Edward BUDDINGTON

Edward BUDDINGTON married Charity (surname unknown) about 1754.

They had daughters Thomasin (13-4-1755), Charity (24-6-1759), Mary Ann (18-10-1761), Joan (18-5-1765) and Elizabeth (23-8-1767), all in Stoke Damerel. Elizabeth was my 4G grandmother. I can't find a marriage in Stoke Damerel for Edward and Charity, presume they were married in some nearby parish not on IGI.

It would appear that the surnames BUDDINGTON and BODDINGTON were interchangeable at that time.

Can anybody offer help?
I have relatives who are Bodingtons (single D), and have not managed to have any luck in my searches to find family members John Bodington from the Cape Province and William Bodington from Johannesburg, both in South Africa and were brothers.

I have details for their other brother, Charles Bodington(1877-1961) who married Jessie McMaster(1882-1968) and then moved to Rhodesia in the early 1920's. Their son, Archibald Peter Bodington(1915-1937) had a daughter with Anne Margaret Bouwer, who was called Maureen. Maureen is my grandmother.

OBE and MBE

I have been doing some research on my fifth cousin Colonel George Lewis Redner Bodington. Searching through the London Gazette I found an entry for him dated 10 December 1946 that has him with an OBE. I can find no entry that grants him that award unlike his brother.

His brother was Major Nicholas Redner Bodington (he of the SOE) who is listed as having the OBE and MBE but again I can find no entry in the London Gazette where he is granted the MBE (if indeed they list MBE receipients, I havn't checked)

Does anyone know where I can find this missing information or who to contact to find it?

It has occured to me that the London Gazette has made an error but I hope not.

I'm researching Bodingtons and Boddingtons in the Bethnal Green,Stepney, Bow,Hackney etc area - the 2nd "d" seems to come and go depending on the spelling abilities of the writer or the accent of the speaker. We have a Richard Bodington married to Frances date of first offspring William c1774. Richard himself bc 1749 may have parents William (Willm) and Hellen possibly Ellen? Grateful to know if you have any connection with or knowledge of this line.
Jenny

As you say, there is a huge mass of information for Bodington/Boddington researchers (including fascinating interviews and letters, plus the separately-shelved family trees). But for some reason Bailey does not crop up in any of the volumes.

Hi, Those names don't ring any bells with me but there are many volumes of the Bodington info in the Society of Genealogists. If you look at their online catalogue you should be able to see. The info is all well indexed - but note the Bodington name indexes have their own separate volumes - they are not in with the other names. Staff at the Society of Genealogists had a bit of trouble finding the info when I went last week - it has been moved to some bottom shelves which are large enough to house all the volumes.

Hi Richard, I've just caught up with this board after a break in my Bodington and Boddington research. I would be very interested in the Bodington research you have.

There is a huge Bodington collection in the Society of Genealogists in London which covers many of the branches of the family. I have got back to the mid 1600s when the name was spelt Bodington. My branches' names evolved to Boddington. (I am descended twice over from the Bodingtons).
Look forward to hearing from you
Helen

Re: Bodington Family Genealogy

I am interested in Sarah Hannah Bodington (1823-1900), the youngest child of James Bodington (1784-1825) of Manor House, Sheepy and his wife Mary nee Repton. Sarah Hannah's grandfparents were John Bodington of Stone House Cubbington and his wife Elisabeth nee Hasbourne. In 1841Sarah Hannah married William Fowler JP of Erdington (1818-1887), the son of William and Hannah Fowler, and had at least 10 children.

I am also interested in a Dr George Bodington (1800-1882) who may be a relative although born in Calverton Buckinghamshire. George was a well known Erdington GP and appers to have married William Fowler's aunt Ann Fowler in Birmingham in 1827. George Bodington's brothers Robert Bodington (a farmer) and William Bodington (another GP) were also born in Calverton but appear in Kenilworth on later censuses. At least 2 of George's grandchildren were born in Kenilwoth, Oliver Eaton Bodington the lawyer in 1859 and Juliet Eaton Bodington in 1860.

Edward Boddington married Maud Marion Bazin, Jun quarter 1888, London and they lived at 28 New Bridge St where Edward was the manager of a Funeral Company that had been managed for many years by Maud's uncle, Alexis Bono, who was also my gt-gt-grandfather.
Are there any descendants of this marriage out there - I have some information about the Bazins and Brealeys.

Hello All
I am currently researching my family genealogy and have come to a dead end 11 generations back in history. I know that my relative George Boddington married Elizabeth Brampton May 5 1711 at St. Anne Soho Westminster London and eventually had a son William. Unfortunately I do not have any vital info on dates of birth or death for them or their son and grandson William II. If their is anyone who could help me with any info that would be great as I am getting married in June and really wanted to display a somewhat completed Family Tree for my guests at my reception. Thanks. Brenda
