Other than your mention of NJ, you don't give a location. So, I typed Jenny Chew born 1916 into Ancestry and up popped PA Church and Town Records
Jenny Edna Chew
b. 23 Nov 1917 bapt: 13 Jan 1918 Phila.
Mother: Jenny Chew
Father: John Edward Chew

I looked up John Edward Chew and found a WW1 draft record showing he was born July 14, 1892.

Hope this is helpful.

Bond/Chew

So up until yesterday I was under the assumption that "Bond" came from the paternal side of my family, when actually it came from the maternal side. I was researching my great grandfather, Edward E. Bond and found out he was living with a bunch of "Peaks" when he was a child along with his sister and grandmother, Louisa Bond. In my search to find out what happened to his parents, I found out that the wife of "Peak", May Peak, was actually Edward's mother and Bond was her maiden name. She apparently was married before for a few years from like 1914 to 1918 to a Chew from New Jersey. I know this because in a 1920 census it has her living with her parents, Levi and Louisa Bond and her and her children's last names were Chew still. Please if anyone has any information at all about the Chew family I may be related to, I would really appreciate it. Info I have is: Edward E. Bond (Chew) born July 24, 1917, Jennie Bond (Chew) born in 1916. May Bond (Chew) born in 1890, married a Chew in 1914. I really want to know who this Chew is and did they divorce or did he pass away or get killed in World War I. Thank you so much for your time:)

Shadrach BOND, 1751-1812, Uncle of 1st Governor of IL

Looking for information to resolve a question regarding the wife or wives of Shadrach Bond (1751-1812). This Shadrach is buried at Eagle Cliff-Miles Cemetery in Monroe County, Illinois. Some sources give his wife's name as Rachel Bond nee Gott, who is said to have died 27 March 1806, and is further said to be buried at Eagle Cliff-Miles. Other sources give his wife's name as Isabella Kyle Garretson, widow of James Garretson (or Garrison).

Two citations from Raymond G. Hammes Collection (Illinois State Archives):

"Bond, Shadrach and Isabella, his wife, sell William Oglesby's 100-a. improvement claim, confirmed by Gov. Harrison on Jan. 19, 1804, to David Phillips, St. Clair County, on May 5, 1804, for $100.00. The land is located on the main branch of Richland Creek, joining the lands of Pierre Menard on the northeast, those of Moses Short on the southwest, and vacant lands on the northwest and southeast."

"Bond, Shadrach, Sr., and Isabella, his wife, sell a 100-a. surveyed tract of land in L'eagle Twp. to Jacob Trout on Feb. 19, 1810, for $600.00 [The unusually high price is not explained.] Witnessed by J. A. Boyes and Marie Garretson. Acknowledged before John Hay, Feb. 19, 1810. Recorded by John Hay, Mar. 20, 1810."

I am having trouble reconciling these dates, names and possible marriages. It does not seem possible he could be married to Rachel up until her “death” in 1806, and then be found on land records in 1804 and 1810 with wife, Isabella. There also seems to be conflicting information for Isabella Kyle Garretson regarding her date of death – some sources give 1819, others have it much earlier. I would appreciate help from anyone who knows of further records to resolve these questions.

Are these three Bond families in Lincolnshire, England linked?

Within about a hundred years the surname Bond crops up in my ongoing Sharman Family History project three times – all in Lincolnshire. I had assumed (it seems wrongly) that there was a tie between my line of Sharmans and a single line of Bonds. These are the three links in summary:

1. Charles Sharman (1795-1847, my g.g.g.grandfather) married Jane Bond (1791-1881) at Swinstead in 1818. Jane had been born at North Witham to William and Sarah.

2. Robert Sharman (1876-1913, son of George Sharman and g.son of the above Charles and Jane) married in Louth 19th February 1906 Rebecca Mary Bond born Woodthorpe (Lincs.) 13th November 1874. Robert had emigrated to Canada in the very early 1900s, returned to England to marry Rebecca, and then took her back to Canada. Rebecca’s parents were John Bond (bap Maltby le Marsh 19th August 1798, bur Strubby 8th January 1876) and Mary née Shacketon (bap Blankney 29th December 1839). Mary remarried in 1879. Her second husband was painter and preacher George Albert Cockin.

3. Sometime in the years 1901-1905 my great-aunt Annie Sharman went to work at Partney for grocer, baker and postmaster Charles Bond (born Spilsby dist Q1 1867). Family legend had it that Charles was somehow related to the above Jane Bond, Annie’s g.grandmother). However, Charles’s parents were Robert Bond (born Monk Soham, Suffolk c1843) and Charlotte (born Ipswich c1844).

So these three lots of Bonds seem unconnected. If you know otherwise, please get in touch.

N.B. I have much more on many of the above, so please don’t waste time in unnecessary research. However, I would be delighted if anyone knows a link between these three seemingly separate Bond families.
Figured you were aware of this information, the next step of course would be to check 1880 census records for adjacent counties,

Anne Arundel County (north)
Prince George's County (northwest)
Charles County (west)
Dorchester County (east)
Talbot County (east)
St. Mary's County (south)

Generally, family stayed near each other. Maybe they were in one of these other counties. Also, since they are so close to Baltimore, they may be connected to the Bond's of Baltimore which includes the author of "The Story of the Bond's of Earth" book, Dr. Allen Kerr Bond. If you find a link to them, I have a scanned copy of the book in PDF format will email no charge upon request.
Thanks for all the info. Yes I do know about the Bowens and Sterling connection. As for Estelle Bond, I'm really having a hard time figuring if Estelle Susan is her real name. My dad and his cousin always referred to her as Essie. On the later cencus she is also listed as Essie. I was given some info from my Dad that his cousin had started around 10 or 15 years ago. Unfortunately she has passed away, so I can't ask her. She listed her by Estelle Susan Bond born June 12 1876 in Maryland. Either her name is not right or maybe she was born elsewhere. I did see the cencus you were referring to about Benson Bond and Mary Danley. That's a good possibility. I know that something is off, just need to figure out what or where. But thanks for looking into it for me.

