Boden/Norris/Mann Family

My brick wall stops at Isaac Boden, born about 1808 to 1811 in Virginia --- according to his earlest census. He married Mary Norris and they lived in Maryland, at least most of the time. I found them first living near Sidling Hill in Maryland near Hancock. Their post office was Sir John's run which is across the Potomac River in Virginia (now West Virginia). The more recent census (1850-1860) they were living in either Washington, Frederick or Allegany Counties. I think the county lines changed, not necessarily their home. They had three sons (fairly late in life according to the census). My ancestor Charles William Boden was born 1843 and his two younger brothers were John Henry and Joseph E.Boden. The younger two married Smith sisters and moved to Pennsylvania. All three were in the Civil War. Charles William married Mary Isabelle Mann. Their children were John Thomas b. 1867, Joseph Denton b. 1868 (my grandfather), Millard Fillmore b. 1871, Maria Willet b. 1873, David Henry Hays b. 1876, Charles William b.1879, Rhoda Isabelle b. 1882, Cordella Blanche b. 1884, Clara Margaret Ebsworth b. 1887, and Franklin Taylor b. 1890. There must be some descendents who have some additional information. Please get back to me if you know anything about Isaac and Mary(Norris)Boden. Thanks

Job Boden/John Edward Boden

My great-grandfather - Job Boden- was born 1866/67 (according to his marriage and death certificates) . He had at least 7 children (1901 census)so I guess I'm far from alone in being descended from him. In tracing the line beyond him though I have hit a brick wall - he doesn't appear any where before the 1891 census. He may be the same person as John Edward Boden who was born in roughly the right place/time with a father of the right name (Joseph) but at the moment that's mere whimsy. Is there anybody out there can shed any light?

Alan Boden

Well. I haven't found the link yet, but I am SURE we are related somehow! You are related to Schroeders as well, and a few others that I am also related to. And I see that Rodt, which hasn't popped up for me, is very near to Schleidweiler. I have a hard time believing that we have so many names and locations in common without being related.

I haven't gone through everyone yet, though. Nor have I finished my tree. My end goal is to basically do a tree for the town of Tipton, Kansas. Most of the families that originally settled the town came from the Schleidweiler-Rodt-Welschbillig area of Germany, and straight west of there in Redange, Luxembourg. Most of the same families live there today. It is still a very small town with a very Catholic background and viewpoint.

Sorry, I'm babbling on....I will contact soon, esp if I come up with a link.
Paula

I realize you posted this a LONG time ago, so perhaps you have found the information you were looking for.

However, I know some of the Boden family came on to Tipton, Kansas, as well as some members of the Witt family. I am related to the Scheers, Streits, Schmits and Gaspers, who also came from the Schleidweiler or surrounding area in Germany. Franz Boden married Elizabeth Schmit. Elizabeth's mother, Regina Fey (Fie?) came over in 1877 on the Vaderland with 22 other members of family and friends from that area, including Henri Streit, my great-great-grandfather.

There was a Maria Witt who married Valentine Gradig. Their son Urban married Katherine Kohn, who was Henri Streit's granddaughter. Maria was born in 1860 and Valentine in 1855, both in Germany, but I do not know where. Their first two children were also born in Germany, I believe Joseph in Rhineland-Pfalz, which is the area where Schleidweiler is located. Anna Maria, the second child, was either born there or in Westphalia. All the other children were born in Kansas.

I don't know if this helps or not? I would be happy to correspond with you for more information on both our parts!
Paula Roegge

Hi Brian,

I saw your post today regarding Boden's in the US possibly going to Canada. There was a Henry Boden that did come into Ontario in the mid 1800's. Unfortunately, the borders between Canada & the US were open, so there are not migration papers to be found. I have found him in the Federal Canadian census as late as 1881. He had listed on the census that he was from the US b. 26-Apr-1812 or 1814? He is buried at the Hartman cemetary, south of Mount Albert, Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario. My husband's family is branched from his son, Thomas Boden, b 8-Nov-1861, Ontario, Canada. Another son of Henry's, Sidney, b. 6-May-1852, moved back to the St Clair, Michigan area after being married in Ontario.

Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, the only name that I have linking me to this surname is my great great grandmother, Dametta Boden Shands. She was married to Sandy Shands and they had several children together. I tried to find her in the census records, but didn't have any luck. I am assuming she would have been born around the 1860's since she had most of her children during the later part of the 1880's.

