Hello,

The John Bluett(b:1768)that you mentioned is my G-G-G-Grandfather. He and Anne Warne had a son John Bluett(b:1803) and he married Honoura Rodda. Their son was Joseph Thomas Bluett(b:1847) and he married Elizabeth Joyce Abernathy. Their youngest daughter was Daisy Bluett, my grandmother. She married Louis McElvarr. They had 5 children and my dad was the youngest.
Joseph & Elizabeth lived in New York, Cenral PA early on and later moved to Phila Area and died here.I personally dodnt know any of them but do know some family stories.
As far as I can tell it was Joseph's brother that left PA and moved west. They settled in Iowa, Nebraska, Veveda,& Calif.
Hope this answers some questions.

Steve

I would suggest that you contact Michael K. Blewett (mkblewett@bellsouth.net) as he is somewhat of a Blewett authority. He has been helpful to me in the past.

I am also looking for information on a Mary Elizabeth Blewett in Wise County, Decatur, Texas. My Mary Elizabeth was born in 1835 in Georgia to James D. and Rachel Whaley. She married a MR. ANDREWS and had 3 sons (James Rollen, George Allen and John Harris); it is believed that MR. ANDREWS died in the Civil War. She married 2nd to James Love Blewett in 1869; he died in 1879. She had 5 more children with James Blewett. Mary Elizabeth Whaley Andrews Blewett was buried in Flat Rock Cemetery near Decatur, Wise County, Texas 1913. She is buried next to her daughter Sallie Williams.

Thanks, Kathie Sarchet

Rev. James Willington Bluett b. 1839 PA, d. 1891 WA

The Cheney Sentinel, Cheney, Spokane county, Washington, Feb. 20, 1891.

The death of James Willngton Bluett occurred in this city Feb. 15, 1891, aged 52 years and 6 months. Mr. Bluett was born in Pennsylvania, Aug. 19, 1839, in which state he resided until 1852, coming to the Pacific coast in that year. He was converted to the Christian religion and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church at the early age of fourteen years and was admitted to the ministry in the church in 1871. The earlier years of his ministerial labors were spent in California, and in 1882 he came to Washington. The deceased served the Methodist church of this city two years, afterward being stationed at Colfax, North Yakima and Rosalia, returning to Cheney in 1889, his last appointment to effective work. At the session of the conference in 1890, he asked for and received a superannuated relation, but in a few short months he heard the summons,"it is enough, come up higher." Mr. Bluett was a man of more than ordinary pulpit ability, and in his death the church suffers a severe loss. A wife and seven children are left to mourn his death.

The funeral was held from the M. E. church Tuesday morning, after which the remains were conveyed to Spokane Falls for interment.

I'm not related

I'm researching from James J. McElvarr who was my grandfather. He was born in 1916. His father was John J. born April 15 1889 and was Daisy's brother? I did find a John J. McElvarr born in around 1862 in Philadelphia, Daisy and John's father? His wife's name was Elizabeth and had4 children; Louis, Marie, John J, Aloysius.

If you look up 1910 Census Miracode Index you find that family. There is also a record in the 1910 Federal Census but you have to know what page:
Enumeration: 0815
Page 42
Then image pages number 8 & 9.

I lose track after this. It looks like John J. Sr.'s father was born in Ireland or England, hard to tell from census file.

I am assuming with a name like McElvarr chances are we are all related.

bluett family in PA and CA

My great grandfather, James Wellington Bluett was born in Pennsylvania in 1830-1840 and came to California as a Methodist Minister. He then served in the State of Washington from 1882 to 1891 where he passed away. His wife's name was Martha Jones from Iowa.
I do not have any information about where he lived in California. But, I will soon check census info and other sources. I do not know if he is of Cornish heritage. I know there are a fair number of Bluett's in Northern California and some are related to my family. James had a total of nine children, some born in CA. and some in Washington.
Just thought I would give you this info. I live between Los Angeles and San Diego and we are fortunate to have many resources in our area. I can't wait to get out and see what more I can find on the Bluett's.
If you think there may be any possible links, please e-mail me. Thanks.
