Page 212,
"Portrait of Solomon Bonner(1824-1890)" Morgantown, W.V. 1958.
Page 213,
"Chapter XIV, THE BONNER FAMILY,
At present the Bonner family is widely spread throughout the country. Originally it is derived from an English, Scotch, and German ancestry. However the German line largely predominates, having come from the provinces of the Palatinate on the Upper Rhine River.
The religious wars that had invaded that land left the survivors demoralized and the land desolate. The burning of the cities, and towns, and villages left teh people in poverty, hunger, and without shelter. The rural region had to bear the same destress. Homes and barns were burned, crops cut down, and stock driven away. The people fled and took refuge in forests, marshes, and caves. Many of those who escaped fire and sword, perished in the snow of the frigid winters. This calamity went on till seventy-five percent of the people had perished, sixty-six percent of the buildings burnt, and about eighty-two percent of the horses and cattle were driven away.
The people who dwelt in that unfortunate land had descended from the Rheinfranken or the Franks, and the Alemmani. In them were found the best qualities of their race, having been distinguished by their industry, independence, and integrity."

BONNER, Catherine or Katherine, Michigan about 1890

Looking for info on a Catherine Bonner who married Samuel Clement Dehetre (Deshetres) about 1890 and whose daughter Marie married my grandfather Leon Ernest Talbot on August 22, 1911 at Assumption Church in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The families were French but I have been unable to find her in the usual places and I have no data on her.

Marie Dehetre was born about 1891 in Detroit and died in Windsor, Ontario in 1929. I suspect that Catherine Bonner died about 1891 when Marie was born. It appears that Sam then married a Rosalie Schroeder who gave birth to son Robert H. in 1892 or 1893 (died in 1980 in Detroit) and possibly another son Jacques (James) in 1897. Sam was a carpenter living at 860 Scotten, Detroit, in 1890 as appears in the 1890 Detroit City Directory with relatives. He moved back to Windsor in 1898 and married Josephine Talbot. He died in 1942 in Windsor. Other relatives of Sam in Detroit were as follows:

Albert Dehetre carpenter 140 Brandon avenue Detroit MI 1890, 1891
Arthur Dehetre carpenter boards 860 Scotten avenue Detroit MI 1890, 1891
Benjamin Dehetre Mavnard & Co cabtmkr boards 310 Antietam Detroit MI 1890, 1891 (Not sure Benjamin is related)
Henry Dehetre carpenter 716 Scotten avenue same Detroit MI 1890, 1891
Peter Dehetre carpenter 860 Scotten avenue Detroit MI 1890, 1891
Samuel Dehetre carpenter boards 860 Scotten avenue Detroit MI 1890, 1891

Any help would be appreciated!
I was an excellent track athlete in high school and college. Once while at race at A&M I was running the mile. It was my first time in college to be leading the pack of runners. While in the front I was feeling strong and proud until the announcer said very loudly over the intercom "and Robert BONER is now in the lead". The crowd started laughing. I wish I could say i remained in first and it was a great victory. But alas, and skinny dark guy from Kenya whipped my butt. hahaha

Any one elese have a funny Boner story??

Does anyone know about John Bonner/Boner and Sarah Crookshank? I found a family tree in a book called Merry Olde Middlesex (--that would be Middlesex Twp, Bulter Co. PA) that indicates Sarah was the daughter of Andrew and Nancy Foreman Crookshanks. As we have only found 8 of their 10 children, I have no idea if this is correct. The chart says she married a John Boner. I found a record stating that Rev Abraham Boyd married a John Bonner and a Sarah Crookshank in Apr. 1846. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!

James Bonner, born about 1930s, died 1980s in MS

Hello folks, I'm trying to trace a line in my family tree that has stumped me for months. I'm hoping someone hear can recognize and assist me with this line.

