John Bowles/Millie Pate

I've recently returned to my genealogy. I descend from Granville Bowles via John W and Soledad Fernandez. I am curious as I find numerous trees with the name Foley attached under John and Millie Bowles. Who are these people? Have studied the branch for many years, so this is a new one for me. Anyone know how the Foleys' are involved with the Bowles?

Ah, but which Frederick?
1. Frederick Clack ( my grandfather) born 1869 in Bampton, son of David Clack and Eliza Cripps nee Bowles. Married Fanny Filbey 17/10/1886 at St Judes, Kensal Green, Middlesex.
2. Fred (my father, sometimes known as Frederick) born Kensington 10/03/1905, only son of Frederick Clack and Fanny Filbey, one of 12 children. Married Vera Knight 23/07/1933. Died 20/08/1982.
3. Frederick Clack (my brother) born in Heston 04/08/1934, one of three sons of Fred and Vera. Married Eileen Hill, died 18/07/1998.

I'd be interested to know more about your Bowles, Bowls, Bowle research.

I have been researching Bowles of Bampton and Brize Norton for many years and as you may expect, all the Bowles/Bowls/Bowle in that area are connected.
The family goes back to Edward Bowles who died in Brize Norton in 1644.
However I am now fairly confident that I can trace them further back to around 1500.
Do you have any more details of your Frederick?

Here is some info I found that gives a possible lead you might want to check out.

There was also a "Cornelius Boles" (of African descent) who petitioned for land in Cumberland County in 1814, stating that his father was a refugee and during the rebellion belonged to Col Delancy's Regiment.

I know this is a rather older post, but I thought I would try. I am trying to help a friend that I went to school with find her brothers and sisters. Her father's name was Frank D Bowles, and he died in Columbus in 1982 and in buried in Pine Mountain Ga.

I have a branch of the Bowles family that came from Wormingford. Parents names Thomas b4.9.1785 married to Hetty Constabel (no other info). They were married in Great Horkesley on 10.1.1807. Would love to make contact with any other members

Corneulis Bowles in Nova Scotia

am wondering if i can get some help finding Corneulis Bowles. I know that his son Stephen Bowles was born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada in abt 1826. In the 1871 Census it says that they are African. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how to find Corneulis Bowles's birth record.

yes this name happens to fall under Rocky Johnson the name Corneulis is his great grandpa

I have a Bowles in my family. Her name is Hannah Bowles and she married Richard Dawes at St. Leonard's Church in Deal, Kent, England. I believe her father is William Bowles and she names a son William Bowles Dawes. Hannah was born in the late 1700's. I have not been able to go farther back. I believe she is one of the Bowles related to Tobias Bowles who came to Virginia in the 1700's. He was involved in free trading out of Deal. Does any of this sound like your Bowles?

First, greetings sir, I hope this finds you well. I couldn't help but be a little startled at your name. I had a younger brother same name, different spelling, Eric. So, are you located in the US or the UK? You mentioned you might have a lot of info on the Armesons, would love to hear it if you care to share. My own connection comes from the branch in Massachussets, specifically the Cape Cod area. My late father was transferred to Florida with the air force, and us with him, where I still live.

I just happened to come across your posting by chance. My curiosity was piqued when you listed an Armeson connection in Manitoba.
I live in Florida, as do my parents, (Frank Edward and Carin) and have 3 kids of my own. My branch of the Armesons is strung out all the down the east coast of the continent, starting in Canada several generations ago.
Most of the branch I know of live in the Massachussetts and upstate New York area, but a group of them moved west years ago, possibly before I was born. That group occupies parts of california, and possibly arizona.
I have seen geneology charts that show early marriages and deaths along the upper east coast of canada that date back to the mid-1800s, and am aware of at least one full-blooded Mohawk named Rose Duquet that married into the family just prior to the 1900's. She came from a reservation just outside the Montreal area I believe.
Two interesting asides;
There are charts that show the Armesons living in an area called Sandiacre in England that pre-date any of the canadian info and my father once ran across a record of a legal transaction involving some Armesons in England that dates baack to the 1600's..
And several years ago I ran across a guy locally who's last name was spelled Armison, with a family that came from the New York state area. Havent had a chance to really look for the connection to that branch, though I am sure there is one.

In order for anyone to know if there is any relationship is for you to provide more information such as given names, birth/death/marriage dates if you know it, if not at least supply a time frame.

Also can you narrow the area down to something other than, "Southern Ohio?"

Please let us know what specific information you need.

Without more information it is difficult to determine if we have a connection or can help in any way.

He isn't related by blood to the Bowles. His daughter, Willie Mae, married into the Bowles family I am assuming, since that is her name in the article. I don't know anything about either of the families: Bowles or Williams, so I can't answer any more than that I'm afraid. Sorry.

This was a very interesting story, however I don't understand how Williams is related to Bowles. From the beginning of the Bowles research it has been extremly confusing, but I do want to discover all I can. Hello. My mother, who knows I love history, has given me an old newspaper clipping that she has kept from 1959 when she was a teenager.

The attached is a copy of the photo with the caption underneath it. This newspaper clipping came from 'The Odessa American' in Odessa, Ector Co, TX, dated December 27, 1959.

