I have been looking for documentation to prove the widely assumed link between Cornelius Bowman Sr. and George Bowman m. Mary Hite/Heydt via John Bowman m. Elizabeth Ryan.

Books I have found about Jost Hite show George Bowman's marraige to Maria/Mary Hite about 1731 (1728 earliest). Their eldest child, John Jacob Bowman/Baumann was born in 1732. None of their children are listed married to Elizabeth Ryan.

I also Show John Bowman who married Elizabeth Ryan as born in 1720, minimum of 8 years prior to George's marraige to Mary Hite.

Can anyone help poke a few holes in the fog with some documentation?

Thank You in advance,
Jeff Reece.

Anna Amelia Jane Bowman

I am looking for information on Anna Amelia Jane Bowman (1842-1913) She was married to a Mr. Joseph C. Longenecker (1836-1905) Her parents were listed as Vacilla VanZile and Jacob Bowman. They are from the Washington county, Maryland area. It is a long standing family rumor that there is a native american among us and my grandmother said that it was her grandmothers mother which would put it right around Anna's generation. My father has been asked several times if he is native american and gets very dark skinned at times especially in the summer. Does anyone have any information on Anna, or her mother or if this rumor could be true?

Your George W Bowman could possibly be a son of a sibling of Jacob's or Jacob could have another son I don't know of. I don't know the name of his first wife or when or where they got married or how many children they had together. All I know about her is that she was from either Kentucky or Virginia by what William, my great great great grandpa said in the 1900 census. She was dead before the 1840 census and he remarried in 1842. Where was your George W Bowman born and we can go from there to see a possible connection. Tell me all you know about your Bowman's.

Kelley

What year was he born? My Jacob G Bowman (Borman) was born in 1801, lived in Columbus, Adams County, IL. He had a son William but not certain who Jacob married first because she was dead before the 1840 census. He married 2nd Sarah Hughes and third Lucinda Brown. By census records he was continually called Borman until his son changed it around 1860 to Bowman. I do not know any of Jacob's parent's or if he had any sibling's nor do I know when he came over.

Kelley

Firbank is a hamlet a few miles from Sedbergh, which until 1974 was in Yorkshire, but is now in Cumbria. The earlier Bowmans call themselves 'of Cowperthwaite', which was the same general area but has now disappeared as a name. In the mid 17c. they lived in a house called Nettle Pot, which still stands. The last occupant in the direct line was the daughter of william Atkinson Bowman, so i surmise it was sold, orwent with her on her marriage to a Kendal solicitor in the mid 19c.

Hi, there. My name is Vicki (Bowman) Habib. My Bowman line came from Whiskey Run, IN. My great great grandfather's name was Isom Bowman. I am not quite sure of the correct spelling of his name as I have seen it written Isom, Isam, Boman, Bowman and even Bauman. His wife was Eliza Jane Thornhill. I THINK his grandmother's name was Lydia Springer and I believe she came from Virginia. I'm not sure if she was the grandma or Granny Great as I do not have everything right in front of me. I hope to hear from you especially if we are related. My direct e-mail address is vickiirwin8@hotmail.com. Thanks, Vicki

Hi. My Bowman line came from a town in Crawford County, IN - called Whiskey Run. I am interested in finding out anything I can about them. My great grandfather's name was Oliver Jackson Bowman (b. 1855 or 1856). His father was Isom Bowman and his mother was Eliza Jane Thornhill. I have no idea about Isom's parents or for that matter, the correct spelling of his name. I have seen Isam, Isom, Boman and Bowman. Here's my e-mail address - I hope we come from the same line of Bowmans. Thanks, Vicki

Looking for any info to try and find who they are and where they came from, etc. They are buried togther in a family graveyard with a lot of other stones that are unmarked in PCVA on Squirrel Creek Rd. I know Peter bought land in PCVA from Wm Donathan of Wilkes County NC in 1788 and I assume this is the Peter who killed Francis Barrett at the courthouse in PCVA. Any info would be nice, I think that Gilbert who married Lucy Brim (1805)is his son, but not proven.

You may need to do what I finally did a couple days ago. It was time-consuming, but I had a huge breakthrough. I knew where my ancestors lived, but couldn't find them through searches because of so many name variations. I finally went through the census for their district, page-by-page, and there they were! Page 32 of 64. Be open-minded for spelling variations. My family has used Bowmen, Bowman, Bomar, Bowmar, and Bowmer (current spelling, since 1920s).