I would appreciate contact from anyone with information on the BODEN family. I know the following about Dametta BODEN family:

Dametta Boden married Sandy Shands most likely during the mid 1800's. Early photos of the couple shows Dametta Boden as being very fair skin/possibly caucasian. Sandy Shands was an African American. The couple had ten children in the Petersburg and Dinwiddie County, VA area or maybe even further south. Of the ten children, three were named:

Rosa Shands Mabry married Eddie Mabry in Petersburg, VA
Beulah Shands
Carrie Shands

Hi Christine! I am so happy to hear from you! Yes, I would love more information, as this has been a major obstacle for me!
My grandfather, Stanley Boden, was a son of John Thomas Boden, son of William and Amanda. Stanley and his wife/family migrated to Vancouver area, Seattle, then back to NJ...where I was ultimately born (in Whitehouse Station, where the Van Hornes came from!). I do not think Stanley and his wife knew this because their research which was passed down to me, stopped at John Thomas (who passed when his son Stanley was a young child). So, in a wierd twist of coincidence, the family ended back where they started!
What can you tell me about Thomas Shanklin Boden?

Hi. I have traced my Grandfather from Saskatoon back to his gGrandfather, William Boden (Victoria Rd, Ont.,Canada) married to Amanda Jean Hambleton. My info says William was born in Markham, Ontario, about 1837(?)maybe a little earlier. This is where my trail ends. I have seen the name Thomas Boden, guessing born abt 1805(?), which would put him in the right timeframe, but no further info. Can anyone assist with info on William's ancestry? I see that there are Bodens currently in Markham and I wonder if someone can help me.

I've been in touch with you a few years ago. I decided to try looking for Isaac Boden again. Your message caught my eye. I didn't know where Isaac was born. In one census he said he was born in VA. Do you know why or when he went to Missouri? There must have been relatives there. I find more Bodens in Missouri than here in Maryland. I spent some money of a genealogist to try to figure this out. She did send me considerable information on the Norris family. She didn't find anything definite, but with her info I have pretty well narrowed the Norris line down to a Thomas Norris. In one census, when they were older I noticed that their farm was surrounded with Norris men's farms and their families. Three of the men were brothers so I figure Mary was a sister. Their father was Thomas but I can't find his wife's name. This Thomas left a will naming only two sons. The Sidling Hill book suggests he left out the third son because he had married a part Indian woman. We need to keep in touch and try to piece this together. Thomas didn't mention daughters in his will but that isn't too unusual. The Sideling book claims to know there were two daughters.

Hi Marg,

I just happened upon your post last evening regarding your grandmother. I was not aware of your grandmother's name other than first name until I read your post. I can do some general searches for Allen's in the Mount Albert area on census records if you like. Do you have any other information about your grandmother regarding birth date, death date and marriage date? Do you have any info regarding siblings or where she grew up or was born?

(Just as background, I am Randy's wife, Nancy. Randy is the youngest son of Wm. Robert Boden (your Dad's youngest brother). I was so excited to see your post last evening! I had received a stray e-mail regarding information on Henry Boden, so I thought I would check out the Ancestry posts & there you were!

This is a very old posting, so I am not sure how often you check back, but hopefully this will get to you soon.

You can contact me at n-boden@hotmail.com

William Lyth Boden was my Grandad. He married Harriet Viggars and had 8 children, they lived in Spoutfield Road, Cliffe Vale, Stoke-on-Trent. He died in November 1991 aged 71. Grandad was adopted we think by his auntie, but we have no idea apart from that.

I don't know if this matches any of your
names.

Reply: Yes, It does-exactly as my grandmother's tree illustrates. My grandmother,Edith was in direct contact with decend
ents of Lucy Boden's children in Cleobury Mortimer. My mother, is her only daughter. Edith had a sister Lilian and 4 brothers.
Edwin, Jack, William, and Lilian, and John Jr. of Horseditch, Her father is one of the sons of John and Fanny, and one of your husbands grandmother Lucy's brothers. I have copies of letters to cousins. Edith wrote to them in Manchester area until her passing in 1972. Reply would be appreciated.. Henry Wilson is a distant cousin without a doubt.
