Hey,

Thanks for the reply. It turns out that Balthaser is not directly related, as I originally suspected that he might be. Shortly after I posted my original inquiry here, I ran across a probate record from Lynn Township (old Northampton, now Lehigh County) which decisively named not only my 4G-Grandmother as one of the daughters of Michael Bock, but also named her husband (my 4g-grandfather) Nicholas Bachert.

It may be that Michael and Balthaser were related, but more likely if they were, they likely weren't son/father.

Again, thanks very much for your reply on this. You may have given me more clues than I am presently able to follow up on.

I visited the town these Bock's immigrated from, in 2002.

Known Fact. Balthaser had a sister. Lisengericht Germany historical records have a record of 3 Bock siblings immigrating from Alten Hasslau, Germany (Province of Hesse). I was there in March 2002. Juergen and Anya Bock arranged a stay in Lisengericht for myself and my daughter. The arrangement included a tour of the town by a local genealogist.

BTW, apparently we were the first Bock Americans to return and visit.

Balthaser had one brother who immigrated with him. Wilhelm? was 1 year old at the time.

I was given a book that includes the 10 families that immigrated at the same time, although it does not list the children. I have a copy of the genealogist's document in german but have not yet had it translated. I just remember some of the information that was told to me while I was there.

I do not know his sister's name, nor if she arrived alive in the USA. I have not viewed the original passenger list but seem to recall it was a ship named ?"Good Snow Intent"?. I found the ship name on a descendent's website.

FYI: I found much information in the records in the Reading, PA library. My info is all 'put away' at the moment.

poof58 at yahoo.com

Charles W Bock - trying to find his place of birth and parents

I'm currently researching my great grandfather, Charles (Carl?) W Bock. I'm not sure what the W stands for - it might be Walter, as that was his first son's name, but my other thought was Wilhelm.

Records seem to dispute his birthdate - one record says 1879, but several say 1880. According to his gravestone he was born April 12, 1880. (In Germany.) At some point between 1881 and 1882 he immigrated to the US. Charles eventually ended up marrying Margaret Rinn (nee Quinn) and had two children, Walter and Richard.

All I can find on him are two census records, a naturalization record and a draft record. What I really want to know is where he was born in Germany and the names of his parents. I've found a few people with my last name who immigrated around the same time with children named Charles - which is precisely the issue. I'd like to know for sure who they were and where in Germany I hail from, so I can look a little further.

I would love to share more information with you, and I still have quite a bit of it, but it will have to be through e-mail.

Please private message me through Ancestry (I don't believe that you need to be a member, just clike on my user name above. Then I'll private message back my e-mail address, and you can e-mail me. That way I'll be able to send all of the information I have through e-mail which doesn't have all of the limitations that this obviously has!

Your Michael's father was John Bock (b. abt 1801 PA). These are my notes on John:
John Bock's connection to his parents is confirmed by his death record from Marion County WV, which identifies his father as Michael Bock. His birth date (abt. 1801) comes from Census data. His death date comes from death record information (14 Apr 1877), which also names his wife as Mahala Bock.

John was probably married twice. His first wife is believed to have been Elizabeth Baker, by whom he had his first four children:
Lafayette Bock b. 1828 Harrison County VA(WV)
John S. Bock b. 1831 Harrison County VA(WV)
Nancy Bock b. 1831 Harrison County VA(WV)
Martin M. Bock b. 1842 Harrison County VA(WV)

After Elizabeth's death, he married Mahala Ensminger. Their marriage certificate confirms Mahala's maiden name, Ensminger, and gives date and place of marriage (14 Oct 1845 Marion County VA(WV). John and Mahala had the following children:
Mary Ann Bock b. 1848 Marion County VA(WV)
Lindsay Bock (m) b. 1849 Marion County VA(WV)
William W. Bock b. 1851 Marion County VA(WV)
Michael Leon Bock b. 1855 Marion County VA(WV)
Martha Bock b. 1857 Marion County VA(WV)

John is listed living next to his brothers (Michael Jr., David, Solomon and Nicholas), and his father (therein called Michael Sr), in the 1830 Census. This connects him to father and siblings. Solomon Bock (his brother) shows up on the same page in later Census Records as well, and is one year younger. In the 1880 Census it says that Solomon's father and mother were born in Germany.

Marion County Deaths pg. 70 1875 - 1884 BOCK, John died: 4/14/1877 age: n/g parents: Michael & n/g wife: Mahala son: M.M. [Martin M. Bock]

John's wife Mahala Ensminger Bock was born about 1814 in VA(WV) and died after the 1870 Census in Marion County VA(WV). Mahala's parents were George Frederick and Margaret Ensminger. I have had much success lately in tracing this family. I made a connection back to the family as it has been traced in the Ensminger Family book by Martin Bell, who had traced the family from before their arrival in America. Check out my recent postings on the Ensminger message board for details. Then find the Ensminger book, which is available on Ancestry and on-line at the LDS Family History Archives at this site:
http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/FH3...

This message will be continued.

This is an old posting, and perhaps you have already discovered your ancestry by now. But I have a great deal of information on this family. Your Michael Bock comes from John Bock (1801 PA-1877 Marion, WV) and Mahala Ensminger (1814 VA-Aft. 1870 Marion, WV). I have much more if you are still interested. Just post a reply here, or private message me.

Can you connect with James M. Bock (1836, Cambridge City, Wayne County IN, died 1872 in Moulton, Appanoose County Iowa....just north of M0 and Mary E. Walker? Parents Michael James Bock and Margaret Frazier. His parents were Michael and Elizabeth Bock who lived in North Carolina and then IN. Check Quaker records in IN and MO. Perhaps James Bock went to MO because there were other Bocks nearby. Some Bocks went directly to Kansas from IN while others stayed in IN.
Good Luck!