I'm looking for the parents, siblings, or other family of my paternal grandfather, James Bonner. He was born in the 1930s or 40s approximately, and died in the mid 1980s (I'm not sure of the exact date -- my mother took me to his funeral when I was a baby, and told me later that I attempted to climb in the coffin with him :-/).

According to my father, Edwin, he came from a big family of about fifteen children, but as a teenager his family was split up for some reason and he moved to Mississippi. He married Linnie, the daughter of Clifford Brown and Lela Armstrong, and they had two children, my father and his sister. James died of liver cancer.

Please, does anyone know of this line? It's one of my more elusive ones, and try as I might, I can't seem to crack it. My dad doesn't remember much more, though he did say James only kept in touch with one of his sisters, who died a while back. Any takers...?

I think there are a lot of mis-spellings in this book.
as I have looked through it, I have seen Bonney, I believe to be a Bonner as entry just before Flanakin, I believe should have been spelled Flanagan, listed in Princess Anne County, page 61, 1783. Also seen a Reuben Bonar listed in Monongalia County, I think should be Bonner.
There is some Bonner family listed, Ann, Thomas, William, and William. Thomas is listed as having nine(9) in family.
One William Bonner is listed on page 69, Hampshire County, on the "List of Job Welton", with six"(6) in family.
Have seen Bonny, Bonney, Bones, Boner, Bonn, Barns, Barn, I believe to be mis-spellings of Bonner

"Page Four"
"The Sheriff Desserts the Fort"
"He's a new Sheriff but he gave up the fort. That's a joke after a fashion. The new Sheriff of Wetzel County is Shannon Westerman. He and his wife, in moving to the Sheriff's quarters, have given up their 1776 home, which was one of the first forts built along the Ohio, and is chuck full of valuable papers, documents and other historic items. Presley Martin, the man who gave New Martinsville it's name, was born here."

Went to the hospital to see Glenn Hunter concerning records of the Forks of the Cheat Baptist Church. These records start 1775 and run continuously to the present. when he returns to the church will request the official board to give the records to the Virginia Archives. This is brother Gordon Lambert's birthday, his 67th year. Seems only a short time since we were children at home."

I need help finding the Bonner Cemetery near Conyers GA. It is marked well on the map, seems to be rather large but I have walked the woods and cannot find it. Does anyone know exactly where it is? That's the way it is with cemeteries -- sometimes you have to have someone take you by the hand and say "see -- there it is!" If I find it I will transcribe it and post it.

I am looking for the connection between John Albert Hastey and Mollie E Bonner and evidence of that connection. Were they married? If so, when? Do we have documents, Bible pages, or anything? Do we have documents showing any children they may have had? I've seen them in one family tree but I need something showing their children. I can make assumptions and probably some backward deduction about this but I would rather have some sort of documents. Thanks.
Mark Burford
Dalton, GA

