thank you for your msg, you will know my dad, his name is Niko - your uncle/ my grandad tunoa's eldest son. I was wondering if you know who Maria Li'o is? From what we found was that James Bourne (from ireland) married Mua Matautia. There children were Morris, James, John, Michael and elsie. All born in Vaiusu. Mua Matautia's father was Sagafili Mata'Utia.

Morris married Maria Li'o - who was born in Vaiusu, died in Savalalo. Her parents are Fa'aletonu Li'o and Gese Ieniu. There kids were Mary Bourne and James Li'o Bourne. And its there the line continues... i was talking to dad, he did say that filipo - does not carry the last name, he goes by the name filipo filipo. This was only through the family search site, of the church of the latter day saints, but without records in samoa, then we can confirm whos who, and where it all started, but the story weve been told was the two brothers who jumped ships at vaiusu

I was in contact with a relative of a Filipo Filipo, but never heard back from them lol.

Felix's wife, Zepherina is in 1901 census at Stretford, Lanc. showing birthplace Barrow in Furness which is where they married. Felix was in mariner merchant service and would have travelled extensively; he was likely not born in England (not found in 1891C & 1901C with father James) Possibly this line of Bournes were from Ireland?

Felix and Zepherina had two known children: William J C (b 1913) and Lillian V E Dec qtr 1915 Barrow F and died June qtr 1916 Barrow F.

I am also researching a James Bourne (b1792 Essex)a mariner who lived in Scarborough, Yorkshire and have details from his marriage to death but have been unable to confirm his birth/baptism in Maldon, Essex. Have found one at Mundon though but no children were named after his mother and may not be the correct entry.
Betty

I am a Bourne from my mother side- my mother is Mali (Marie) Bourne and her parents is Litia Pola from Foagapoa Savaii and Andrew Telu Bourne born in Pago Pago Tutuila. Andrew Telu Bourne with his sons work on Carruthers kerosene boat sailing between Upolu and Savaii. His father is James Bourne from Dublin Ireland (abt 1829)him and his brother landed at Vaiusu bay Faleata. We believe him and his brother jump ship and swam to Vaiusu bay and was found by the villiage and was taken under the wing of the Alo o Maliatoa "Seiuli". Connection to the "Lio" chiefly title start here. Later on his brother left samoa. My grandfather Andrew had 1 sister Mary Bourne and 2 brothers the olders is Morris Bourne and James Lio Bourne. Andrew/Litia children were Marie(f), Sisili(m),Tunoa(m), Naoupu(f), Naoupu(f), Ale(m),Lafaele(m), Faauu(m),Faamafu(m), Luisa(f), Faleniko(m)last of the children still living at present, Analosa(f)passed away 02/04/12 up north of the north island in NZ, Naotala(f). For the family info we are trying to tracy Mary family and if you are a desentant of aunty Mary Bourne (knowing as sulika or Sulita) please let me know. James Lio Bourne had 3 children-Filipo,Sakapo,Elena. Morris Bourne children-James,Michael,Elsie and John Bourne.

Hope this helps but if you have other info to our Bourne connection to James wife Mua Matautia of Vaiusu Faleata d.o.b abt1806 let me have it.

Trying to find more information on Jemima BOURNE who I believe was Robert BOURNE's (b-1 Apr 1801 Hothfield,England d-6 Apr 1886 Penfield, NY)first wife. I only have Jemima's headstone that says she was born in Nottinghamshire and died 9 Mar 1844. She would be my g-g-great grandmother. Robert supposedly arrived in the USA in the early 1830's.

Bournes of Co. Mayo

I have been searching for a male descendant of the Bourne(s) family of Erris, Co. Mayo. I wish to offer this person a free DNA test to be used to trace the origins of this family, the earliest known members of which appeared in Castleconnor parish in the late 1600s. A person who follows this board once informed me that there is a Burns descendant of this family still living in Erris, and another board reader knew of a descendant now living in California, but I am unable to contact either of those intermediaries. I will be in Ireland in May on what could be my last trip over, so I am anxious to find out once and for all if my endeavor is feasible. If anyone knows of a Bourne(s) I could test, I will be grateful.
Paul Burns
Byrne/Burns/Beirne DNA Project

I have found out a lot about this family since 2005, but still know very little about Shelby Murray Elise's husband - my Great Grandfather. I live in Dardenne Prairie MO (St. Charles County) with my husband and two children. My father Andrew Paul Murray who is the son of Harry's 1/2 brother Paul Andrew Murray lives in Lake of the ozarks. Do you happen to have any pictures of Elise or any of the Murray's? My father did not know anything about his side of the family, because both Elise and Shelby died before he was born and all he knew of Shelby was that he was a drifter.

Good Day, again, Nancy,

It would serve me well if I were to preview my message replies before pressing the post button!

