Hi Debra,

I am also looking for information on this line of my family. My great grandmother was Bertha Books McIntyre and great great grandmother was Martha Bennette Books. I have reached a dead end with Martha Bennette so far. Thomas Books was an orphan and they moved with most of the family to Bastrop, La to work at the International Paper Company Mill that was newly opened. Take a look at my tree for more information.

I found a photo in my grandmother's album that states "Grandchildren of Christ(Christian)Raver.Julie Books' kids.
I can't find any record of Uncle Christ having a daughter named Julie - only a son named Wavel.
The photo is old- probably before 1900.There are three children-2 girls standing on either side of a baby sitting in a chair.They are outside in front of a log/wooden wall.
Christian is the son of George Raver and Catherine Welty.(My grandmother was his sister-in-law.)

I live in Montreal Quebec but was born and lived in Rainy River, Ontario until I was 12. I have gone back for visits several times over the yeara. My mother was the youngest of 8 girls so I still have first and second cousins living in Rainy. I am 82 years old and quite proficient on the computer. I have joined Ancestry about two months ago so I am not too good at it yet. I am good at e-mails and putting attachments on but I haven't figures out yet how to work this type of e-mail. I have found three different ones to type a message back and forth so am now getting a bit confused. I found great grand father's data on Roots Web World Connection Books family tree a few years ago. It stated that Daniel D. Books wife name was Margaret Brandt. A cousin of mine who lives in Rainy just e-mailed me a copy of Daniel's death certificate. He died 19-02-1937 in Rainy River. I was 9 years old so I remember him well. I have many pitures taken with him. On the death certificate he states his mother's name as Margaret Hyde. His father George J. Books.both born in Pennsylvania. It would be easier for me to communicate with you on e-mail, if you would care to exchange e-mail addresses. I have one one more person looking for information on David. Another person, a grandchild of my Aunt Emma is looking for information on the Books also. I will get this all sorted out soon hopefully. Yes, we are distant cousins. I am descended from George and Margaret's eldest son Jacob, his son Thomas whose daughter is my mother, Madge who is 93 and still living.

I would love to have any information you have on Daniel's family and pictures, too!

I also have pictures and much information on the Books' families.

When we began our research, we didn't know that Margaret's last name was Brandt. After putting a lot of research together, we came up with that conclusion. How did you find out that Margaret's last name was Brandt? I am always interested in source documents.

I am the great granddaughter of Daniel D. Books and Julietta
Wood. He had two children . Winnifred, a daughter , and AAndrew Clarence a son. My grandfather was Clarence who married Susan Eastman.They moved from Minnesota to Rainy River, Ontario Canada in 1916.The had three children George, Robert and Emma. George is my father. I have all the dates and many pictures, if you are interested.

Daniel died in Rainy River, Ontario 19-02-1937
He married Julietta Wood in Knapp County Wisconsin on 01-07-1879. Julietta was also known as Elta Wood

This is a cousin. My mother, Virginia Eva Books is your great aunt, a sister to your grandfather Freemont Books. I saw your entry on the ancestry.com message boards. I have quite a lot of information on the Books line back to PA. I have corresponded with the Books lines in Elkhart, IN and Wi. The WI lines are from the Elkhart, IN lines. I haven't as of yet, been able to connect the lines to ours. I am interested in exchanging information and combining our efforts to connect with the other lines. the second battalion of the Third Regiment, were married yesterday at the
home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. VANCE, 4329 Summit
Street. The ceremony was at 4:30 o'clock. Only immediate friends
attended. The Rev. Frank G. SMITH, pastor of the First Congregational
Church officiated.

Immediately after the wedding dinner, Major CONGDON rejoined his
command. If the Third Regiment is called for foreign service,
Mrs. CONGDON will accompany her husband to the field headquarters,
he said last night.

