Now that we have y-DNA markers for the Boggess family of Virginia & the Bauguess family of North Carolina (the markers prove that these are the same), it would be nice to try to persuade some of the English & French variants to get tested to see if they also match those of the Virginia family.

This prove faster than anything where in England we really need to look.

Timothy Peterman

Another Boggess researcher shows Anna 'Eliza' Watson as John's first wife, but no sources were listed for this nor do the Boggess books by JoAnn Smith and Joanna Fox show a maiden name. I have not yet found anything else to corroborate the last name of Watson.

Jessie V. (Boggess) Schemmer lists her parents as John W. Boggess and Mary Kenyon on the 1925 Lyon Co., Iowa census. It is possible Mary is the daughter of, or related to, Oliver and Lavina Kenyon who came from New York and Portage Co., Ohio to Winneshiek Co., Iowa (next to Howard Co., where at least some of John and Mary's children were born). A quick search of adjoining counties did not reveal any other likely Kenyons.

Please update us periodically about anything else you are able to uncover about this branch of our Boggess family.

Mary Ann Boggess Carlisle

Mary Ann Boggess married David Carlisle - that's in several documented sources. Lydia Jane Boggess married James Alexander and Mary Ann Carlisle verified her daughter Lydia's age. This is in documented sources, too. So if Mary Ann was a Boggess before she was a Carlisle - what was her maiden name? Was it Lindsay - daughter of Robert Lindsay and Susanna Opie? Was it Boggess and she had Lydia out of wedlock? This Mary Ann is one of my brick walls!

Are there any other he remembered from that time?

With the picture it is a little bit difficult, because my old laptop died, and with it the pictures.
