Hi. I just read your posting and you've helped me out immensely!
I'm descended from Mary Rutherford Faa, who used to tell stories to my GG grandfather of being a Gypsy Queen. I couldn't find her... until I read your post and realised she was one of the children of Jethart Jock and Esther Faa Blythe.
Thank you so much!
Do you have any more information on this part of the family?
Stephanie.
Not finding him in 1841 at least in Cumberland, they could be anywhere. To get back father you need the wife Jane's maiden name to get the correct marriage. You could get Martha's birth cert b 1855 registered Carlisle, or Thomas b 1857 registered Carlisle also. Once you have the the mother's maiden name you can look for the marriage. As Carlisle is close to Scotland Greta Green might be an option as I am not seeing a marriage 1852-1855 in the Carlisle area. He would not be married before his apprenticeship was over as it was not allowed and you would loose your livelyhood as a skilled worker.

After you have the wife's name then the marriage that should give you James' father's name and occupation. Otherwise there are baptisms in Kirklinton Cumberland parish church of a James Blythe baptised 15 May 1836 s/o Thomas and Martha Blythe along with several siblings so they are a range of ages. The fact that there is a Martha in the family shows this is probably the family you are looking for.

Janis

Jessie R Blythe 1857-1909

He was my great grandfather. His birth and death dates are confirmed by his Woodmen of the World headstone (New Chapel Cemetery, Itawamba County, MS). Married to Cornelia Livingston in 1885(confirmed, also Itawamba County, MS).

Jesse's grandson, my father, Rex Blythe, died in January of 2010. My dad and I had been trying for years to figure out the Jesse mystery. If you have any information about my Jesse, please share it with me. I am the last of his line.

One note of interest: people in my family have talked about a family bible, in German, in which my Jesse's name appears inside the front cover (apparently a birth record of several in his family). If you perhaps know the whereabouts of this bible, it could be the solution my family has been looking for.

Also: it's been said in my family that Jesse went to Texas and came back to Mississippi. Obviously, he was back in Itawamba County, MS in 1885 in time to marry my ggrandmother, Cornelia Livingston. Not sure if this will help.

To any and all who might be of help, THANK YOU.

Hi, I responded to your message on genforum also. I'm so excited to hear from you. I'm hoping that Minnie left some type of "trail" to follow on Nancy & Sidon Blythe. I actually descend from Sidon and his 2nd wife, Mary. Their son, Sam, was my dad's father. My dad did have a close relationship though with George Blythe. In fact, his "uncle George" bought him his first car, which was from my dad's other uncle, Claud's, car dealership. Even though George was a half-brother to my grandfather's kids, they had a good relationship. I've been trying for almost 10 years to find any background info on Sidon and Nancy, but always hit the proverbial brick wall. If you find any information, please contact me. I have saved your email address and phone # (thanks), but it's already too late to call you. Will try tomorrow.
Sandy
P S I live in Vegas now.

Hi Jack:
I've just read your posting. I've been doing research on my HOGUET Family Tree - my mother's maiden name. My ggg Grandfather was Francis A. Hoguet (1771-1833) who married Mary Collins. They had six children: Francis (my kin), Josephine, Louis A., Adelaide, Lucien (I think, your kin), and Mary. Lucien married Emily (and Margaret Stagner) - not sure why or when. I think, with Emily, there were four children: Mary J., Jennie T., Emily and Annie. MARY J. married Edward Force Blythe.

Margaret Stagner (1839-1906) had a son, Lucien (1880-1913) who married Edna Garland Phillips. - Is this where - the one son Lucien Hoguet Blythe II comes in? Who went to Univ. of PA.

Ironically, I live five minutes away from the University of Pennsylvania. My father (Henry Hublitz) attended the University of PA - as did my son.

I'm not sure if you have found an appropriate person for your documents.

Go to "Collaborate" on Ancestry.com and look at "Becca's comments. She is looking for the Blythe family history. This may be a great source for you and she. Good luck.
Rosalie
Phila., PA

Hi Becca:
I've been doing research on the HOGUET Family Tree for some time. It is like a huge puzzle. I may have some information for you. My mother's maiden name was Hoguet. I've been emailing thru Ancestry.com to a distant relative in LA. I live in Philadelphia. Let me share what I know, and see if this helps.

I was born and raised, and still live in center city Philadelphia. I know residence and cemetary locations.

There seems to be two locations for the Hoguet Family - one Philadelphia area and the second in Bristol, Bucks Co., PA which is essentially a suburb of Philadelphia up Rt. 95.

My GGG Grandfather was Francis A. Hoguet (1771-1833) who married Mary Collins. They had six children: Francis (my direct kin), Josephine, Louis A., Adelaide, Lucien (your kin, I think), and Mary.

Lucien married Emily, then he married Margaret Stagner (1839-1906). They had Mary J. (I think, your kin), Jennie T, Emily and Annie. MARY J. married Edward Force Blythe (1850-1907). When Lucien (the father) married Margaret Stagner, they had a son, Lucien (1880-1913).

I'm not sure who died - or who divorced with these two wives.

I did do some research and I know that Lucien had substantial property in Chester County - may even been a lawyer. You can either Ancestry or Google details to confirm.

