I have found an 1860 US Federal Census record for
Brunswick, Glynn County, Georgia for the James Holzendorf family. Note that the name is transcribed by error as 'HOLGENDORF" instead of HOLZENDORF.

James Holdgendorf 49
Aramintha M Holdgendorf 48
Margaret A Holdgendorf 27
James D Holdgendorf 25
Catherine E Holdgendorf 23
Orlando C Holdgendorf 19
Martha J Holdgendorf 17
Mary L Holdgendorf 14
John H Holdgendorf 11
Georgia Holdgendorf 9
Aramintha T Holdgendorf 7
Alexander Holdgendorf 5

This will verify that Margaret is the daughter of James and Aramintha Holzendorf.

Hello!

I'm a German Bold (formerly Boldt), descended from Jacob Bold(t) who came here in the 1880's during the _Kulturkampf_. I'd like to hear from his other descendants, especially the ones in SWPA near Pittsburgh.

I'd also like to know more about the Boldt family's German history, and whether Jacob Boldt was any relation to ancestors of the WWII German war hero and author Gerhardt Boldt.

Wow thanks for that Jackie I had almost given up finding out if it was true that he served in India. I couldn't find him in the british 1901 census so now I know why. I knew Samuel served in the Duke of Cornwalls light infantry and that he was in world war 1 but that was all. I really know so little about my fathers side of the family but slowly with the help of a lot of people things are falling into place.
regards
Rosina

I found the info. on a family history web site with a military section.Samuel Trott (if he was a gardener from Cudworth Chard, father Joseph) served with the Duke of Cornwalls light infantry. He joined in 1895 and was in India for 5 yrs.serving on the north west frontier between1897-1898
He was in Ceylon from 1900-1902. So your family tales were right. I always like it when that happens
Jackie

She lived
in North Platte, Lincoln County, NE in the 1930's. Went to
visit family in Germany and met Mr. Bold in New York City
when she returned. I'm pretty sure they were married there
but lived in New Milford where he was a butcher. They had
2 daughters, one was named Joyce I believe. After his
death, she remarried a man with the last name of Novack.

If there is anyone out there who can help find the children
of Tony and Mary or can put me in touch with any family
members, please contact me.

Thanks, Pat

The British Empire was often at war. He may have been sent to fight abroad and died there.
If you know his regiment you should be able to find which wars they were involved in.
There are a number of websites which can help.
Search for the regiment name, the war name, or more generally for Victorian Wars.
The Imperial War Museum and The National Archives websites will give you research guidelines which will help.
If he did die abroad its possible it is recorded in the Army BMD records which can be found on www.findmypast.com
They have other Military records which might help.
Don't forget to check the Military records on Ancestry.
They are mostly concerned with WWI and WWII but there are other records.
Good Luck

Yes - You are looking at the right people - but as i said its a bit complicated.
I'll try and explain it.

1861 Census shows 5 Webb children Albert b1851, Richard b1853, George b1855, Ellen b1857, Julia b1859
Walter Saxon Justamond Bold Webb is not born till 1865.

Bold Bold dies in 1866 and the children start using his name after this date.

1871 Census Louisa has fallen on hard times, she and the two youngest children Julia & Walter are in the Workhouse using Louisa's name of Webb.
Louisa continues to use Webb for the rest of her life.

Albert Bold - 1870 marries Elizabeth. 1871 Albert & Elizabeth are boarders in Ilminster. 1881/1891/1901 they are in Glamorgan South Wales.

Richard Bold - 1871 is a boarder in Ilminster. 1873 marries Ann. 1881/1891/1901 they are in Ilminster.

George Bold - 1871 is a boarder in Ilminster. Follows Albert to South Wales. 1877 marries Ann. 1881/1891/1901 they are in Glamorgan South Wales.

Ellen Webb - 1871 is a boarder in Ilminster. Changes name to Bold. 1881/1891 in Taunton. 1897 marries John Clements. 1901 they are in Taunton.

Walter Webb - 1871 in the Workhouse. 1881 in Hawkchurch Dorset (Louisa is a short distance away).
I am not personally connected to the Bold family.
I am doing research on behalf of someone else.
It's a bit complicated but what i have found are six illegitimate children born to a Louisa Webb in Ilminster.
They appear on the 1861 census with the name Webb then vanish.
They reappear on the 1871 census with the name Bold.
Their father appears to be Louisa's employer.
To find if your Richard is one of these children,
you need to get his marriage certificate which will give his fathers name and occupation.
Then look up Richard Webb on the 1861 census and see if his fathers details match those given for the head of household.
If it is the same then i have a little more info i can share.
If its not then we are looking at different families.
Good Luck

Thank you so much for your reply I am sure these are the same people. The dates vary a little but I have been using various census which do vary a little. Ellen Maud was my Grandmother who married Samuel Trott and I was named after my great, great aunt Rosina. I know very little about them
apart from the fact that all the children were born in Illminister. We went to Illminister last year to have a look round which was facinating.

What is your connection to the family?
Any information you can give me would be gratefully received.
Once again thank you for your time in reply to this post.
Regards
Ros Cornford.

He had 3 children with first wife Katharina Elisabetha Weller and 10 with 2nd wife Theresia Eckel. Check out the family tree - title is: "Joe Schmitt's research on Bold Family". Alexander married Helen and had a daughter named Susan.

The scrapbooks and photos are amazing - there's a lot of history here and it is sad to think that it could end up in the garbage.

If these could be of any help to you, please let me know.