FIRST BONNERS TO ARRIVE IN PENNSYLVANIA

Page 215 of HISTORY OF THE LAMBERT FAMILY With Information on the Bonner, Bright, Carr, and Yokum Families by Oscar Doane Lambert,Ph.D.,Dean of West Virgina Wesleyan College for almost fifteen years, Teacher, Author, Historian.
"On November 25, 1740, the ship Loyal Judith from Rotterdam anchored in port at Philadelphia, having on board a cargo of immigrants, who had been taken on ship in the Palatinate. Among the number to arrive was Casper Bonner. He took the oath of allegiance to the British government, which was a requirement of all non-English immigrants, and signed his name to the register. On that date he was twenty years of age, which makes his birth year 1720.1"(((Footnote 1)))" 1. Pennsylvania Archives, 2nd series, XVII, 201."
"After tarrying for a time in Pennsylvania, Casper Bonner set out with that memorable migration of Germanpeople to find homes south of the Potomac. The next notice of him taken is that he purchased a farm from Lord Fairfax in Fredrick County, Virginia. His land lay along Toms Creek, which became a part of Brkeley County when it was formed in 1772.2 At the time he made the transfer of location, he had taken part in the frontier warfare and had achieved the rank of corporal."
(((Footnote 2)))
"2. Land Records of Berkeley County, Book R, p. 112."
"On May 2, 1779, this frontiersman acquired another boundary from Fairfax, this one amounting to three hundred sixt-five acres. In part the title stated:"I do give, grant and confirm to Gasper Bonner, of Berkeley County, a certain tract of waste and ungranted land (three hundred sixty-five acres in Berkeley County) on some drains of the Potomac."
(((Footnote *)))
"* Note the irregular spelling."
"From the best available sources it appears that the sons of Casper Bonner came west to the Monongalia Valley with Zackwell and David Morgan, who had been their neighbors in Berkeley. It is recorded that Reuben Bonner was stationed at Prickett's Fort, Monongalia County, June 12, 1777.4 On October 8, 1788, the following entry was made: "Surveyed for Reuben Bonner four hundred acres of land in Monongalia County adjoining land of Morgan Morgan in right of residence including his improvement made in the year 1773, agreeable to a certificate from the commissioner, for adjusting the claims to unpatented lands in
((page 215 ends here, Footnote 3.= same as 2.,Footnote 4. "4. Virginia in the Revolution, by McAllister, 231."
begin page 216))
the counties of Monongalia and Ohio, dated 19th of February 1782."5 There is no question, in the opinion of the writer that Reuben Bonner was the son of Casper, the immigrant."
"The following evidence is given to sustain this opinion, location of home, family names, and relationship with families in Berkeley County. It has been related that Reuben Bonner migrated with the Morgans to the Monongalia Valley. The names of his children were Casper, John, Joseph, Katherine Strain, Susan Saremore, Mary Gibson, Margaret Harmeason, Elizzabeth Miller, and Charlotte Sterne.(married names of daughters)."
"The name of the wife of Casper,Jr., was Sarah. Their children were Reuben, Nancy Anne, Mary, Rebecca, Ora, Sarah, Eliza, and Emma. His will was probated August 20, 1820. Reuben went to Kentucky, where he was residing in 1810. He being the only male child of Casper,Jr., closed that line of the family, in western Virginia. The writer has not found any record of his returning to his native state. The home of Casper was located along the Tygart Valley River."
"On August 24, 1785, a survey of four hundred acres, east of the Monongalia River, was made in Monongalia County, for John Bonner, brother of Casper,Jr. It appears that the land conveyed to him was a military grant for services rendered...

He lived on White Day Creek, Monongalia County. His children were Mary Stack, Catheerine Swisher, Elizabeth Swisher, Joseph, John, Casper, Margaret Leah, Henry, and Ruth A. Staysn. He had served in the Pennsylvania militia, and achieved a grant of 500 acres for it."
"This is a brief summary of the line of Casper Bonner, among the first of his family to arrive in Pennsylvania from German Palatinate."
(((End of page 216,more later)))

Does anyone have info on Eliza--especially on who her parents were? I have hit a brick wall with her. The Bowser family history book shows David Toy married Eliza Bonner An 1850 census search shows an Eliza Boner, either 14 or 16, living with John and Nancy McGarvey in Franklin, Armstrong Co, PA. She was the only one I could find, and I have no idea if she was related to the McGarveys.

Hoping that someone out there can help me in my search information on Thomas Bonner and his wife Elizabeth Dolley(Dolly) from Souldern Oxfordshire.( I have some informaiton on Elizabeth's family)

They were married on the 14th June 1786 in the Parish Church after Banns. Richard Bonner (could he be a father or brother of Thomas) and Elizabeth Wooton were witnesses.

From the information that I have Thomas and Elizbeth had a family of seven daughters, Ann, Mary, Hannah who married Richard Gurden, Esther, Catherine, Sarah, Rebecca who married John Stayton (they had no children).

I am descended from Hannah and her Husband Richard Gurden so I have information on their descendants but can find nothing on the other sisters.