In my previous message:

1. The line:

John Brock was the son of Henry Bourne and Ann Morton.

should have been:

John Bourne was the son of Henry Bourne and Ann Morton.

2. I should have indicated that MY Morton Bourn(e) was the son of William Bourne and Mildred Helm.
Good Day, Nancy,

Unfortunately, it appears that your Susan is not a sibling of my Morton Bourn(e).

Information I received from Robert Taliafero indicate that there were four Morton Bourn(e)s in Virginia around that time. Robert's message can be viewed in the following URL:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/bourne/messages/1007.html

Based on Robert's information and what I've been able to discover, the parents of your Susan were John Bourne and Mary Brock. I show their children as Harry, Sallie, Morton, Daniel Boone, Polly, Nancy, Elizabeth, and Susan.

John Brock was the son of Henry Bourne and Ann Morton.

Ann Morton's twin sister Jane Morton married Andrew Bourne and they had a son, William Bourne. William Bourne married Mildred Helm. I show their children as Meredith, Andrew, Jane, Lucy Ann, Milly, Morton, William Jr, and Sarah (not necessarily in that order since I don't have their birth dates).

So, your Susan and my Morton are some sort of cousins (Nth cousin, M times removed; (I've never got this cousin bit sorted out))

Regards,

Wes

Hi,
I descend from a Susan Bourne b 1783 who married Benjamin Glass. She had siblings Nancy, Polly, Elizabeth, Harry Brock, Morton, Daniel Boone, and Sallie (Sarah?) Bourne. Does this sound like your Morton Bournes siblings?
Nancy

Good Day, Ron,

Thanks for responding to my message. I was beginning to think I was the only person in the world looking at Morton Bourn and Elizabeth Greenlee!

From you message, I gather that Morton Bourn(b ca 1795) is your great-great-great-grandparent on your Mother's side.
Morton Bourn( b ca 1795) is my great-great-grandparent on my Mother's side. I guess that makes us some sort of cousins once-removed. I descend from Sarah Jane's brother Moton (b 1830, VA).

Morton Bourn (b ca 1795, VA)
Morton Bourn Jr, (b 1830 VA)
Fredrick Justin Bourn (b 1871, Gualala, CA)
Phyllis Ashby Bourn (b 1912, Berkeley, CA)
Me

I've been chasing the Bourn side of my heritage since around 1990, and identifying the parents of Morton Bourn (b ca 1795) has been my brick wall until recently.

While not with 100% surety, I have run across fairly strong Virginia land transaction evidence supporting the assertion that William Bourne and Mildred (Milla) Helm were the parents of Morton Bourn (b ca 1795) and I'm now researching the William Bourne/Mildred Helm branch of the tree.

By the way, I should mention that - at least in Virginia records - I have found Morton Bourn's last name varies from Bourn, Bourne, Bowen and his first name shows as Morton, Milton, Mortin.

I will be happy to share what information and source material I have on the family of Morton Bourn and Elizabeth Greenlee and I would be happy to see what you have come up with through your research.

One of the most interesting sources I have run across is a series of letters written by John Greenlee Bourn, brother to Sarah Jane and Morton Jr. These were letters exchanged between John Greenlee Bourn and Herman Kiel - a man doing research on the history of Franklin County, Missouri.

In these letters, John mentions that all his siblings were born in Virginia, verifies that his mother was Elizabeth Greenlee, that they moved from Virginia to Frnaklin County, MO, in 1837, that his mother Elizabeth died in 1847, and that his father (MOrton Sr.) married Elizabeth's sister Lucinda Bourn ca 1848. Lucinda dies shortly thereafter, and Morton Sr. married a third time to Margaret Conally.

John mentions that his family moved to Kansas where they were run-out by the John Brown movement and returned to Missouri.

From John's letters, Morton Sr. was killed in a confrontation with the Missouri Home Guard in 1861.

I obtained photocopies of John Greenlee Bourn's letters during a visit to the Four River Genealogical Society in Washington MO.

These letters are on a web page with the following URL:

http://home.comcast.net/~wklang/JohnGreenleeBournLetters/ind...

(Let me know if you have any problem getting to this site. I can see it on my computer, but I may have messed-up the access permissions.)

I also have a letter written by Sarah Jane in 1884, to her brother Morton in California. In this letter she mentions her family and relatives in Missouri. I'd be happy to send you scanned images of this letter and the envelope if you are interested.

I also have a 1885 letter written by Sarah Jane's brother William D. Bourn to Morton, mentioning that he was constable at Ft. Bidwell in Modoc County, CA.

I also have a photograph purported to be that of Lucinda Bourn. I received this photo a few years from Mike Daugherty who was researching the Bourn/Daugherty lines.

Well, Ron, I've run off at the mouth too long already and may have repeated a lot of information you already have.

