Thomas Bowerman son of Thomas and Lucy

All Bowerman,s (I use this spelling because it's how I spell my name, it is to keep things simple, it means nothing) researchers agree Hannah Annable married a Thomas Bowerman in 1644/5 and that there was more than one Thomas Bowerman in the Colonies ie; Plymouth, Yarmouth, Barnsatble etc. Using the process of elimination I believe I can make a good assumption as to who she married.

Thomas Bowerman son of Thomas and Elizabeth Carter Bowerman Ipswich Mass.

B: 18 Oct. 1601
M: 17 Aug. 1630
I: abt. 1634
D: May 1673
Was a copper (barrel maker)

Wife Margaret (possible Margaret Offin[g] M: Aug 1630 London) out lived him so could never have married Hannah Annable. Could be mistaken for the Bowerman of Barnstable who died 1679. Thomas and Margaret's 4th child Thomas B: 1643 and 7th child Thomas (not 1st in family to have 2 sons named Thomas) B: 1669 are both to young to marry Hannah. The 9th child is named Offin(g) and gives credence to Margaret's surname being Offin(g). (BG)

The “Fortune” Second ship to reach Plymouth. Known to have carried 38 People but only 35 are accounted for. At least 2 Bowerman researchers have family lore that a Thomas Bowerman (TB) arrived on the “Fortune”. The “Fortune” passenger list is based on the 1623 Division of Land, the passenger list compiled by Charles Edward Banks in Planters of the Commonwealth, and by the information found in Eugene Aubrey Stratton's Plymouth Colony: Its History and its People, 1620-1691

Thomas Bowerman A carpenter in Plymouth

1632 1st Mention of Thomas Bowerman in Plymouth.
1633 Taxed in Plymouth.
Thomas (ref as TB.) and Lucy(e) Bowerman are punished (PCR 1:93 & 94) for having children out of wedlock. Two things here. One is this the reason for no mention of them before now as they didn't fit into a religious community. They were not part of the Pilgrims from Holland. Must have married and joined to church to become a Freeman. Two who are the children and what became of them. I have found the following names in different location and aren't sourced, Thankful, Susanna, Elizabeth and low and behold a Thomas born in England.
March 4, 1634 Is rated/takes oath as a freeman. Is this Thomas and Lucy(e)? I think so.
March 13, 1634 Paid to repair Plymouth 1638 Sandwich's fort TB. I think so.
TB. Dies in 1689 so to calculate an age with wife and child (3 names missing from Fortune) had to be about 20 or older in 1621 to learn to be a carpenter. He had to be born about 1600.
1639 Had moved to Barnstable.
1643 Is Listed as able to bear arms in both Plymouth and Barnstable/Sandwich. Now if TB is the one listed in Barnstable/Sandwich who is the one in Plymouth? I believe now I answer 100's of questions. It TB's son Thomas who just happens to be the perfect age to marry one Hannah Annable.
3 March 1644/5 Married Hannah Annable. Is this TB's son. Works for me, Just need to find some proof for this.
June 8 1655 Surveyors of highway
June 3, 1663 Will probated

Many people have this Thomas living to 1679. The will of Thomas who died 1663 lists his children, and they match all children document for he and Hannah. He leaves certain items to his son Samuel in the 1663 will. Samuel died 1676. Samuel won't be in a 1679 will. Have yet seen the will of the 1679 Thomas.

Thomas Bowerman (TB) Plymouth/Sandwich/Yarmouth

Thomas shows up in Yarmouth in 1643. Thomas is Known to be a carpenter. Lucy Thomas 1st wife dies 1676. Thomas marries 2nd wife Elizabeth Rider widow of Lt. Coles. Thomas dies 1689 no Bowerman's remain in Yarmouth. Thankful the youngest of Thomas's children marries NFN snow. Thomas and Lucy other children are missing. Where have they gone. Refer back to son Thomas.

Hi, Kevin, After decades, we are still seeking our Bowerman ancestors in NE Devon. I have Thomas back to a baptism in Uplowman in 1779, and he dies there in 1750. In between he marries Mary Atkins and has his children baptised in Clayhanger. His father appears to be John, baptized in Uplowman also, in 1747. I am not sure enough of that though to take it further. I remember that you had connections to Hemyock.

