Well some of my old posts here may be inaccurate.

It now appears my lineage is:

John Eugene Boisseau (my father) b. 1917 in Sioux City, Iowa
married Karla Hawley (aka Helen Tate)

Stephen Eugene Boisseau b. 1880 in New Orleans, Louisiana
married Mary Frances Hays

Eugene Boisseau b. 1833 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
married Isabella Garcia & later Rosa Taylor

Pierre Boisseau (aka Pedro Boisseau) b. ? of Bordeaux, France
married Maria Llaneres b. ?

Estevan Boisseau b. ?
married Marie Ysabeau b. ?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Pierre and Maria had 4 sons that I know of:

Etienne Boisseau (aka Stephen Boisseau) b. 1821
Pierre Augustin Boisseau (aka Justin Boisseau) b. 1823
Eugene Boisseau b. 1833 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana (same guy as above)
Jules Boisseau b. 1830 (may have died young)

Etienne Boisseau (aka Stephen Boisseau) and his brother Augustin (aka Justin Boisseau) went to live in the Shaker Community in Kentucky. Justin stayed there perhaps 8 year and then left. Stephen however remained there for the rest of his life.

I have documents from the achieves in Baton Rouge that will substantiate the names and dates above for most of the above.

Anyone have any more info on any of these people?

Thanks,
Tom Boisseau
If you have the source for the story of his origins, please share it! The DAR did admit at least one member based on his supposed military service (probably in the late 1960's or early 1970's), but the current status is that anyone wishing to obtain DAR membership through him needs to produce documentation of his service -- and there have been no takers, so far. The only "source" I have found is an anonymous newspaper article from 1959 which does not cite any previous documents. Has anyone found a document earlier than 1959 that mentions the Boisseau origins and military service?

John McCoy
(RealMac@aol.com)

Hi,
I know this is an old post, but hope you will still get my message. My 2 G Grandfather was Hiram Murphy born abt 1818 in Clay County, VA. In checking Clay Co wasn't formed until much later. In was formed from a few Counties, and one was Harrison Co., WV. So I am trying to see if my Hiram Murphy could be a son of your William Murphy born 1875 in Harrison Co. I saw in your message that you live in Wood Co, are there any Murphy's in this line who may know any info on Williams son Hyram/Hiram? I can't seem to find on any info on Hiram's parents for sure.
IF you can help me in this I would be so grateful. If not please message me if you can.
Gale

While compiling information on the "Swiss" (plus French, German, and Italian) settlers of Vevay, Indiana in preparation for the Vevay bicentennial in 2013, I was not able to locate any sources for the information about Jean Baptiste Boisseaux (Boisseau, Bosso, Bosaw, etc.) and his wife Barbara Frick, who settled near Vevay possibly as early as 1813.

The story that is widely reported on the internet has him born in 1756 in France ("near Paris"), then coming to America with Lafayette and serving in the American Revolution. He died in Switzerland Co., Indiana in 1835 (will probated there, mentioning only his wife Barbary).

Has anyone seen a source for his date of birth? Where does the story about Lafayette and the Revolutionary War come from? Is there a family bible record with his age? The stories sound entirely plausible, but we need to know where the information came from!

John McCoy
(RealMac@aol.com)

Hi,
My name is John Lippard and I need some help researching my Boissaeu lineage. My GG grandmother was Elizabeth BOISSEAU (b.April 27, 1842-d. March 6, 1915) (Bettie Ann) Cain. She was born in Petersburg Va.and was the daughter of Dr.Charles Boisseau, a physician? (got the name and occupation from my G Grandfather's obit. 1929 )Her Husband was George R.Cain (b.1822 died 1880) of Petersburg. They are burried in Blandford cemetary in Petersburg.

Note: George R. Cain also had been listed as Robert Cain in the 1850 and 1860 Census and had been married before to an Elizabeth Moody. They had a child born in 1848 listed as Robert(jr.) in the earlier census' and Emmet Cain in the 1870 census. Also it is not clear as to George R. Cain's year of birth. Different census' have it around 1822 or 1825, but his Death certificate states 1820. He did die on Jan.8, 1880 and was a Shoe Maker by trade.

My name is Juanita. I am searching to some information on Edith Franklin Brown (Wager) who married John Eldridge Boisseau. This was Edith's second marriage, her first ending with divorce. According to the Vermont Certificate of Marriage, John was the son of John F. P. Boisseau and Fannie E Parham. John E. was born 06 September 1869 (or 05 September 1870 depending on which ship manifest you look at) in Richmond, Virginia.

John E and Edith married 27 July 1912 in Bennington, Vermont. The last record I can find for them together is a 1929 ships manifest. Edith is listed in a ship manifest in 1937 as widowed. During their travels, home was in Baltimore, Maryland.

I would like to know if you have anything on John Eldridge Boisseau and his wife, Edith Franklin Brown (Wager).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and efforts!

Juanita

Hi Bee,
Like your name.

I do not have your line in the family tree however I know there are many African-American Boisseaus in the Chesterfield, Richmond and Dinwiddie, Petersburg areas.

Someof these families must be related to the Rev. Boisseau somehow of course too some African-Americans ended up sometimes with the name of someone they worked for sadly were slaves of.

I am as a matter of fact sometime this year going to start adding a page on African-American Boisseaus and attach it to my Boisseau family website at Homestead.

I have several genealogy websites of my own families and alot of genealogy websites for lots of Va. ancestors of everyone.

when have time I work on my sites and I also do genealogy research weekly at LVA.