Hi Jane! All I know at this moment is that Jacob and Sarah (Books) Fisher had a daughter Mary born to them August 25, 1839. Jacob was a native of Lancaster Co PA and Sarah a native of Dauphin Co PA both were of German descent. Mary married Levi Swank February 10, 1859 in Montgomery Co Ohio. They were my gg grandparents. That would make Jacob and Sarah my ggg grandparents. Am searching on more info. The Sarah couldn't be the same as Mary was born in 1839 and you said that George and Margaret moved to Montgomery Co Ohio in the 1830's.

Maybe we will have some more response.

I will have to find Jean Harner's email address. She is researching the same family which we feel may be connected to our Books' family. They lived so close in Indiana that it seems very feasible that they were descended from the same Books' family in Pennsylvania. As I mentioned before, my George J. Books was born in Pennsylvania between 1800-1803 then moved to Ohio and on to Northern Indiana by 1850. Whitley County is quite close to Miami County, where I believe your Books' family settled.

Jean has wanted to hook up with our Books' line for a long time. We have been unable to go back far enough to see if there was a common relative. Our George was born 1800-1803 and your George was born 1818. Our family moved to Ohio from PA and I don't know about yours.

You might do a search in the different databases for Jean's name. I wish I knew another way to get in contact with her. If you look up your George's name in some of the genealogy groups, you will likely run into her.

George J. Books was born between 1800-1803 in Pennsylvania. He married Margaret and moved near the Dayton, Ohio area. They lived in Ohio for the births of the following known children:

1. Elizabeth Books b. bet. 1825-1829. Died 1901 in Indiana. Married Solomon Carpenter. Known children are Charles Monroe Carpenter and Stephen Carpenter.

2. Susannah Books b. abt. 1833 in Ohio.

It is thought that George J. Books, Sr. married Anna Kinsey in Elkhart County in 1868 after the death of his wife Margaret.

Members of the family were of the "Dunkard" or Church of the Brethren faith.

I'm trying to tie my George J. Books to Dauphin County as well. A George Bucks married a Margaret Brandt in Dauphin County in 1827 which may tie in with my George and Margaret Books. Do you know what township your Books are from? I have no firm evidence but I do know a number of Books who use the plural Books (instead of Book) seem to have originated in Dauphin County. Also, the name has been spelled Bucks (Buck) as well.

He was the son of Frederick Douglas Books and Martha Johanna Schrader, the grandson of William Henry Books and Effie Coen, the g-grandson of David Daniel Books and Lucinda Whitehead Simpson and the g-g-grandson of George J. Books and his wife Margaret.

I descend from George J. Books' son Jacob.

Hello Patti,

I do not know if there is a connection or not but I am trying to tie my gggrandfather, George Books, to Dauphin County, PA.

George was born between 1800-1803 in Pennsylvania. I found a record where a George Bucks married a Margaret (Rebecca) Brandt in 1827 in Dauphin County. This could fit in with my George and Margaret because the timeframe is the same and the surnames Books and Bucks are often interchangeable.

George and Margaret Books moved to Montgomery County, Ohio by the 1830s and all their children were born there. By the way, they had a daughter named Sarah, too.

Do you know when Sarah and Jacob Fisher moved from Pennsylvania to Montgomery County, Ohio?

David Daniel Books, son of George and Margaret Books was born June, 1842 in Ohio and died February 8, 1924 in Rock Falls, Dunn County, Wisconsin. He married Lucinda Whitehead Simpson November 8, 1863 in Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana.

I am a descendant of David's older brother Jacob Books.

William Henry, the oldest son of David and Lucinda, was born January 16, 1865 in Goshen, IN. and died December 17, 1937 in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

William Henry was a farmer and a logger. He married Effie Lenara Coen, daughter of Charles Coen and Mary Pagen. William and Effie had 16 children. Only ten lived to adulthood.

Frederick Douglas Books, the oldest son of William and Effie was born March 11, 1889 in Porters Mills, Eau Claire County, WI and died December 9, 1972 in Mount Clemens, MI.

Frederick married Martha Johanna Schrader (Schroeder) June 1911 in Michigan.

I hope this has been helpful. Perhaps you can fill in some details on Leonard William Books for me.