Other information on my research may be seen on a web page by Googling "Bourn Ashby Klang Anderson".

I'd be interested in hearing about what you've found.

Regards,

Wes

Mr. Klang-

James Milford Daugherty and Sarah Jane Bourne Daugherty were my great-great-grandparents on my mother's side. Moton Bourne and Elizabeth Greenlee were Sarah Jane's parents.

I have not been doing genealogy very long, but I have been going through my mother's things this year, as well as her older brother's research. I am not sure that I have any information that would go back further than Morton Bourne and Elizabeth Greenlee. However, if you have any interest in the information we have on their descendants, I would be happy to share it with you.

Sincerely,
Ron Williams

There is a William Arthur Baughan that married an Edith Maud Martin in the March quarter 1920 at Willesden 5f 185
but this doesn't seem to match your other info. I don't have any other Baughans to offer.

Cliff Baughen
Baughen one name study

Hallo Howard, Many thanks for your reply. You have given me some interesting leads.Edith would,I believe, have been my great Aunt therefore William a cousin of sorts.I have been trying to go through all the siblings of Edward Frank(known as Frank) as I have only recently discovered (almost) proof that indeed he was my biological grandfather. It is amazing now that we are able to unravel family ties that previously were kept only as whispered rumours. It`s beginning to read like a Catherine Cookson saga since Frank`s wife(Emily Dedman)accepted my Father absolutely,he always called her "my dearest Aunt Em",& she was the person who paid his passage back from Australia in the 30`s where he had been sent,at15 as a juvenile migrant under the now discredited British Govn.scheme.It makes sense that a son of Edith would be in the Navy & I can follow that up.Portsmouth born people often worked either in the Dockyard or for the Navy directly,as I did.I was a clerk at HMS Victory myself before I joined the WRAF.There was a brother of Edith & Frank called Leonard that I cannot trace although his name appears(or a relative) on their business in Portsmouth. If you think of any other name from the Martin family that might still be around in Portsmouth,I would be pleased to know.Meantime I so appreciate your input. regards Celia

Hi
I am related to Catherine Elkins. My great grandmother was Catherine's sister, Edith Elkins (1877-1852) daughter of George Elkins and Maria White.

There is a family story that Will Bourne (or is it Baughan?) was a Lt Commander in the navy and that they had two sons possibly called George and Frank. So far I have been unable to confirm any of these facts.
I was also told that George Martin was a herbalist, but looking at the 1901 census I think it was Catherine who had this occupation
Does any of this tie in with your facts?
Howard
Morton BOURN(E) b ca 1795 Son of William and Mille BOURNE?

I'd like to get in contact with anyone researching the families of William and Millie (HELM) BOURNE/BOURN and of Morton and Elizabeth (GREENLEE) BOURN/BOURNE/BOWEN/BOWIN...or anyone familiar with the area around Green Spring and Babbs Run ca. 1830.

My goal is to prove or disprove that William and Millie Bourn were the parents of MY Morton BOURN (b. ca 1795).

It is my understanding that there were several Morton BOURNs living in Virginia around that time. My Morton Bourn left Virginia in 1837 and settled in Franklin County, Missouri. Another Morton Bourn from Virginia - who was married to Tabitha White) ended up settling in Jessamine County, Missouri.

My ancestors include Morton and Elizabeth (nee GREENLEE) BOURN. My Morton was born ca 1795 in Virginia. They lived and owned property in an around Frederick and Berkeley Counties.

William and Millie BOURNE/BOURN had a son MORTIN/MORTON, lived and owned property in and around Frederick and Berkeley Counties. I have not found any information on the birthdate of William and Millie's son, Mortin/Morton.

From Frederick County Land Records:

On July 18, 1827, William and Millie formalized a gift of property to their sons Morton and Andrew - the property described as a tract with saw mill in Frederick County, VA, ... at a junction of Green Spring and Babbs Run....that they had purchased from Dr. Ezekiel Bull. It goes on to mention that Andrew had already sold his portion of the tract to his brother Morton. (paraphrased from D.A.Buck, Abstracts of Frederick County, VA, Deed Books 45-53, 1821-1828, page 26)

On September 6, 1833, Morton Bourn and his wife Elizabeth - MY Morton Bourn - sold a tract containing 158 acres with a saw mill, the dwelling house whereupon the couple lives...at the junction of Babbs Run and Green Spring. (paraphrased from D.A.Buck, Abstracts of Frederick County, VA, Deed Books 54-62, 1828-1834, page 30)

IF these two transactions were referring to the same property, it would be fairly convincing proof that my Morton Bourn was the son of William and Millie Bourn.

However, I have no idea whether there were or could have been multiple saw mills at the junction of Green Spring and Babbs Run.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Wes