Did a short research regarding your inquiry. I have 4 different Bond lines in my tree (1,392 Bond names), including my Bond family line. I didn't find Estelle Susan in my tree and most of the Bond's I have from Maryland are either from Cecil County or Harford County, Maryland. I see that Isaac Sterlings mother is a Bowen, and in following census records I refer to, there are Bowen family in large numbers in Calvert County. Now regarding Bonds, I went through all the census records available on Ancestry. There is no Estelle or Susan Bond listed. Was she missed in the census or living in another nearby county in 1880? Possibly. I do have a possibility though.

Right off, of all the Bonds listed in all Calvert County, one can be eliminated as a relative or having a family connection and that is Elizabeth Bond on page 13 of the 34th Enumeration Dist. of Dist. 2 as she is listed as a black girl working as a servant to the Goman Family and is 22 yrs old. So now to the Bonds who probably are family to Estelle.

1880 US Fed. Census
Enumeration Dist. 33 of Dist. 1 in Calvert County, MD

Page 12, family # 84
Consists of John L. Bond age 24 born Maryland
wife Annie age 24 " "
Nanna C. age 2 " "

No other Bonds are listed, so if she is in Calvert County and in these census records, I would guess that your birthdate might be off a little and that could suggest that the unnamed female 1 year old listed in family #150 of Benson Bond and Mary Danley could very well be her, although a guess. The other possiblity is that the last family listed, #248, could be using the nickname Nanna for Susan or Susanna. This is less likely, but possible. If Estelle is from Calvert County, then all the Bonds listed above in census records are her family in whatever configuration of grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts. Like a puzzle, have to put the pieces together. But with cross referencing the names and births of those above, may be able to figure that out.

Also, your Isaac T. Sterling family is listed,
Enumeration Dist. 35, District 2, Calvert County

page 23, family #205
Isaac T. Sterling age 39 born Maryland
wife Priscilla age 35 " "
Delilah A. age 14 " "
Henry W. age 12 " "
Isaac T. age 6 " "
William D. age 5 " "
Alice G. age 1 " "
brother-in-law Charles B. Bowen age 20 born Maryland.

Hope this helps in your search, you may already know of all this info, although I didn't see any census records attached on your tree for them. Providing for you just in case you weren't aware of it. Unfortunately with the fire in 1890 distroying most of US Fed. Census records, can't do a search there, as a followup, but with some of the info of other Bond family, you may be able to get more with further research using what's here.

Gene Bond

Hi Laurie!
I was reading your post and was fascinated! I was stolen from my father by my mother when I was two years old. As I grew up, I was fed lies about him and my family when I questioned why my last name differed from my step father. After my first daughter was born, I found my father....one year after he passed. So, I do not know how or where to begin on finding out THE TRUTH of who I am and where I come from. I have nothing to pass on to my two daughters about their family history other than the lies. Any help ideas??

I was refering to the post you made in 2010 in the message boards. It was nice of you to post that message. I have put it on my tree Blackaby-Bond Connection. My father was -Golden Rex, son of William , son of James, son of Joshua, son of Benjamin, son of Samuel, son of Richard Clayton Bond 1728-1819, son of Samuel, son of Richard Cox Bond, son of William bond 1620. That is going back up the tree. Perhaps we are kind of related, which I call"talking cousins" Lavania

Lavania,

Ancestry.com sent me your reply, but I don't know what message you are replying to. The Bond connection to the Mayflower is through Richard Clayton Bond, III (1790-1866, son of Richard Clayton Bond, Jr and Mary Brumfield) and his wife Prudence Powers, daughter of William D. Powers and Hannah Stout. Richard & Prudence had 14 children, so there are many who are direct descendants of Edward Fuller & his wife from the Mayflower through these children. I descend from their son Bloomfield Claston Bond. I am a member of The General Society of Mayflower Descendants, CA Chapter, and they have approved my line as a direct descendant. If I can help you or any others out there trying to prove their Bond line, please feel free to contact me.

Linda Wilhoyte

The Bond Brothers of Saline County, Illinois 1870

The 1870 federal census lists three Bond men whom I suspect were brothers. They were HENRY, his wife NANCY (KEONS), and their son, Albert 1869; JOHN M.C., and his wife ANNIE (MCFADDEN); and GEORGE W.. They all lived together and lived in Saline County, Illinois.
I know JOHN eventually lived in Calhoun County, Illinois because his daughter, IDA, was born there. Other than knowing who IDA married and all of her descendents, ANNIE'S death info, etc.,I can find nothing more on JOHN. Can anybody help on this? I have checked multiple records in Illinois and Missouri. Thanks.

His father is shown as John Bond (no Henry in the middle). I also have the birth certificate of his daughter Martha Emmeline Eliza Bond and again her father is shown only as John Bond and her mother is shown as Martha Bond, formerly Wyer. Martha Bond was my grandmother.

Will help with any information you would like if I am able.

Regards,

Jean (Elaine's mum)
