Martin Louis Blum 1860 Ohio

My great grandfather was Earl B. Blum born in Radcliff, IA. I believe his father was Martin Louis Blum born around 1860 in Ohio. I can't find any information on Martin, specifically who his parents were. My grandfather Wayne Blum died in 1966 so tracing our name back has been quite difficult. Thanks for any and all help!

I cold-called their home and her husband remembered my grandfather, his Uncle Engy. Algisa was so kind to me and gave me Schons family tree info and shared photos of her family.

Please respond.

Hi,
My grandfather was Fred Hartmann. I never knew him because he died before I was born. Fred remarried to my grandmother, Mabel Arzona Ferguson, and had two daughters, one of whom is my mother, Shirley. I just recently discovered the fact of Fred's first wife and children. My mother doesn't know anything about Fred's birth family, or his marriage to Leah Blum, as he did not talk about them. I would like to know why he left his first wife and family, and why he discontinued any contact with his birth family.
Thank you for any help you can give me.
Pam Setter

I came across a large photo album in a junk store in Dallas. It is very nice with a pale green fabric cover with metal detailing and a metal latch. It is on a matching stand and full of very old photos. I took a few pics of the outside of the album and of a few of the photos.

There are photos labled as: "Grandpa George Blum-'Mother's father"; "Carl Blum-'Cousin"; "Grandma Blum"; Tillie Schallen"; "Aunt Zetta Siebig".

The shop owners travel all over the US collecting stuff for their shop so I have no idea where the album originated.

If you would like to see the potos I took or if you think this may be your family album, let me know. I can send you the pics that I took and give you the information about where the shop is located.

~Lisa Webb Redman

My great grandmother is said to have been Rose or Catherine Blum. She may have been born in Germany some time around 1855. She married William Kuehn from Durmersheim some time around 1883 in the USA. She had two children born in St. Louis, MO, and then two children born in Chicago after 1889. She died in Chicago in 1896 and was said to have been buried in Oakwoods Cemetery. The cemetery has been unable to find a record of her burial. I would love to reconnect with her family and learn anything about her.

A great great grandson of Emanuel Blum has shared information that would indicate that Emanuel and Salome immigrated with two children, Marie Madeline and (according to the ships manifest) a daughter named Barbara. I know they had a daughter named Barbara born in 1850 in Wisconsin.
Does anyone know of another child - perhaps one of those that died in infancy. Salome's obit lists Marie Madeline as the oldest LIVING daughter. Any insights into this mystery.

Rabbi Abraham Blum (1843 - 1921) -- First Jewish Police Chaplain in New York City

Ancestry.com was instrumental in locating the descendants of Rabbi Abraham Blum, the first Jewish Chaplain of the New York City Police Department, and his descendants attended an event held last week by the Shomrim Society of the New York City Police Department commemorating 100-years of Jewish Chaplaincy in New York.

A year ago, Detective Paul Daniel of the NYC Police Department Shomrim Society set about finding Rabbi Blum's descendants. The rabbi and his wife, Hannah HENRIQUEZ, had two sons, Jacob and Ralph, but Det. Daniel made little progress finding living descendants until he check Ancestry.com. There he found Abraham Blum in my family tree. Abraham Blum had been born in Quatzenheim, Alsace, France, and had emigrated to the United States in 1866 with my great-grandfather, Gustave Blum.

I put Det. Daniel in touch with Abraham Blum's only grandson Ralph H. Blum Jr. who had once contacted me also because the posting I had made to Ancestry.com.

Ralph H. Blum Jr. attended the ceremony last week to receive a citation honoring his grandfather and a replica of the Chaplain badge worn by Abraham bearing a Star of David.

Rabbi Blum had a peripatetic career that included leading congregations in Dayton Ohio, Augusta Georgia, Galveston Texas, and Los Angeles before his arrival in New York City where he administered to the needs of Jewish patients and inmates in local hospitals and asylums before becoming a Police Chaplain in 1911.

I hope that I can connect with you because I am helping two brothers in Israel discover the American story of their great-great-grandfather, Asher Zelig Blum, who apparently had two wives. He first appeared in Jerusalem in September 1879 with his wife and 5 children born in New York and Cincinnati. When he returned to the U.S., he had a clothing and dry good store in Charleston, South Carolina. He returned in Jerusalem in 1891. He may have made more visits. During this stay, two of his daughters married and remained in Palestine. He returned in 1895 with a second wife and a new family first moving to Charleston and, between 1895-97,to Chicago where he is recorded as being a manufacturer of overalls.
Shirley

Relationship clarification needed on Robert Jacob Nickey, Louise Wilhelmina Blum, & Florence Lane

BACKGROUND: During the 1900 U.S. Federal Census Robert Jacob Nickey lived in York, York County, Pennsylvania. The York County Archives show the application and marriage dates of Robert to Louise Wilhelmina Blum as 23 Nov. 1901 and 24 Nov. 1901. Unless I got several Robert’s mixed up, his World War I and II Draft Cards shows he was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania and later moved to Ohio before 9 Dec. 1918. Robert was born about Dec. 1882 to Jacob M. and Catherine (Glapater/Kenepeter) Nickey. I also have sources that show the questionable Robert above married a Florence E. Lane in 1905.

PROBLEM: I have inadequate information to identify which of many Louise Blum’s is his wife. Who are her parents? What was the location of her berth and/or death? What are her birth and death dates?

PROBLEM: Am I connecting two different Robert Jacob Nickey’s? If I’m not, did Robert and Louise get divorce or did she die before his second marriage?

Robert is my second cousin twice removed. I have currently identified the existents of 1,184 surname Nickey’s and spouses. My work is far from complete, but I’m willing to share everything I have. Due to my age I’m eager to locate individuals that will possibly continue and share this information.

The very restrictive privacy laws in Pennsylvania makes it very difficult for non-family members to get primary information on individuals, especially if they live out of the area. Any information/help on these problems would be greatly appreciated, Bradley (Brad) Baer Nickey.
There are Blum's buried in Cincinnati at St Joseph new cemetery (over 100 yr old & Irish) (St Jos. old is German and across the road) The artist Robert Blum is buried at Spring Grove in Cincinnati. Are any of your Blum's related to Henry Clay Blum or the Doran, McGrath, Powers, Kircher or Koop families? Henry Clay fell under the wheels of train on his way home from work and was killed in 1916.

I am a Blum from Covington and family tradition also says we were related to the artist...may be wishful thinking?? There was a Mary Blum maiden name married Koeffler not sure of spelling who moved to Wisconsin maybe in the 30's....Covington and Cincinnati Blum's included Doran, Powers, McGrath, Kircher. Henry Clay Blum my great grandfather would have lived close and been only a few years older than the Artist. Might have been cousins but don't have a link.

Hi Joe, I read what you wrote regarding your Blum's coming from Marckolsheim, Alsace, France in the 1870's and thought we should stay in contact. Our families may intersect arounnd the early 1800's with my Isaac Blum who was also from Alsace and immigrated to California in the 1850's. I don't have my research in front of me at the moment to give you exact dates, but want to make sure we keep open lines until I can get back to my books. ---Lori Huber

Blum Family in Altschweir/Buhlertal/Kappelwindeck, Germany

I am searching for Blum ancestors from the Altschweir/Buhteral/Kappelwindeck area (near Buhl) in southwestern (Black Forest area)of Germany. My great-grandmother Louisa Hoelle (Holl, Hohle) immgrated to the US from Kappelwindeck in 1880. Her mother's maiden name was Regina Blum (married to Gregorius Hoelle). The Blums were Catholic. Please contact me at pcj7@comcast.net.

Thanks, Pat Jones
