Hi there,

I recently joined Ancestry.com and came across this thread. I married into the Boothman family of Trinidad that you speak of. My husband is from the line of Trinidad Boothmans. It is a very unusual name in Trinidad and all the Trinidad Boothmans are related.

Do you have any information you can offer on the origin of the Trinidad Boothmans? Such as any names and dates when they first came to Trinidad and who the slave owner Boothmans were? Any original slave names would be a stretch I know. Any information you can offer would be appreciated.

Thanks so much.
Lesley

Hi, I'm searching for any information of my husband's Great Grandfather, Edward Duncan Boothman - born 1845. He was an Anglican minister. I have a picture of him taken in the latter part of the 1800's. He lived for a while in Cliffe Park Hall, near Rudyard Lake, Horton.
His son Victor emigrated to Canada in the 1920's with his wife and children, settling in St. Catharines, Ontario. thanks, for any help.

Thank you so much. I'm very pleased to have a copy of your ancestors' marriage certificate and proof of the living of my children's gr,gr,grandfather! The pictures of the rectory and church are also wonderful to see. I have attempted to send the 3 attachments from my iPad to my email so I can save copies to my computer but only the rectory came through. ( need to get one of my kids to help me learn how to save pictures to my iPad! lol can't figure it out - I will try later to save them from my old computer)

I would love to see your document with his handwriting, thank you for sharing this info. :)
We actually have his journal from the year 1866 when he was a 21 year old curate. The writing is so small and fine you need a magnifying glass to read it - I have no idea how he could have written it so fine with nib pen and ink!

He apparently left the church near the turn of the century and we are trying to piece together details.
It's taken a while but I've tracked my family down to the Skipton Boothmans who moved from Barnoldswick. There were a lot of them: Joseph, Thomas, William, Hannah, Mary, John & David. My ancecestor was William (b1822). In the70s I went to a Young Farmers rally and met another Amanda Boothman who was from Skipton (Weird) Now I know we are related! The Boothmans are talented horsemen has this transpired in any other Boothmans?

Amanda

Thank you for your information. I have not been able to connect my Boothman ancestors in Leeds to anywhere else. I really appreciate your input. Elizabeth Boothman was her married name. Her birth name was Elizabeth Brown and her father was James Brown. I have not been able to find a listing for her birth. She died in the USA in 1870. I am trying to connect the Boothman family first to other boothmans. Do you show any Boothmans related to Boothmans in Leeds? Again thank you for your time and effort.
James LeRoy Boothman/James Richard Lengacher

Dear Mrs Boothman,

Thank you for your note.

I'm afraid I have little to add to what you already know. I wrote to you, because I didn't know whether you were familiar with the pamphlet written by Duncan Boothman, but you mention it in your note. I found it most interesting and have included him in the second edition of my book to be published very shortly. I've also included a quotation from the pamphlet.

The pamphlet has given me some details enabling a very short pen picture of his life to be given, but I still don't know his date and place of death. Nor what he did following his conversion. Can you supply this?

Here I am asking you for information! I do apologize and am sorry for no doubt disappointing you. I would also be very grateful if you could tell me who is included in "Some Converts" and the author and date of that book. I'm sorry to burden you with this.

I'm pleased that you have brought the family back to the faith.

Oremaus pro invicem,

With every good wish,
John Beaumont
Dear John Beaumont:
Thank you, for your response and generous offer of information on Edward Duncan Boothman. I am very interested in any info you might have. He is my husband's great grandfather.
We have a major gap in our information of the family from 1903 (when EDB left the Rectory at Shelton) to the late 1930's(when his son Victor and family emigrated to Canada)
Victor, who is my husband's grandfather, gave me his father's copy of 'Some Converts' (publ.1914) in which EDB is featured in the article 'The truth shall make you free.'
It is interesting to note that the reason Victor gave me the book is because I, and my children, are the only Roman Catholics in all of EDB descendants. I married, and brought Catholicism back, into our branch of the family. Victor and his siblings had reverted back to Anglicanism sometime before leaving England for Canada. (would love to know the story there)
We have so many questions to ask about Cliffe Park Hall and EDB's first wife. And, of course his second wife from whom Victor, my husband and children descend.

