I just joined Ancestry yesterday so I don't know what I am doing BUT Letha Bobbitt(as we said it) was my grandfather. Roy was her closest brother. Carrie Bobbitt lived with her and her sister Leona, switching off from time to time.As a child I knew most of the siblings. I have pictures and stories. Letha's daughter Martha, my mom just passed away in August. I would be interested in hearing our connection. I haven't figured that out on the website yet! caroline

Bobbitt's of Warren County, North Carolina

Hello,

I am currently researching two different Bobbitt Families of North Carolina. My interest in these two family comes from members both marrying two Harris sisters.

The first Bobbitt I am interested in was Randolph Bobbitt. He married Elizabeth Harris, presumably in Warren County North Carolina. Information I have been able to find on Randolph has been very varied and unreliable.

Most says that he was the son of a John Richard Bobbitt and an Amy, some say she was Amy Alston, some say Amy Shearin, some say she was Amy Shearin Alston.

Most say that Randolph was born 1755 in North Carolina..the county is the only thing that differs, most say he was born in Granville co but I have also seen Edgecombe County.

Supposedly Randolph and Elizabeth had the following children:

Frederick Harris Bobbitt
John Bobbitt
Lewis Bobbitt
Nancy Bobbitt
Rebecca Bobbitt
William Bobbitt

I have also seen sources that Randolph and Elizabeth moved to Franklin County Tennessee while other sources state that both died in Warren Co. NC. Supposedly Randolph died around 1804..that appears to be consistent in all the information. Elizabeth was supposedly born on Jan 25, 1860 in Granville County NC, and died on Dec 30, 1850 in either Franklin Co. Tenn or Warren Co. NC.

The other Bobbitt Family I am interested in is the family of John Bobbitt

John Bobbitt was supposedly born around 1763 in Granville co. NC. He supposedly the son of Miles Bobbitt and Mary Martha Powell.

John Bobbitt married Patience Harris in Warren Co. North Carolina on Jan 16, 1789.

John Bobbitt supposedly died in 1837 in Warren Co. NC

Patience was born about 1765 in Old Bute Co. North Carolina

and apparently died in 1854 in Warren Co. NC.

John and Patience had the following children:

Rachel Edgerton Bobbitt b. about 1789
Frances Ann Bobbitt b. about 1790
John Bobbitt b. about 1792
Charles Harris Bobbitt b. 1797, d. 1865 Halifax Co. NC.
Winifred Bobbitt b. about 1800
Nancy Bobbitt b about 1811

As you can see, all that I have is unverified.

I would appreciate any additional information, including the children.

I would believe anything about Rebecca....the Bobbitt Family genealogists I believe had her as Lewis then Shaver....I have been looking for over 10 years. She is my second great grandmother on my mother's side of the family. Thomas Jefferson Bobbitt is my great grandfather--his daughter Margaret Bobbitt was my grandmother. My research with family indicates that Wiley and Rebecca had two children....Thomas Jefferson and Ciscero born 1857. Must have been twins. Would love to exchange info with you.

I believe that the Shaver name was the result of a former marriage. My thinking (I've read somewhere) that Rebecca was the sister of Wiley J's first wife Mary Ann Lewis that he married in 1849 according to the documents. I believe that an error occurred either in recording or transcribing the marriage documents and that the actual marriage took place in 1839. See the birth dates of their children. Wiley J and Mary Ann were my paternal great great grandparents. Also Wiley J and Rebecca had another child named Thomas Jefferson b. 1857.

I am looking for the cemetery where my great-gandparents are buried. On his death cert. it has that he was buried in a Bobbitt Cemetery, but the only one I know of (Bobbitt-Forbes) they aren't buried there. He died in August 1918 and she died in Dec. 1911. Does anyone know of another Bobbitt Cemetery, especially if it has become lost? They lived and died in Cheatham County, TN. He was born about 1855 and Abby was born in 1859. JP

Dear Keith,

My interest in the Bobbitt family is to seek info on the children of Charity Bobbitt, who married Benjamin Johnson on 29 Jan 1781 in Granville Co. NC. I am ever-so-slowly building a "DNA Johnson file" with info from the persons in my matching DNA Johnson group. One of the persons in my group descends from a James Johnson (1781--1842) who was married to Nancy Howard (1780-1842). His unproven info is that Benjamin Johnson & Charity Bobbitt were parents of James, (1781-1842). I believe Charity is the d/o a William Bobbitt & Martha Turner. However, I have not researched Charity's parents in depth. I am always willing to exc. info to benefit each researcher. Thank you for your reply to my post.
Sincerely,
Judy Johnson Erickson, TX
(jmje36@embarqmail.com)

Source: MKHGenealogy.com
the official Sturdivant Family Genealogy web site

John Sturdivant and Jane Hallom had only 5 sons, no daughters

Conclusion: Joanna Sturdivant who John W. Bobbitt has in his book as the daughter of John Sturdivant and Sarah Hallom is a legend, a fable, a myth or story written by false genealogists in the 1900's. The author John W. Bobbitt did not find any documentation proving Joanna Sturdivant married William Bobbitt from Wales and states so in his book.

