela Cemetry.
Uncle Dan also lived in and around the Pittsburgh area. A branch of the family did move to Ohio.

Alfred Blower(s)

Im trying to find out what happened to my partners great grandfather, Alfred Blower(s). He was born Blowers, but his name seemed to change when he signed up for WW1 and then on Certificates for his children and his marriage. He married Edith Matilda Caston in 1920 (at the time of the marriage her surname was Pegg however) and they had 3 children, Edith Alice, Stanley Alfred and Grace Helen. Edith Matilda, his wife died in 1934 and Alfred is named on her Death Certificate. However i can find no trace of him after this. The children were placed into foster care and Grace was actually adopted.

If anyone knows anything about Alfred, i would be grateful if you got in touch. Alfreds daughter, Edith is still alive at the age of almost 90 and has asked me to find out what happened to her dad.

I hope someone knows something!

Sam

Those Wellbanks must be Wallbanks, quite a familiar name around that area. Nearby Tamworth had a shop called Wallbanks. Clearly the Blowers living with the Wallbanks were related. Were they the orphans on one of the miners who died in the pit disaster? Had their mother died earlier. Something to get you teeth into. Happy hunting. David

Hi again. You might find something interesting on the web: look up the Baddesley Colliery (or Pit) Disaster 1882 on google. There are Blowers mentioned there. Our ancestors were mostly coal miners. David

The Phoebe Blower you mention was that Phoebe Chetwynd I mentioned...her daughter Emma was my great great grandmother. She married William Grice who was born in West Brom in 1833. They had their first child Thomas in Wilnecote Warwicks in 1856 and then proceeded to have 9 (NINE) more until the last Mary Ann in 1873. William and Emma also had a tale to tell. Perhaps you could contact me privately, let me know if you are happy to do so. I will almost certainly be adding it to my ancestry site, given time. So it is actually possible that we are related a few generations back. David

Dear Cassy
It seems unlikely. Emma Blower and her ancestors came from the area to the west of Atherstone in Warwickshire ...Baddesley Ensor, Grendon and the like. Her mother was a Chetwynd, a long line of Warwickshire folk. Her father was Charles Blower, again from the Baddesley-Grendon area. Sorry to disappoint. These women are terrible when it colmes to keeping track on them. The Grices though did hail from Wednesbury. David

In reference to any photos pertaining to Blower lineage it would be nice if they were shared with the entire list of Blower researchers.

When you post a message on the Blower board (or any Rootsweb board) there is an option at the bottom to Attach a file.

It will not send the attachment in the email the list members receive, but it will upload it to the post on the board.

Those who are interested in viewing the image can visit the board, click on the link, and view the image.

It's a great option and one I'd encourage you to use.

Sherri Schaefer Bagby
Blower Admin

David, I could not open or see the photo that you say is here, but tomorrow a son (computer expert) will be here and will see what he can do. If he thinks that a photo can be sent through this area will do so; if not you could send me your email and I could send photos there. Have photo also of Caroline and William (born Ashby Parva). Caroline died 11 Feb 1926 in Bloomington, PA, and according to my father, her husband William died of a broken heart 31 Mar 1926. Odd that like Emma and William they expired so close to their spouse.
After her parents death my grandmother, Edith, along with her son (Robert, my father) moved to Akron, Ohio which is where I was born and raised. My husband and I now live in Blairsville, Georgia. If you are on Facebook I am there under the name Carolyn Grice. I was named Edith Carolyn after my grand and great grandmothers. Thanks ever.
Edith Carolyn Gardiner Schaaf

Well, well. We both have common ancestors in Caroline's parents Emma Blower and William Grice. The story goes that a guy called Arthur Payne first emigrated to the mining town of Morris Run in Pennsylvania but returned to England to court Caroline's sister Elizabeth Grice. He then took her back, married her and settled down in Glen Richey. I am not yet sure in which order or at exactly what time, but Caroline, her husband William Henry Smith and three of their eventual five kids then went out to Pennsylvania, as did William and Emma. Again the family tale is that William, already an old man (b 1833), ultimately said he did not want to die and be buried in the US, so returned to England. He died there in 1908 and sad to say Emma apparently collapsed and died at the graveside during the burial. She was interred in the same Wilnecote "Old" Cemetery some four days later. Caroline's kids plus descendents can all be found on Rootsweb, and no doubt the same goes for those of Elizabeth and Arthur Payne. They are my next job. For myself, I descend from William Grice, the brother who stayed at home. His son was my grandfather Alfred, and I am in turn the son of another Alfred, with one brother Brian. I am currently finding relatives, distant as they may be, all over the place. I am in Braintree, Essex UK. Where are you? Best regards David G

I have found some info, such as; her parents Charles Blower (abt 1802-1850) and Phoebe Chetwynd (1799-1856), her grandparents (Samuel Blower, Mary Collier) (Joseph Chetwynd, Elizabeth Hinks) names; and some great-grandparents (Richard Chetwynd, Ann Unknown), (Henery Hinks, Mary Unknown) Also that Emma had 10 children with most of those childrens names and most dates. I know that Emma died in Wilnecote in 1908.
Emma Blower Grice's child, Caroline, who died in Pennsylvania was my great grandmother. Added bonus, a distant cousin sent me a photo of Emma, from the time of her Pennsylvania visit.
We have new e address "rschaaf1@windstream.net"
Thanks, Edith

David,

Thanks for the message! Since I put this message on ancestry.com I have found many of the Blower's I was looking for. First I found the Oregon Blower's who last summer had a family reunion in Oregon last summer - I couldn't make it unfortunately. I then found the Blower family in England - there were from the Sommerset region. As a matter of fact I received your message and one from a cousin in England today. She is also a family history buff!

