Re: Bonds Indian Heritage/AL/GA

I know these posts are old, but I hope some of you are still out there. My gr-gr-grandmother was Rebecca “Becky” BONDS (at least that’s what Becky’s daughter told her daughter (Mattie Moore Gipson) who told her daughter (my grandmother, Mollie Belle Gipson Thrash) Archibald Judge MOORE and Becky raised their family in Randolph County, Alabama, 1870 forward. Randolph County is on the Alabama/Georgia line. Mattie also told my grandmother that she (Mattie) was one quarter Indian. I can find no proof of this, but if true I think it might have been through the BONDS line. I can’t be sure, but I think I found Becky in the following BONDS family in 1860 in Randolph County, Alabama. Her age is about right and on the 1870 census A. J. and Rebecca Moore are listed in household 303 and in household 304 is Nancy Bonds (with 2 children). Coincidence? I don't think so.

1860 census, Randolph County, Alabama, Northern Division, Page No. 66, Rockdale Post Office, enumerated July 30, 1860:

Assemith Bonds, age 40, female, domestic housewife, Value of real estate is $100, value of personal estate $60, born Georgia
Nancy Bonds, age 15, female, domestic housewife, born Georgia
Rebecca Bonds, age 13, female, born Georgia
Note 1: Color was left blank
Note 2: I can find no other record of Assemith BONDS

I also found the following, but don’t know if this is my Becky. Maybe it will help someone else.

1850 census, Heard County, Georgia, 41st District, enumerated October 26, 1850,
Dwelling 471:
James J. Bonds, age 32, male, farmer, $100, born Georgia,
Cyne (can’t tell is this is Cyne or Cyre), age 29, female
Mary A. E., age 9, female
Nancy J, age 7, female
Rebecca L. C. (or S.C.?), age 4, female
Babe, age 1, female

Any connections? Can anyone shed light on my BONDS? Thanks.

I don't have an answer for you. Will get back to you if I find one. I am searching for a Lance Curtis Bonds whose grandfather happens to be Albert Walter. Since my mother is a Bonds we thought there might be a connection. Haven't found one yet but a possibility. My connection is through Pope Co., Arkansas. This helps in Lance's search.

Hi Pat, This is exciting. On Sarah Elizabeth Fleming I have nothing at this time. Did'nt follow up on anything in Illinois. Have no backgrouns on A.W. except that he died rather early leaving four children: Lance's father Franklin Curtis and siblings Louis Lean and Woodrow W. A.W. Jr must have been working. Just finished searching cemeteries for Zack and Sarah. Didn't find anything. Already have that on A.W.

Looking for children of above referenced Gipson, who's family lived in Piedmont, Alabama. His father was Albert Ross Gipson (1890-1962) married to Mary Claudia Johnson - "Hattie" (1893-1962) in 1911 in Calhoun County, Alabama. His siblings were Elsie Christine, Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie", Jessie Willie, Nora and Rush Ollie Gipson.

James A. Gipson married Virginia Rose Cohee in May of 1949 and his firstborn, Teresia Kay Gipson arrived in September of 1949. James & Virginia moved to Georgia shortly after the birth of Teresia. They were divorced May of 1951, with Virginia (& Teresia)returning to the Cohee family in Piedmont.

It is believed that James lived mostly in Georgia after the divorce. He remarried and had a number of children (names unkn), all born after 1952.

If you have knowledge of any children of James A.
I'm acutally leaning to the William Dudley Bonds connection.
This is mainly because of location. Wm Dudley was married
to Frances Meredith in Lousia Virginia in 1780. These
tidbits of info may prove to be a dead end, but I'll
trudge on and see what I find. Thank you and am happy to
find someone else digging for clues.
I was fascinated by the Native American thing, as many
years ago someone hinted that there was Indian blood in the
lineage.??
Dinah B.
Andrew Turner Bonds was the son of William Turner Bonds and Naomi Gray.Andrew was born in SC around 1820.William was born in Sc in 1801,Naomi was born in SC in 1804.They were married there in 1819 and moved to Pickens Co' Al in 1827 with 3 children.Andrew married Dinah Jones and they moved to Franklin Co Al. in 1845.They are both buried there in the Bonds Cemetery. Naomi's (wife of William Turner Bonds)parents were William and Sarah Gray of the Newberry-Laurens area of SC.I don't know who William's parents are.Recently, I've been looking at the possibility of him being Dudley Bonds son.A few things and dates fit into William Turner Bonds' time line.
It is possible that John Bonds may be related to Wiliiam Bonds line.
James Bonds

Her father was Edward Nicholson.
Thank you for your response.
Dinah Bonds McNeil

Okay, here's some of the info I have on A. W(Albert W.)Bonds..He was Born 6 Oct 1881 in Arkansas. His father was Z. M. Bonds, born 12 Oct 1853 in Arkansas. Mother Sarah(Sallie) E Fleming, born 14 Nov 1862 in Arkansas, died 31 Dec 1942 in Texas, is buried in the Killeen City Cemetery, Tx with one of her other sons Zach Marvin born 12 Aug 1897. He was a vet of the Navy and died 20 Jul 1926 in American Samoa. Albert W was the City Marshall of Rogers, Texas and later became the Sheriff of Bell County. This is where the fun started! He had to hang to prisoner(last public hanging in Bell Co.) but A. W. thought he was innocent. Was very hard on him. Later when he lost the sheriff election there was a lot of tension between the new sheriff and him. They ended up killing each other(Fisher family finished off A. W in May 11 1927. I have a lot of info on this and would be very happy to share with you. Z.M. is buried in a paupers grave in Reeds Lake Cemetery, according to family member. If you would give me your address I will send all the info I have on the family including birth, marriage and death etc. I am leaving for Salt Lake City to do research next week and hope to find more! Z. M and Sarah were married in 22 Nov 1888 in Chickasawaba Twnsp,Mississippi County, Ark..W. D. Bonds(Z.M father) married Charity S. Clark on 9 Jan 1843 in McCracken County Ky..My understanding is, He was a Blacksmith, Z.M. worked on the river. they moved to Arkansas then to Illinois and back to Arkansas and then to Texas. This is where the research for me has been difficult. My grandfather William Delbert(son of Z.M.) was the only one born in California 5 Nov 1885. Let me know.It sounds like we are related..Yippeee..my email is pkb09037@comcast.net

Do you know anything about Sarah Fleming Bonds' husband? I understand from my dad that they did live in Illinois and Arkansas..I am trying to sort this out. It surely sounds like we are searching the same family, as my grandfather was the brother of Albert Walter Bonds(1881-1927)who had a son A.W...Pat
My original post was very vague. I am very much interested in learning about my families history. My uncle made a family tree before he died but it has seemed to "disappear". I know for fact that I am black and native American (Blackfoot more specific The Blood tribe I do believe). . Also I'm in VA and alot of Bonds are Bedford, VA

BONDS, born 1872, his wife was CALLIE WILLIAMS, AKA CAROLINE WILLIAMS, born in Georgia, April 1878. Have very little info on Callie, desperatley searching info on her, she would be my great grandmother. Trail runs cold with Callie, have no parental info on her. Parents on JAMES W.