Again, this is all a very big puzzle. Good luck.
Rosalie

These Henderson Co., NC. Blythe's were in this area before 1804. They appear to have been in Washington and Sullivan Co., TN at the time of the Revolution, and appear to have been related to the Blythe's who lived near Traveler Rest, SC. Habersham Co, Georgia Blythe's appear also to have descended from this group.
Some remained in the Henderson Co., Area, but other others did not. Around 1804, Thomas Blythe moved to Bedford Co,; TN. In 1817, Sion Blythe, a Baptist Minister, moved to St. Clair Co., AL. He later went on to Texas and died shortly after. Sally Blythe, a widow, and two or three of her four sons, probably at the same time, moved to the same area of Alabama as Sion. (Note: Sally and Sion's wife had the same first name). Two of these three sons, Ricketts and William lived to an old age in the Jefferson and St Clair Co. Alabama Area, but the third son, James, before 1840 went on to Sunflower Co., MS and then to Hardin Co., TX. Robert a son of Sion also lived to an old age in St. Clair Co., AL
All the attempts I have seen to connect these Blythe's with earlier Blythe Families has in my opinion been pure speculation. I can not even determine who the ancestor of all the Henderson Co., Blythe's was.
Blythe is a much more common name in Great Britain than most people in the United States realize. There may have been several or many immigrates with this name from there to the United States. They may have been Scotch-Irish, Scotch, or English, and possibly Gypsies. There was a lot of Scotch-Irish immigrates who lived in same area where the Henderson Co., Blythe's lived. I know of no Gypsies named Blythe who immigrated to the United States.
Scottish Gypsy Blythe's

I am wondering something. Does anyone know if any of the Blythe's of Scotland were transported to the American Colonies pre 1800's era? If so I'd like to know what their names were and when and where they were transported to if known.

I ask because I am researching a piece of Romany history that involves the Scottish Gypsy Bailey and Campbell family's who were transported to the American Colonies and I have to wonder of the Blythe and Faa family's were also transported during this anti Gypsy era as well.

I am also wondering if any of the Blythe's have DNA tested yet? I am the Admin of the Romany DNA project and to date the Blythe's have not joined us in this genetic study
The Scottish Bailey and Campbell descendants in the USA have joined the project, both were found carrying Y Haplo Group H1a which is Asian Indian in origin.

I would like to invite all the Scottish Romanies to join us in the Romany DNA project.
I have an interesting Rutherford connection in Colonial Virginia 1700's era that I would like to explore one day.
For unknown reasons one of my British Romany Lock's was taken in and raised by Robert Rutherford, whom I now believe was a member of the Scottish Romany clan.
Robert Rutherford became the legal guardian of Richard Lock who was actually Richard Lock III.

At the time this event made no sense to me because Richard Lock had multiple brothers who were of age who were old enough to take in their youngest brother, but the young boy went to be raised by Robert Rutherford, a close family friend.
Colonial Virginia is of great interest to the Scottish and British Romanies in the fact that Colonial Virginia is exactly where many of the Romany convicts were transported to between the 1670's to 1700's era.

Lock, Ingram, Bailey, Campbell, Faa are among some of the Scottish and British Romanies who were forcefully transported to Colonial Virginia, so I have to wonder if the Blythe's among others were also transported during this time period?

If you are a Scottish Romany of any surname, please feel free to contact me.

Donald Locke
lockeroots@comcast.net

Thanks for the info. Unfortunetly I know the line I'm looking for was in England. John Charles was the one to imigrate to the US. We have a cousin of his that come over a few years earlier, I think most of their decendents are now in the Ohio region. But our group stayed pretty local to eachother. One of John and Marry's kids I beleive is the one that took us out to California, but I don't think any of my line went south of Ohio.

Thanks again
Becca

Hi Grace. I don't know if this is help... because I need help. There is an Elizabeth Blythe b. 1775 - head of family - in the 1850 Coffee Co., TN census. With her is Amiah(?) Blythe 45. Very close by is my ggg-gf, James Willis Burks. James father, Willis Burks, married Jane Blythe b. 1798 NC. Willis' brother, Smith Burks married who I believe is Jane's sister, Rutha Blythe b. 1801 NC. These three (James Willis, Willis and Smith Burks) families moved to Webster Co., MO between 1850-1855. And in the 1870 Webster Co., MO census is an Ann Blythe (63) b. ca. 1807 NC. Ann is living with a Felkner family. In the 1850 Coffee Co., census, there is a Felkner family living next door to Elizabeth Blythe.

He married Nancy Fields, whose father was Richard, Jr. Richard was a Cherokee chief (or war chief) who tried to settle the Cherokee in TX, but he was murdered there. William and Nancy had a son William, my great-great-grandfather. He married Fannie Hammontree, and on of their children was Sarah Blythe, my great-great-grandmother, who married Burrell Blevins. -Linda

My grandfather (Samuel) and his siblings; Rilla, Randolph, Claude, & Melvin all grew up in the Denison/Sherman areas.
So if you could be a little more specific about who's sons and grandsons moved to this area I'd greatly appreciate it.
Another Blythe researcher

Steve,
I'm John Blythe III or 4!! Stopped counting. I'm stationed in Germany and just started this today. All my Blythe family live in Rhode Island in the Newport area. I think my Great GrandFather was John Blythe from Fall River.

John
