On the list of the slain there is a Bonaventure. It is in my family records that it was Louis Denis Bonaventure. I recently came across information saying that it was his son Nicolas Bonaventure who was slain, but can not get in contact with the man who put this information on his site. Does anyone know anything about this? email me at emilymanger@yahoo.com.
Francois Bonaventure, early settler of Ouachita Valley, LA

There is some interesting reading about Francois Bonaventure who was one of the earliest settlers of the Ouachita Valley, Louisiana. It is believed that he operated a trading post on the east bank of the Ouachita River and Bayou Bartholomew in the 1770-1780 decade in what is now known as Point Pleasant in Morehouse Parish. More details of his life, his ancestry and his descendants can be found in the Encyclopedia of Founding Families of the Ouachita Valley of Louisiana, 1785 to 1850.

I am interested in finding family information on PAULIN and Eloise Gauthier BONAVENTURE. I have only a few names of their children Marie Innocente, Clara Marie, Francois,Marie Rosella, Homer, there were more, but I am not sure of the spellings....

ANY reply to this posting concerning the family of BONAVENTURES would be appreciated.... all of the above mentioned names were living in the years of 1830-1890 and after I am sure there are relatives still in the area of Pointe Coupee....

Thank you....
Lorinda,
I have done a lot more work on the Bonaventure name using the SSDI, obituaries, and censuses. I saw a family tree submission to Ancestry.com that had you as the daughter of Donald Ray Bonaventure, Sr., and granddaughter of Alvin and Eloise Parks Bonaventure. Yet, in your message to me (9/24/00) you say that your grandfather is Alton who married a Davis. Which of these is correct? I do have an Alton in the tree now but not an Alvin. You can e-me at cmayeux@hotmail.com and I will share all that I have.

I know the Bonaventure name from New Roads, La. They owned a big place on the river (False) when I was growing up as a kid there. I will show my mom this website this weekend and maybe she can be of some help.

Sincerely,
Benny S. Dupre
