My Grandfather arrived from Russia via Liverpool, England in 1902. At that time the family name was spelled Bogdanoff. He had a twin brother who travelled to Argentina via Liverpool with a brother-in-law maned Loshkin.
I would be interested in locating any family in Argentina or elsewhere.

Maurice Robert Bogdanoff

I'm looking for someone who know's something about Maurice Robert Bogdanoff inorder to track my family. In my quest to find my father's family, I discoved that my great aunt Mollie Green was married to Maurice R Bogdanoff in 1922. The marriage record from a synagoge in Canada lists his parents as Harry Bogdanoff and Anna Kolin Koritz.

Bogdanoff's on east coast

I see that most inquiries re: Bogdanoff's are from emigration to the west coast or other countries. There are Bogdanoff's on the east coast -- we are in NYS and I have met some from PA. My relatives came from the Ukraine - probably about 1880 and settled in Bronx, NY. Morris Bogdanoff was a builder in NYC and Westchester County, NY from 1920-1960, as was his son David Bogdanoff (my step Dad) - who won many awards for low income housing delvelopments. The family claims that the name Bogdanoff came from a Ukrainian freedom fighter Peter Bogdan -- and that many jewish Ukranians took this name when forced to adopt last names by the Russian Government.

Bogdanoffs in Russia

Does anyone have any information on the Bogdanoff family when they lived in Russia. My grandfather Mathew and grandmother, Ana came over here from Russia. My dad Peter Bogdanov was born during their long travel from Russia to America. My uncles Walter and Alex were born in Russia. There other brothers and sisters born in SF... We all grew up in SF. There's actually 4 main Russian families that live on Potrero Hill in San Fran.

I have created a genealogy-related BOGDONOFF mailing list for all you researchers. Please join us:

BOGDONOFF. A mailing list for the discussion and sharing of
information regarding the Bogdonoff surname and variations (e.g.,
Bogdonov, Bogdanoff, etc.) in any place and at any time. You must be a subscriber to
post to the list. To subscribe send the word "subscribe" (without
the quotes) as the only text in the body of a message to
bogdonoff-l-request@rootsweb.com (mail mode) or
bogdonoff-d-request@rootsweb.com (digest mode).

Please email me at jillaine@benton.org if you have any questions.

Sharing our email addresses

While it appears that providing an email address is required to post a message, that email address does not come up anywhere in the message once posted. I am interested in staying in touch with Bogdonoff (all spellings) researchers. But doing so by email is much easier than trying to remember to come back to this board. If you're interested in subscribing to an email list for researchers of the Bogdonoff (all spellings) surname, please contact me.

My email address is jillaine@benton.org.
My family tree site may be found at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine. (The Bogdonoff information there is not as updated as my offline information is.)

My husband's ancestor, Benjamin Bogdonoff, was born in 1863 somewhere near the Poland/Russia border. He and his wife, Leah [Glassman?] left Poland/Russia in about 1885, and headed for England. They had their first three children there (Harry b. 1890; Katherine b. 1892; Maurice b. 1893). In about 1894, the left England for the U.S., settling in and around Lowell, MA.
They had at least four more children, one of whom is the grandfather of my husband.