William M. Bock, 71, of Bradford Woods,

William M. Bock
Bradford Woods

William M. Bock, 71, of Bradford Woods,
passed on into everlasting life Monday,
July 18, 2011.
He was the beloved husband and soul-mate of the late Kathleen Francis (Griggle); loving father of Bonnie Jean Bock (Peter Dattilo), Bruce Elmer Bock, Beth Ann Bock and Brandy Louise Bock; proud grandfather of Joshua Wolfson (Missy); and great-grandfather of Hanna Beth Wolfson; and brother of Irene Labas (the late Nick), Glenn Bock (the late Catherine), Lorraine Rome (Tony) and the late Elmer Bock (Elizabeth). He is also survived by many other loving relatives and friends. Bill and Kathy enjoyed an incredibly special love for each other. This romance began and their true love materialized when they were 13 years old and Kathy broke Catholic school protocol and asked Bill to a school dance where unbeknownst to them, their future brother in-law, Tony (Ron Sarazen) was singing with the band. Since that day, Bill was never separated from his beloved Kathy and they married at age 19 and began a wonderful life raising their children and creating an extraordinary family life. Besides a long and prosperous career in commercial retail development and construction, Bill was an avid animal lover where horses and all dogs of any breed took up a special place in his heart. He was also the ultimate sun worshiper who loved the beach, water, nature and relaxing in the beautiful warm rays of the sun. Bill spent countless evenings singing Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra classics with his family on his karaoke. He was a consummate gentleman, with a soothing and humble persona and striking good looks. While Bill will be missed beyond explanation by his family, for he was an exceptional human being, son, brother, husband and father, and an all-around spiritually and morally advanced individual who constantly put the welfare of his family and others above himself. We all rejoice in the knowledge that he has been reunited with his Heavenly Father and his dear No. 1 Angel, Kathy. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME OF CRANBERRY, 2678 Rochester Road, (Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review )

Rudolph or William Bock

Rudolph Bock was my great grandfather. He was born March 8, 1885 in Bellville, TX. His father owned a store in Bellville, TX. The "Bock Building" still exists on the town square. Died March 16, 1961 at Deaton Hospital in Galena Park, TX. His wife was Susan Lottie Perry Bock. His son was also named Rudolph Bock. My paternal grandmother (his daughter) was Minnie Dolores Bock Howell and she was born in Houston, TX. I cannot find any information regarding my Bock ancestors. I think my great grandfather was also named Rudolph or William Bock or both. Please reply with any information. Thanks in advance, Joseph Howell
I have hit a dead end after my great grandfather. Because his son divorced my grandmother in 1959 family information before my grandfather is sparse.

Vitus was born in Reistingen Dillingen Schwaben Bayern (Germany) on June 25 1891. He apparently servid in WW1 for the germans in 1914. Between 1914 and 1920 he moved to the U.S. and settled in Queens.

Anyone have any clues on further ancestory?

Hi, My name is Don Brooks, rosstrailpark@yahoo.com. I just read your inquiry to Jean Kennedy, who was researching her husbands's family of "Charley Bock". Her husband and I are first cusins and still communicate. Jean passed away in 2004 after an extended illness. I have most of the genealogy she had. My sister, Barbara Karr and I were the cousins she talked about in this message and we are still active in the research but can not get past Peter, his wife and John A Bock, yet. If you will email me I would be glad to share any information I have with you. They are still a hot tipic. Don

Donald Bock, 81, of Erie, son of the late George and Amanda Bock.
Donald Bock, 81, of Erie, died Friday morning February 19, 2010 at Twinbrook Medical Center following a brief illness. A resident of Erie all of his life he was born on May 8, 1928 a son of the late George and Amanda Bock. Donald attended Wayne School and the Barber National Institute. Previously he had been employed at Pelhan and Marathon Electric as a grinder, Elby's, and Cinema World. He attended ABE classes at the Barber National Institute and then Lakeside Senior Center after his retirement. He enjoyed entertaining others by singing and dancing including composing his own songs. He showed his creative side by drawing portraits of people he would meet. He loved to paint and won "honorable mention" when one of his pieces was entered in an art show. Donald had many interests and hobbies including bingo, bowling, and karaoke. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Art, Tom, and Ray Bock; his Domcare provider, Inez McMann whom he lived with for many years prior to moving to Shorehaven Personal Care Home.
Hi Sheila,

It's been a while since you posted your query, and I'm wondering if you've gotten any clearer definition for what you're seeking here?

I have that there was a Susannah Bock who married a Nicholas Bacher(t) and that they baptised their daughter Maria Salome in Penn Township (the same area you're looking at as it later mostly became Carbon County) Northampton County in 1791.

Maria Salome was the sister of my 3G-Grandfather, Anthony Bachert/Bockert.

Is it possible that we're looking for the same people in regard to your Bock family connection?

Thanks!

Joe Hittle
skadj@yahoo.com
Balthaser Bock - Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania

It's not hard to find gedcoms which "have" that Balthaser Bock's father was a Johannes Bock who settled into Berks County in Pre-Revolutionary War days.

Some of those include other siblings as well, but I've yet to find any that include any sisters for Balthaser.

This may simply be a moot question since there are no gedcoms to indicate that Balthaser's father left a will anyplace, but, does anyone know where that document might be located if one did exist?

Thanks!

Joe Hittle
skadj@yahoo.com
Joseph A.