It also has an article beside it which reads in total:

"FINAL RITES SET WEDNESDAY IN HOUSTON"

"Houston, Tex. (AP)- Mourners trooped slowly by the bier of Civil War veteran Walter Williams by the thousands today.
The body of the 117-year old soldier of the South lay in state in the Civil Courts Building a second day-the last survivor of the five million members of the Blue and the Gray who took part in the great conflict.
Flags dipped to half-staff across the land. Texas and Georgia observed memorial days in his honor.
A military procession escorts the body Wednesday morning through downtown streets to the South Main Baptist church for funeral services. Dr. E. H. Westmoreland, pastor, will officiate.
At the church will be a group dressed in Union blue. The Mount Vernon, Ohio, Sons of Union Veterans Fife and Drums Corps will render the one-time forage master's favorite melodies-"Dixie," "The Yellow Rose of Texas," and "When Johnny Comes Marching Home."
Then U.S. 4th Army and Texas State Highway Patrol units will escort the body to the country cemetery at Franklin, Tex., for military rites.
Williams died Saturday. His doctor said he apparently had beaten back his fourth attack of pneumonia since summer, only to succumb of old-age complications.
Governmental agencies pay tribute to him tonight with memorial services in the Houston Music Hall. Various service organizations will take part.
The body was clad in a Confederate officer's uniform of gray, trimmed with gleaming gold buttons, cuffs, collar and braid.
Willie Mae Bowles, a daughter with whom Williams lived out his final years sobbed as she touched her father's head."

I'm confused by all the Thomas'! But I'm also descended from the Thomas Bowles who married Ann Mowsdale, through their son Thomas and his wife Mary - all the way down to Jane Caroline Hewer through Thomas Bowles who married Elizabeth Rowland in the early nineteenth century. Anybody else part of this branch? (We're still in the same area, with family names of Hewer, Cheesley, Hunt, Taylor and Coates.)

I know you started this thread a long time ago but am hoping that you will get this messgae.
I have just started to compile my family tree and Thomas Bowles is on mine.I am descended through his son Alred Bowles who married Elizabeth Elms, then their daughter Sarah Ann Bowles married James Alfred Trueman, whose daughter Lily Elizabeth married Joseph Lovesey and their daughter is my Mum, Rosslyn.
I have managed to find ancestors on the Bowles side back till c1600 when Thomas Bowles married Ann Mowsdale.

I am trying to get any info that I can on my great grandfather, A.W. Bowles. He was born in 1870 and the location is unknown. He married Martha Jane Eddings in 1891 in Oklahoma. They lived in Chouteau, OK where they had two children: Walter Lee Bowles, born 1893 and Victoria Belle Bowles, born 1895. I have seen A.W. referred to as Walter Bowles on another family tree. J.R.Bowles Va Farm on Elko Rd. in 1930's

Looking for info on a J.R. Bowles that had some farm land on Elko Rd. in the 1930's. I don't have his first name. Possibly lived in the Ettrick, matoca, colonial heights location in Va, not 100% sure. Born in the late 1800's to early 1900's.

Robert Baird Armeson was married at one time to my dad's sister -- a Glennette O'Rourke. They had one daughter who lives in New York -- she's my first-cousin. I believe that Robert Armeson is still alive in Florida. 1926 would be about right for a year of birth. I saw an old post from 2001 (by a Karen Wolfe) and she was looking for information for her cousin's wife about birth parents, and the father was Robert Baird Armeson, but listed a Marie Clayton as the birth mother. my grandmother married a gordon henry bowles on dec 7 1941 in westmount quebec. her name was ethel osbourne. he worked for the royal trust in montreal until the 70's. he died in 1972 in montreal. gordon never served during ww11. he had a mastoid operation which prevented him from service. he went to dalhousie university. he was not my blood grandfather but i loved him very much. he was a kind decent man. i still miss him.

Oh neat! I haven't seen Ernest in years. I'm Teddy's son, Teddy Jr. and Ernest's nephew. I am trying to get up with Dad now to ask him if he knows where he is buried.
My best guess would be either somewhere in Lincoln Co. or in Barker Cemetery in Ashford.

Good morning!

This whole thing started with my grandpa wanting to find where his grandfather, WINFIELD SCOTT BOWLES, was buried! I'm Ernest's granddaughter, Debbie (Sherry Colles) Bowles daughter. William Scott Bowles would be my great-grandfather. I have found more info and it helped when I found out from Argatha that Margaret's maiden name was Laypole!

I found them all here:

Margaret and the kids (all Laypole's, and she's listed as Widowed)on page 27, Winfield is on page 13.

Then, I find this on William in someone else's family tree that he was married before Vestie ( BIG MAYBE) and had 2 sons with her. This person had everyone else, but I haven't been able to verify Maud.

Wow, just because I was bored I googled Bowles Boone Co. WV and found this post.

William Scott Bowles was my grandfather. He passed away before I was born so I personally don't have a lot of information about him, though I'm sure my father does, I can tell you that Dr. Winfield Bowles was his father and my great grandfather, my Dad knew him well and has one of his old medical books at home.

I can tell you some about his family. I was not aware that he had ever been married before, my grandmother and his wife was Opal Biddie Bowles her maiden name was Holstein. They had several children together.

I am not sure if Eliza was related, my great granfathers name was fredirick bowles born 1856.

Orin is pictured in the 1917 Huisache, yearbook of Main Avenue High School in San Antonio, Texas, and is a senior. I'm not kin but thought this might be helpful to someone researching the family.