Good luck with your book! and a big thank you in advance for any info on EDB you you can send our way.
sincerely,
Marg Boothman UE
Excuse my asking this (and not being a Boothman), but i suspect the Edward Duncan Boothman you refer to is the one who became a Catholic in 1903 and wrote an account of his conversion in 1906.

You may know all of this already, of course, but I'm writing a second edition of a book of mine about notable converts and came across this site.

I have much more information about this aspect of Boothman's life if you are interested.

Yours sincerely,
John Beaumont

These Boothmans, as far as I know, lived at 222 Stamford St. in Lancashire. They were painters. Seems the father was also John, without digging out papers. From what I was told, there was another brother, Tom, and a brother that was disowned, whether they are the same, I'm not sure.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for the link, I enjoyed visiting your site,
very nice!
There are also 'Boothmans' prominent in the political and founding history of Hamilton, Ontario,(a city to the west of us) No relation to us, though.
marg

p.s. and...about 10 years ago a man from England contacted us and was searching for a 'Jim Boothman' whom he had met and befriended in England during the Second World War. The only other info he had was that he thought his Jim Boothman was an American (born approx. early 1920's) who had come across the border to join the Canadian Army in 1939.
(There are no Jim/James on our side going back to 1845)
*waves bye*

Dear Jim,
I am wondering if you are the same 'Jim Boothman' whom my son John (Boothman) was speaking to recently?
We are Canadian Boothman's (Niagara Falls past 25 years)
My husband's (John David Boothman) family came over from England in approx. 1938 and settled in the Niagara area.(St.Catharines)
Here is a bit of family info I have so far:
My husband's great grandfather Edward Duncan Boothman (born 1845) was an Anglican Minister in his early life, married 2nd wife Fanny Crane (born 1868) and had children - Victor (also Mary, Theresa, Charles)
They lived for a time at 'Cliffe Park Hall', Horton, on Rudyard Lake. He purchased the property from his first wife's (Georgiana Bostock) Aunt Fanny Bostock who had inherited it from her cousin who built it in 1818.
(google search 'Horton History' and under the 'Manor and Estates' paragraphs there is interesting info of all the goings on!) Duncan Edward sold it to the railway in approx. 1903

Victor Boothman and his wife Eva (Connie) nee Baker lived for a time in Clacton on Sea, owning a small hotel there before emigrating to Canada in approx 1938.
Their children were all born in the UK and accompanied the parents to Canada:
Rene,
John Edward (my husband's father who was approx 12 yrs old)
Janet,
Margaret,

I would love to hear if you have any connection to Edward Duncan Boothman (born 1845, England)
I am just now starting on our Boothman line of genealogy.

I have concentrated the last few years on my own paternal line which includes Penniman, Stewart, Staats, Markle, Picard, Stevens, Friesman (most emigrated from Europe to America pre-revolution and then to Canada as United Empire Loyalists) My maternal line Mizero, Laube, Kereliuk emigrated to Canada (Winnipeg, Manitoba) in the first decade of the 1900's from Austria, Hungary, Poland, Belgium.

Hope to hear from you,
marg Boothman
Your A.R. Boothman sounds like my Alfred R. Boothman (also has been referred to as Albert) who was born on December 5, 1841. A younger brother to my great-grandfather William Boothman. Both were brick masons. Their mother was Elizabeth Brown and their father was Samuel Boothman married in 1829. Alfred married Mable W. Cline on August 21,1879 in Cedar, Missouri. Alfred died after 1910. I have not found where. I believe he may have lived in Arkansas.

If you are interested in more information please let me know.

Hi Jane

Just posted a reply to Amanda as I'm now certain (well 99%) that the William you mention was born 1773 in Gisburn (thanks to the 1841 census) and he was the brother of my 3th great grandfather Robert born 1770 in Gisburn. Their father was Joseph Boothman but I can't get further back than that. Will be pleased to swap information on our families.

Regards

Geoff
