Ther is a possibility they are in the same family. Family records show immigration in the mid 18oo's.

My wifes grandmother is a Bourlier who lived in St. Clair Michigan and we are researching the Bourlier line. We have a 1926 hand written letter from a cousin who remained in France. Your Susan sounds like one of this family.

This is what I have learned about Alphonse since my original post: children Elizabeth b 1870 d 1912(my husband's ancestor), Mamie b 1871 d 1889, Robert b 1879 d 1893, Katie Belle b 1878 d 1966, Florence b 1874 d 1937, Emil b 1881 d 1942, and Aline b 1875 d 1948. Found most of their death certificates.

Alphonse's parents were Calixte b 1805 France d 1860 Louisville and Elizabeth b 1824 France d 1886 Louisville. They are buried together in Cave Hill cemetary along with Alphonse's brother Emil. Alphonse is buried in a nearby section with all of his family except Aline who is buried in still another section.

I am looking for:
- information on Calixte & Elizabeth parents & siblings as well as where they came from in France.
- information on Alphonse's brother Emil. Did he marry and have a family? Did he have something to do with Kentucky Derby like family stories say?
- information on the families of Alphonse's children Aline, Katie Belle, Emil, & Florence. Found a public family tree on Florence on Ancestry.com.

Does any of this help? Do you need my sources?

Bourlier, Emil, and Nicolas

Atop the "Osseo Ridge" in Wisconsin, northern Trempealeau Co., four miles south of Osseo,WI, there is a monument, (eight feet tall, concrete, 4000 pounds) alongside the highway, with parking space, etc.

Words on the monument include "BUENA VISTA", and "Nicolas Bourlier de la Chevalle". Nicolas lived in a dugout in the side of the ridge there, and eventually died an old man, in his dugout, winter 1891. He was buried locally, later removed and re-buried in a posh cemetery in New York City, by an Emil Bourlier.

There may be a glitch in this 100+ year-old account.

Does anyone know anything of Nicolas ?

Bill Allen, far western Wisconsin