Source: 1500's to 1900's All Bobbitt and Variations National Burial Index England and Wales

There are Bobbitt spelled in variations in Cambridgeshire, Cardiff, Dorset, Essex, Kent, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Norfolk, Salop or Shropshire, Somerset, Suffolk, Warwickshire, and Yorkshire but there is no Bobbitt family, only a Bobith family buried in Wales in the 1500's to 1700's, but there are Bobbitts buried in Wales in the late 1800's to 1900's.

Conclusion: The 1673 land grant in Virginia William Bobbitt is not the William Bobbitt from Wales whose parents were buried in Wales and married Joanna Sturdivant.

So, where does this leave us?

w24709 Isham Drury Bobbitt [Bobbett] Sr Morgan County Illinois Pension dated 3rd day of September 1832, quote:

"He has a record of his age in his possesion, which was made by his father in the family Bible, and the same Bible is owned & possessed by the deponent."

Note: This is where the information came from in the

1860 Bible of William W. Bobbitt and his father Isham Drury Bobbitt Junior, Putnam County, Illinois,

with one particular page with old glue and paper age tested from the 1700's with William Bobbett who left Felixstowe, Suffolk County, England in late 1673, one of the 3 passengers:
William Bobbett
John Skinner
Abraham Estes
aboard the ship Martha and ship master Abraham Wheelock traveling at a dangerous time of year that Wheelock took out a Will and arriving in Jan 1674 in City Point, Charles City, Virginia,

and William Bobbett who lived on his 1673 Virginia land grant land adjacent or next door to Francis Whittington,
and in Feb 1674 married Francis Whittington's daughter Elizabeth Whittington.

The 1860 Bible has the wife and children of William Bobbett.

My father inherited it from the family. It was from ADA OKLAHOMA. Apparently he was shot in the back.

My mother researched this and found information on cowboys that were killing indians that Sheriff bobbitt arrested. Some believed they took their revenge upon him.

Interesting information there. I just wanted to know if anybody knows if there was any indian bobbitt family or any indian heritage of the body family.

I can scan that letter and attatch it some time if you guys would like me too.

Nancy Bobbitt Randall

I am a decendant of Nancy Bobbitt Randall. She was born in Kentucky to William and Permelia (Gragg) Bobbitt. She died in Missouri in 1867. She was married to John Randall; he was killed by Bushwhackers in Pettis County Missouri in 1863. She later married George Arnold, but she died within a year. She and John Randall had five children: Permelia, George, Mary, Sarah and John. Permelia was my great-great grandmother. I know what happened to George and Mary, but I don't know what happened to Sarah or John. I'm very interested in this family line and would love to hear from anyone who knows anything about it.

End of 2009 Review

We are approaching year's end 2009. It's time to review what we know about Bobbitt Family Genealogy.

DNA testing is now needed to verify Paper Trails.

Many Bobbitt genealogists have false Paper Trails.

We can not 'adopt' other people's Paper Trails. If you have adopted another person's Paper Trail, in all likelihood, your trail is false.

If you have found all or part of your family in John W. Bobbitt's book "Bobbitt", it doesn't mean you are a member of that line. It simply means you have found all or part of your family written in a book. John's book lists more than one line.

You can not substitute William Bobbitt from Suffolk for William Bobbitt of Wales. Won't work.

We have found several Bobbitt immigrant ancestors. Which one is yours?

John Bobbitt, Germany, Born 1850, Living in Columbus, Ohio in 1880 Census

Freakk Bobbit, Germany, Born 1813, Living in Franklin, Ohio in 1850 Census

Albert Bobbett, Germany, Ship arrival date 27 October 1906

Barbara Bobbit, Germany, Widowed in 1880, New Albany, Indiana

Louisa M. Bobbet, Germany, Born 1862, Deer Park, Maryland, Husband's name Henry.

E.P. Bobbitt, Ship arrival 07 Jul 1901 from Rio de Janerio in New York.

Dorothy Bobbit, Born in Germany 1814, Residence Franklin, Ohio 1850 Census.

Four immigrants from England found by Marsha Berry...

William Bobbett - Marsha's immigrant ancestor.

William Bobett - indentured April 8, 1674.

James Bobitt - indentured April 1701.

James Bobbitt - indentured May 1706.

If you never have a DNA test, you may never know your true line.

The family home is still standing in the present day rock quarry that is owned by Hanson Quarries. Any information you would like to share would be greatly appreciated.