I am hoping that someone out there can help me add to the jigsaw.

Just a quick hello to you all......Your family is a known sept of the Graham Clan and the name Bonner was once very common throughout Scotland. From the old French 'bonair' meaning gentle or courteous. One of the first known Bonars was Thomas Bonar who was a witness in Aberdeen, 1281. Linked to the clan since 1507......Yours Aye, Cam. (Cameron Graham of the Clan Graham Association of Scotland).

Oscar Doane Lambert,Ph.D. states on page 213, of his book printed in 1957, HISTORY OF THE LAMBERT FAMILY With Information on the Bonner, Bright, Carr, and Yokum Families, Publishers Whitney & White, Morgantown West Virginia,"At present the Bonner family is widely spread thoughout the country. Originally it is derived from an English, Scotch and German ancestry. However the German line largely predominates, having come from the provinces of the Palatinate on the Upper Rhine River."
Page 214,"The great immigration lasted nearly a hundred years. From 1683 to 1774. During that period it is estimated that 100,000 Germans and Swiss entered Pennsylvania. This hardy, intelligent people became the ancestors of numerous American families, among whom was the Bonner family."

Henry Bonner in 1910 Arkansas Census- Help!

I need help finding Henry Ossman Bonner in 1910 Arkansas census. He is listed in both the 1900 and 1920 Logan County Arkansas census. His residence in both is listed as Petite Jean, Logan County, Arkansas. But I can't find him in Petite Jean in 1910.

His wife was Millie Coverson. In the 1920 Census he was listed as having the following children: Nora E. (b. 1905), Seretha G (b. 1907), Henry C. (b. 1909), Ruth A. (b. 1912), Jame E. (b. 1914), David T. (b. 1916), Lester R. (b. 1919). This is important because my wife insists that there wasn't a Nora or Seretha in the family. They both should show up on the 1910 census along with Henry C.

If anyone can help me out here, please I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Abigail, wife of Thomas Bonner

I'm researching Abigail, wife of Thomas Bonner 1690-1765 of Beaufort Co NC. Does anyone have any recent discoveries?

There have long been many guesses as to her maiden name and parents: could be Abigail Daw, daughter of Nicholas Daw and Abigail Wallis; or Abigail Jones, daughter of Edward Jones; or Abigail Butt, daughter of Richard and Dinah Butt; or that she was a Bryan(t). I don't know where these guesses came from...

I have done some digging on each of these specific families, and I believe it's safe to say that none of the first three are correct:

Our Abigail was born c.1694, and had children born c1714, 1715, 1719.

For DAW -- It looks like Abigail Wallis's father William was born c1673, and so Abigail (wife of Nicholas Daw) could be born as early as 1690, or maybe as late as 1730 -- regardless, this is too late to be the mother of Abigail, wife of Thomas Bonner.

For JONES -- The IGI says this Abigail Jones is born 1694. However, Thomas and Abigail were already married for several years when Edward's will was written 1718, and he names his daughter as Abigail Jones, not Bonner.

For BUTT -- If Richard was born c1688 according to posts on Rootsweb, then his daughter Abigail would be born at a minimum around 1705/1715, or later according to Richard's marriage date of 1729, too late to be Abigail, wife of Thomas Bonner.

So I'm going with the theory of "Bryan(t)" as this doesn't yet have attached parents. Of course, she could still be a Daw, Butt, or Jones - just not the parents suggested above.

Ray
www.gurganus.org

Bonner in Florida

My name is Alicia. I am new at geneology. I am trying to trace the roots of my family.
I have had little contact with them in my life and would like to learn more about them.
I am the grand daughter of Ida Pearl Smith. This is her married name. She was married
before to a man with surname Bonner. They had 2 sons - David and Michael Paul Bonner.
I am not sure of her birth name. I do have her social security number. She died in
Jay Florida about 1993(?) I think - the early 1990's anyway. Any help would be greatly
appreciated in establishing my familial roots.
