We think that Grandmother Ethel was born in Tunstall and that the street name was something like Shaftsbury or Shrewsbury and was not far from a little corner hotel named "Victoria".

My wife (nee Valerie Harris) grandmother was Ethel Mouldin nee Bosson was born 25/2/1886. We understand that her older brother emigrated to NZ and once he was established in Taranaki, Ethel aged about 14 and 2 of her younger brothers were sent/emigrated to NZ (about 1900 we think).
We think that her parents came out later but are not sure of this. Her father was an artist employed in the potteries and we have a piece of his work handed down to my wife. I don't know the ages of her siblings.
Ethel's sister GraceB (married Frank Harrison) who we met with Valerie's mother, lived in New Plymouth had 2 sons, Ron and Selwyn (lives in Canada) and Ron Harrison lives in Howick (married Moia and have a daughter) and daughter Lydia (now deceased who married and had a son Craig and daughter Carolyn).
the other siblings we know of are AnnieB married ..Tukington: VioletB married ... Way and they had a son Keith who we think lives in Auckland: FredB married Alice
and we think they lived in New Plymouth: TomB understand didn't marry ad we aren't aware of his location etc: GeorgeB married Lilly and we think they lived in New Plymouth.

Re: Bosson Family New Zealand from Stoke on Trent

Hi, my Great grandmothers maiden names was Mary Bosson. She came to NZ in 1919 after WW1. Then her family came out to NZ. From vague research she had sisters Annie and Nelly and a brother Thomas, I am told a sibling was left in the UK. She had a niece Fay. I guess she came from near Stoke on Trent as she was married there as per this record: Leslie Laing married May Elizabeth Bosson at the Parish Church, Golden Hill, Stoke-on-Trent, England on 29 September 1918. May was known also as Mary. Her mother was Betsy Jessie Frances Bosson died Auckland NZ 1953, her Father was James Bosson born c1874 died Auckland NZ 1947. Glad to know if this is relevant. Thanks Wayne

Bosson family in Devon

I am researching the Bosson family from the Devon area. They lived around the barnstaple, stoke rivers, landkey, swimbridge, goodleigh and combe martin areas from about 1800 to 1870. The earliest is my 5xgreatgrandfather born about 1771 d1846, he had another relative called Thomas and they rented a farm together in the late C18th.

Anyone out there got any information they think might tie in and wish to share?

Regards,

Hello, My name is Michael Bosson and I live in Canada. I'm from the UK and my Dad still lives there. I remember his family coming from Staffordshire so I asked him about your question. This is his reply.

Dear Michael
I don't have any firm information regarding this particular section of the Bosson family but there does appear to be some interesting aspects to it.

None of what I am to relate is only what I remember from the odd remarks during my childhood nearly sixty years' ago. I understand that my father, Frank Bosson was born at Stone which is in Staffordshire. Tipton is also in Staffordshire. There were also related Bossons who lived at Bourneville which was Cadburys ' Garden Village' for their workers.

I had aunties in Canada living I believe in London Ontario !

My father's mother died in childbirth and he was brought up in Atherton by the Lancasters who were farmers. What relation these were I'm not quite sure but I always called them uncles.

In a twist of coincidence one of the Lancasters emigrated to New Zealand at the end of the 19th Cent. and lived in Dunedin. A Frank Lancaster was in the ANZAC Army and was taken prisoner in Crete - my mother used to send him Red Cross parcels when he was a prisoner of war. On repatriation he stayed with us for a short time before going to stay with his Atherton relations.

Although this doesn't help a great deal I feel that Fay Bosson would find it interesting - she can e-mail me if she wants to know anything else.

Bye for now
Love
Dad

I am surprised to learn of them - I had not heard of these Bosson's before but there must be a connection there some where. I have a lot of info. on the Bosson's who lived in White County - particularly living in Walling, Sparta, Doyle and Quebeck. Does any of this ring a bell with you? I believe that the Bosson's came to White County fro Ohio around 1820 and some are still there to this day. My line moved to Knoxville, Tn in the early 1900's. Let's continue to talk. Maybe we will figure this out.
Lin Joyce
RESEARCHING: BOSSON, Sparkman, Stewart and Dillion/Dillon in White County, TN.