I believe Robert Bowerman's wife Mary may be a Goff, and her parents may be Robert Goff and Joan Knight. I am descended from Joseph Goff 1786 -1849 (brother of Mary Goff ) who married Joan Bowerman 1790 -1830 whom I think is the sister of Robert Bowerman.

I would start by looking at John/Johannes Bowerman, born 1784 or earlier based on the 1810 census, son of Michael Bauerman, b 1711 in Germany. There are several alternate spellings, including Bouerman, Bauserman, Bearman, etc. Michael raised his family in Weissenburg TWP in what is now Lehigh Co, (back then it was Bucks or Northampton) but his sons didn't stay there. John is the most likely source of the Dauphin Co Bowermans. There's lots of info out there on them. I'm descended from a brother of John named Peter who ended up in TN. Other brothers were Henry, George, and Michael. Good luck.

Thomas H. Bowerman, s. of Benoni

Searching for anyone with supporting evidence of Benoni being a son of David Bowerman.

Recent DNA research has proven, beyond doubt, that Thomas H. Bowerman is not a descendant of Ichabod Bowerman (b. circa 1721). We are currently trying to establish the validity of the claim that his father (identified in the Baptismal record as Benoni) is a son of David. We have tested descendants of two seperate sons of Thomas H. and both were not genetic descendants.

If there are any male descendants of either Benoni, or David Bowerman (s. of Ichabod) that would be willing to help us solve this mystery with a DNA sample, it would be most appreciated. We are willing to help out with the costs of the tests!

Hi Bev
I am related to William Henry Bowerman born 1873 Summertown Oxford, married Annie Elizabeth Hedges. One of their children Margery Doreena Bowerman was my grandmother. The snag is she had my father adopted as the father was not her husband. She married Leslie Robert Carter and remained with him as he wrote to my father in the late 1980s about Margery apparently already dying. So we never met her.
My father was David John Lyndon.Adopted he became Lodge.
I have all the details on Genes Reunited.
Don't know if this is of use or interest to you.
Regards
Debbie Gurney

Re: Bowerman One Name Study

I am researching my ancestors and have come to a dead in as far as where they came to North America from. We are of course talking about Thomas Bowerman (Bourman) who apparently came from England to Plymouth, Mass. around 1633 and subsequently married Hannah Annable. Any help as to where in England he came from and name(s) of his family would be of great help.

I think I have managed to trace my ancestors from Mass.,USA to Ontario ,Canada at the present date (Thomas-Thomas II-Thomas III-Ichabod-David-John-Elias-Alonzo-Bruce Ray- and me - Ronald Bruce Wayne). If I can provide you with any information along this line of BOWERMANs let me know.

Also, did you ever get the Bowerman Newsletter going that you talked about back in July 2000? As you can see, I just started doing some research again and was going thru the Bulletin Board (even the old entries).

My thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Wayne

Donna,
The book was a limited production. It was put together by a woman here in Harrisburg, PA. over several years. She is now in her 80's. Several years ago the local library would lend it out for two weeks, that is when I started my work. Now the library will not lend it out. After meeting with the author, Mrs. Mary DiNinni, she was glad to hear that some one had taken interest in her work. She then sold me the last book she had. When I get the book back, I will send you the information it to see if you can find a book locally.

My research has been specific to the decendants of the Bowerman's starting with a William Bowerman down thru my grandchildren. If you wish, I can email you several pieces of what I have put together. I am including pictures and information about people not just names, birth and death information. Again, my research had been only about Bowerman's that live in Pennsylvania. I can meet with most of them as most have not moved out of state.

I have a few bits and pieces for you, mostly culled from http://www.cullyonline.co.uk/history.asp. There was a James Bowerman (b1794) who ran The White Hart Pub on Fore Street. He is mentioned in the account of the 1839 Great Fire of Collumpton, which destroyed a large part of the town. This available from the above website. James died before 1841, but the following Bowermans are recorded in Collumpton in the 1841 census
Eliza Bowerman	b abt 1825
Frank Bowerman	abt 1840
Harriett Bowerman abt 1824
John Bowerman	abt 1834
Mary Bowerman	abt 1838
Sarah Bowerman	abt 1822
William Bowerman abt 1836.
I also attach some photos of Fore Street and some images of the relevant sections of the 1830s Pigot's Directory.

