I there, my fathers last name is Bocanegra as well. And his family were born in Peru. For some reason his great,great,great grandfather had to change their last name to "rios", but originally its bocanegra. He always tells me that bocanegra comes from Italian descent. And that someimmigrated to Peru. Hope this helped!

Hi: I traced my GGGgrandmother Salome Bocanegra on my mothers side. She was born Jan 12, 1818 in Murcia Spain. She married Jose Martinez Nov 4, 1837 in Silao Guanajuato MX.

Their children were Francisco b. Sep 6, 1838, Andrea b Jul 14, 1840, Rosa b, Jan 10, 1842, Ines b. Aug 5, 1844, Maria b. Aug 14, 1846, Domingo b. Feb 6, 1848.

Most of my relatives can be traced to Silao. My GGgranparents migrated to TX around 1914.

Garcia is my married name.

Hi, this Cheryl Bocanegra Amor from Davao City Philippines. I read the thread and I recognize the family of Nancy Bocanegra Pascua. I went to school with your siblings at the Assumption Schoolof Davao. Infact, your sister Diane was a batchmate and had been a classmate of mine. We knew we were somehow related but did not dwell on it.
My mother is Zenaida Taboada Bocanegra who was born in Toledo City in Cebu Province. Her father was Fabian Bocanegra, whose roots we could not trace but all we know was he was from Negros. He ran away as a young man and went to Toledo. He remarried twice.
My aunt Evelinda and the late aunt Norma, older sisters of my mon, somehow met some of my lolo's relatives in Negros.
I have been wanting to trace the roots of my grandfather.
I heard the Aboitiz's are his relatives. When i was still young, when my lolo was still alive, Al Aboitiz, the founder of Davao light & Power company came to look for my grandfather but my grandfather denied his identity. He died not telling us his life story.
I have been wanting to know my other relatives in Negros.

God willing, when I get the chance to visit Italy, I would like to check the Bocanegra roots (although I think the spelling of our last name may have been changed in Spain)---probably was Boccanegra..my husband has family in Italy and I will ask her to check it out..

My fathers name is Napoleon Bocanegra and I havent seen him for alomost 5 yrs.; he used to tell us that he have a sister who got married that is working in PAL who was assigned in Davao City.We are presently residing here in Danao City Cebu.He told me before that I have 2 brothers in Negros and sisters in Davao City..

I am also Garcia-Bocanegra. I am just beginning in my search. I am 5th generation. There are many Garcias, not even of any relation, however I have learned the Bocanegra name is not extremley common and pretty difficult to trace back. Anyway Im told I have relatives in Texas. My great grandparents migrated from Texas to the north. Thats all I know for now.

My research of the Bocanegra name lead me to parts of Italy. I had no idea that name could possibly be of italian history. Growing up I was told to just say I was mexican american and to not ask any other questions. Its in my heart of hearts to find the truth. I am still searching for more information on the name. My family is very aloof when it comes to these things. I am 5th generation and they give me only little info to search with. I want to know our origins, I have always wondered about it. the above names are my paternal g-parents. Maria passed away 2009 but my g-parent is still alive, in Mex. Dont talk to him at all. Anybody connected out there???
Can someone tell me how the mother's maiden name and surnames are traditionally ordered? For ex., my dad's name is Jesus Garay bocanegra and he says the 'garay' is his mom's maiden name.
so if i search my grandma, do i look for 'maria soledad garay bocanegra'? or do i use her mother's maiden name in there somewhere?!! ahh, help! thanks!

I'm a Bocanegra from Colombia. Have you been successful finding information. My grandpa name was Jose Bocanegra and he passed away on December 10, 1988, my grandma was Cecilia Rojas de Bocanegra and she passed away on October 20, 1992. Is this info helpful? What have you found so far? We can share info since it seems we are both looking for lineage starting in Colombia.

Well Aguascalientes is not so far from San Juan del Rio. To test your hypothesis I need more data. Might be that we can infer some connection between from Perez Bocanegra's from San Juan del Rio and those from Aguascalientes,