I notice your name is David Blower - by coincidence my younger brothers name. Do you mind if I ask where you are from?

Marilyn

Dave,

Thank you for the information. I have a very bad photo copy of the family bible page listing the birthdates of the Oregon family. It has a birthdate for Joseph as Feb. 5, 1842 which would match with the details you sent me. However the birth date that I have for his wife Anna is April 23, 1844. This would make her about 17 in the in the 1861 C depending on when it was taken. As I am just getting into this family research I still have a lot of research material to gather, like a map of England so I can find all these area's. Wish I had started this about 5 years ago when in Europe on holiday's. Well maybe I'll have to make another trip! Again thanks for the help and should you in your travels find anything else I would love to hear about it.

Marilyn Thodt
m.thodt@yahoo.com
P.S.
Marilyn,
I looked in 1861 C's for England and Wales. Found a Anna M. SIMS Dist. 2# Bruton, Somerset, England. age 15, Stoneystoke, Somerset, England. Living with her mother or sister Ann age 30, Feachecombe, Somerset, England. May be your Anna M. SIMS???
Then I looked for a Joseph BLOWER and found one in Puriton, Somerset, England age 18, Puriton, Somerset, England. Father was John age 54, Bawdrip, Somerset, England. Mother was Hannah age 33, Westonroyland, Somerset, England.
Never found Joseph or Anna in the 1870 C's or the 1880 C's. Most likely they were traveling and never got picked up in the Census. 1900 C's puts them in Oregon. They say they have been married 31y's which makes that 1869. Yet in the 1920 C's Joseph lists he came to US. in 1869 and Anna lists she came in 1870. He is only one NA. In 1910 C's they both list they came in 1869 and he is only one NA.
1900 C's Toledo Twp., Lincoln Co., OR.
1910 C's Toledo Twp., Lincoln Co., OR.
1920 C's Pacific Twp., Lincoln Co., OR.
My BLOWER line comes from Wales vise England.
Hope some of this helps and is your relatives
Dave PENDRY in AZ. dpendry@powerc.net

I am trying to locate my Blower line in Oregon. Joseph & Anna arrived about 1869 from England. Had 11 Children - Nancy 1870 - Thomas 1871 - Kate 1872 - Emma 1874 - Joseph 1876 - John Zebedee 1878 (my grandfather) - Mary Jane 1880 - Zebedee 1882 - Cecil 1883 - Winnie (or Minnie) 1885 - Nellie 1887. My grandfather moved to Vancouver Island in B.C. after meeting my grandmother. He passed on in 1946 so I never met my grandparents.
Hey Ryan,

This is a bit late but just started research my family. What would you like to know? I can tell you little at this point as I'm just starting out. I live in Terrace, B.C. Canada. My maiden name was Blower. My father was born in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. His father I'm still trying to find out where he was born. It was either in Ohio or most likely Oregon. It was in Oregon that the family settled. Joseph and Anna (Sims) Blower arrived in the US from England about 1869. They had 11 children. To my knowlege my grandfather John Zebedee Blower was the only one to come north to Canada.

Marilyn

If you have a picture of Thomas and Glady's that you are able to email to me that would be great as I am eventually going to put all this information into a scrapbook.

My email is tnjs@sympatico.ca

Jenn

Hi Jenn,
I am afraid I don't have much - What my tree says is that Mark Blower was born before 1855 and died May 1932. He married Mary Hogan, daughter of Dennis Hogan and Jane. Her birthday was March 31 (same as mine!), 1854 - born in Ireland. She died before Jan. 1 1932. I am afraid that's about all I know. I do have a few pictures, but none that go that far back - they basically start with my great-grandparents, Thomas Blower and Gladys Hughston.

In my recent bout of research earlier this year I came across some information on Mary Hogan, some of it conflicting. I believe I added it (along with the conflicting notes/sources) to the GEDCOM I emailed you last night. For some reason she appears to be an elusive person to get information on. I think one record had her as Irish, another as Canadian, but I did (I think) manage to get her parents' names.

If anyone has any old Blower family photos, I would also love a copy! I am actually in the midst of scanning in my grandmother's photo album and would be happy to share the Blower photos with relatives once I'm done.

Mike.
I would love to be able to find out more information on Thomas Blower and Emily Gerling but I don't think anyone has been able to do that yet. Any information you have on Mary Jane Hogan would be great. Do you have any old pics of the Blowers? My email addy is tnjs@sympatico.ca

Thanks
Jenn

Hi Jenn,
Yes, looks like we are related. Your great-grandfather, Sydney appears to be brothers with my great-grandfather, Thomas, according to the family tree that I have. Thanks for getting in touch with me! Let me know what information you are looking for & I will see if I have anything.

Port Credit Blowers

Just an FYI, I've been on-again off-again with putting up a web page for the Blower family of Port Credit, Ontario, Canada, and have finally turned the switch on and left it.

It's a blog format and will contain some resources for folks trying to do research on that branch of the family. I'm still working on paring out living folks from my GEDCOM, but it will be provided once that's done. There are also transcripts from a few of the Schooner Days articles where the Blower and Block families were featured, as well as some Obituaries I've found, and gravestone photos from the Clarkson Cemetery.

Hopefully this information can be of benefit to you. Again, this website provides information relevant mostly for decendants of Thomas Blower and Emily Gerling, and Sarah Blower and Abraham Block who arrived in Port Credit, Ontario, Canada in the 1830's.

Mike
blower@kerris.com
www.kerris.com/blower