The area immediately around (Hemyock, Culmstock, Clayhidon, West Buckland, Uffculm) is full of Bowermans- all related I think to the Bowermans who owned the Manor House of Culme Davy (now White Hall Farm), Hemyock for 400 years, before selling it in the early part of 18th century. See http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=50579#s1....

The Book of Hemyock: Heart of the Blackdowns by Brian Clist and Chris Dracott Halsgrove Press (2001)lists many Bowermans of Hemyock. The index is available at http://genuki.cs.ncl.ac.uk/DEV/Hemyock/HemyockBook.html.

To go even further back, I believe there is a connection to Lord Thomas Bowerman, who acquired Brooke Manor of the Isle of Wight, in 1450.

Happy hunting!
Ciao,
Deb Smith

Ciao,

Non so si devo scrivere in Italiano o in Inglese. Dunque, faccio une miscela .....

My grandfather is John Francis Bowerman, born in Collumpton in 1894. His father, John, was a draper with a business at Fore Street in Collumpton, his mother was Florence Katherine Wall. His Grandfather was born in Brentford, Middlesex c 1833, and his father was also called John. (They were not very imaginitive with the family names from the look of things!)

There is some link with the Plymouth Brethren. My Grandfather however joined up in WW1, he was posted to York at some stage where he got married and then divorced. He was then posted out to Burma. I have a lot of information from this period.

I would really like to find out info from Collumpton though, so any help you can give would be gratefully received!!

Best regards e distinti saluti

David Wright

Good morning. My name is Carm Foster (male). My attachment to this Bowerman line is through Ichabod Bowerman and Jane Richmond. They had a son by the name of Jonathan Bowerman who married a Sarah Vincent. They had a daughter by the name of Eleanor who married Samuel Foster my 2nd. Gt. Grandfather. I do have a lot of information from the Bowerman Family line with some obtained from doing transcription work of the Genealogy of Dr. Albert C. Bowerman. Israel J. Bowerman according to my Family History program would be my 2nd. Cousin 3X removed. Although I do have some information on the Family of Joseph Bowerman and Abigail Davis, I don't have very much on the Family of Israel J. Bowerman and his wives, Mary Foster, Emma J and Martha A. nor very much on their children. This Family appears to have moved to the US. very early. I am hoping you might be able to share some info. with me and I likewise.
Isreal Judea Bowerman's parent's names were Joseph F. Bowerman and Abigail Louisa Davis. Joseph's parents were Isreal Judah Bowerman and Anne Terwilliger. Isreal Judah's parents were Ichabod Bowerman and Jane Richmond.

Isreal Judea's first wife's name was Mary Foster (I have ve
ry little info on her), second wife was Emma J. VanAlstine, third wife was Martha A. ???. As far as I know, all Isreal's children's mother was Mary. I am descended from Sylvester U. Bowerman, Isreal's youngest. In some records he is referred to as "Bert". He was my great grandfather.

My grandfather was one of the Bowermans back in 1800's to come to the island. He was from Duneiden On. This place was, apparently, named Bowerman Holler. My great grandfathers name was Richard, and he named my grandfather, William or Bill. They lived at a farm called Happy Acres about 13 miles from South Baymouth. I am sure they were related

My wife has a Bowerman connection to Manitoulin. Her mother, Elizabeth Bowerman came from Mindemoya and married Charles Wilcox in Hamilton Ontario. I have just started looking into her line (Wilcox/Bowerman) and any information the list members can share, would be welcome. Regards.

Hi Susan, David was assigned to Mary (widow of his Uncle George Bowerman-executed in Sydney with his two brothers in 1820)on the farm at Pennant Hills 22.08.1822 and stayed there until he got his TOL in 1825, but was gone by the time of the 1828 Census. He was living at Seaham on John Wightson's "Brandon" estate when he married in 1832; moved to Dempsey Island in 1837 and was on Ash Island when he died in 1839. I have some info on Ellen too, but no photo of Mary (I have one of Charlotte) I live at Belmont North Ray