God bless,
Beth

My great-great grandfather was Peter Fitzpatrick Boisseau. He lived in Chesterfield Co. until 1860 when he sold his land and slaves that he owned and moved to Amelia County. I have no record of his owning slaves after that time. His grandaughter, Mary Anna, was my grandmother. When I was a child there were few of her relatives around. All of this bunch had light skin, dark brown to black hair, and blue eyes. Check out my Ancestry tree. Watkins-Blanton tree. I have pictures included for some of them. My grandmother married Reuben Blanton. Also the Library of Va. should be a big help along with Chesterfield County.

Hi there! My name is Howard Harrison Boisseau III and I currently live in Denver, Colorado! I am originally from Virginia right around the area mentioned in Rev. James' bio!

Which leads to the obvious question! Are we directly related in some way?! What knowledge do you have of the introduction of African blood into the Boisseau blood-line in or around the Central Virginia area? (My family are dark-skinned African-Americans with strong Africoid features.)

Family is family! I would so love to hear any input that may shed light on who my family really is! =)

Thanks...(family calls me..) Bee
Hi Beth,

I noticed from your web site that there was a Charles Boisseau born in Petersburg June 24,1824. I'm thinking that this MIGHT be my GGG grandfather? If so he would have been 18 when my GG grandmother was born. Elizabeth Boisseau Cain, my GG grandmother, according to the 1880 census, was 38 years old in 1880. I have copy of my G grandfather's obit from 1929. In it is stated that he was the grandson of the late Charles Boisseau, a prominent physician form Petersburg, VA. I'm not certain if it is the same Charles Boisseau, but if you can confirm, I would be grateful.

Thanks, John

Hi John,
I have several Charles Boisseaus in my family tree including several in Petersburg and the area.
I will have to do a little more research to determine which man is yours but they all are descend from th Rev. James Boisseau the Huguenot who came to Va. in 1689.
I have a website at: http://boisseau.homestead.com/

Beth

I'm looking for two people by the names of Michael C. Boisseau. He was possibly born in either 1955 or 1956. Not sure where he lived possibly in Virginia. Don't know his mothers name. The other is Michelle Gordon possibly with the maiden name Boisseau. Husbands name is Neil Gordon. And her mother was possibly named Nancy. And she most likely lives/lived in florida. Both might have had a dad by the name of William(Bill) Camp Boisseau. Thank you for any help you can give me!

I found a 1911 census Stormont Cornwall Ontario with Ben born looks like 1852? age 59, Henriette (it's messy so ancestry.com thinks it's Margette) born 1855, looks like a daughter Emiline born August 1879 age 32, Rosealma? born Feb 1888, Josephine born Jan 1891, unknown female born April 1892, Albina born Aug (year is hard to decipher but it looks like they made a few mistakes and the first daughter whose name I cannot read may be 19 and Albina may be 18) then there is Telesfore born October 1898.

If this is true that Ben was born about 1852 then I found a death record also for Albelanie in Cornwall on 23 Duncan Street born in Quebec March 3 doesn't say what year, date of death Dec 9 1933 age 83, (abt 1850)widowed. Says his parents are John Lalonde, born in Quebec and Josette Lauzon born Quebec, the informant being Ben's daughter Josephine Lalonde.
Does that sound correct?

that's wonderful news, thank you,

Albelanie, as his tombstone indicates, is also known as Belanie on census records, and sometimes as Ben in others,

I have yet to look around the Lachine area for marriages for this fellow,

but the Lalonde / Massia people were predominantly west of Montreal Island, .. St-Anne de Bellevue, Vaudreuil, Ile Perrot, Lachine, and the Soulange districts, ..

It's a question of hitting the correct name with the correct parish : a tricky proposition for a fellow with three names, .. lol

I live in Wood Co., WV. and some family members could not get in under his name. I hope that this has changed. Ray Boso, who also lives here, said that he might have something to prove that he did served but he has not produced it.
Hi,
I am also a descendant of Jean Baptist Boisseaux.

I have not worked on this line for years but would love to hear from you with any updates. I few years ago, I talked to a lady who is also looking at this family and she found a village not to far from Paris called Boisseaux. She had written a letter to the "Mayor" to see if there might be a chance to find records that could lead to his ancestors. I have not heard back from her. If any of you know of her, I would love to know how to reach her.

The DAR will not recognize him and will not let anyone join thru him. I do not want to join but I hate that he does not get recognized for his service. Part of the problem maybe that we do not know how his name was listed at the time. The land that he settled, here in WV, was suppose to have been a land-grant for his payment of service.
I would love to find his family in France. If anyone has any other leeds, please get in touch.
Emilee

My home is in Owensboro Kentucky. I went to Vevay several times, only to find the graves "missing", Ibelieve they are in the town on the main road but in an unmarked section. Our family roots are in the area that is now West Virginia,

Hi,

Leonidas was my paternal great great grandfather. My grandfather was David W Boisseau, great grandfather was David W Boisseau who was the son of Leonidas. My great grandfather David Boisseau was married to Elizabeth Faull and my grandfather was their only child however Elizabeth had a son from her first marriage named George.

Since I have yet to marry, I still have the last name of Boisseau and live in Issaquah WA. Apparently our family doesn't move around much. :-)

Thank you Helen, this is great. Jean and Barbara have been my biggest block in doing my genealogy. I have found all of the lines of my ancestors, in their home land, except for them.

Please let me know if you get a reply from the mayor. I will pray that we receive a good answer.

We know that Barbara was of German descent and I have found Fricks' in Pa at her time but not her. I have probably looked at her Father but no children are recorded that I can find. Someday someone will enter her genealogy to the internet.

Keep up the good work and take care.

Have a Blessed Day.

Your Cousin,

Emilee
