Thank you for your interest and for your speedy reply.
You are so gracious to offer your help.

Actually, I can document the early life of James Alexander Boyd: His father, Charles Boyd, came from Ireland to Fishing Creek, SC, and David Boyd was one of his sons. David married Martha Narcissa Gaston, daughter of Elizabeth Porter and John Gaston; their eldest son was James Alexander Boyd. All of a sudden-- in one year (1844)-- both Narcissa and David died, and the grandfathers died, as well, so the younger children lived with relatives until, finally, the court appointed a guardian for them. However, James Alexander, who was almost 14 years old, did not stay in South Carolina but moved on to Carroll County, Tennessee, where he met and courted Mary Jones. I have records of their living in Shelby County, TN, but then, after Mary died, James Alexander just disappeared. I am going to try that Putnam County lead you gave me.

I thank you again for your encouragement!
If I find anything definite, I will surely let you know.

Ther are also a group of BOYDs that came from Virginia and North Carolina that settled in what is now Nasville. They came over with the Donaldson party in the late 1700s. I belive that this is a branch of my line. I have info on this line, if interested. I didn't find any of the names mentioned, but most info i have is earlier than 1850.

Thanks for the clue. Interestingly, our Boyds have the same given names: My grandfather was W. D. Boyd (William David) and his father was James Alexander Boyd who was in the civil war. "My" James Alexander married Mary Jones in 1830, and they moved to Shelby County. James Alexander Boyd and Mary Elizabeth Jones Boyd had 3 children: John L., Leila (who died at a young age), and my Grandfather , William David. Mary Elizabeth passed away in about 1867, and, I cannot find out what happened to James Alexander Boyd after his wife died. I'll check Putnam County, TN. Maybe you've solved my mystery. Thanks again!

She married Willard Donald but I do not have a date for the marriage.

His sister Bessie Young Boyd her DOB was July 23, 1888. Her DOD was June 5, 1933 no mention of a marriage for her.

His sister Clara McAllister Boyd her DOB was Sept. 6, 1890.
Her DOD was April 4, 1980. No mention of a marriage for her either.

His brother Wilfred Almon Boyd's DOB was May 26, 1896. His DOD was Dec.18, 1986. He married Lena Annie Taylor Prangley on Sept. 5. 1925 and they had one son. No information on the son as he is presumed still living.

I would presume that Frederick was born and died in New Brunswick, Canada because the rest of the family was there all their lives.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nancy Lavasser Dorais

Give us your guesses -- clearly stated as a guess -- which records you have already searched, etc. People will be able to point you to other records that may be of assistance.

If you know of any other names/relations to Frederick, that will also help.
Hi June,

I recently found something on-line which said Agnes Love Boyd's parents were John Love and Elizabeth Sweigert, although there was no documentation. It also stated that John's brother Thomas married Rachel Sweigert so it does look like there is a strong Love, Boyd, Sweigert connection.

Agnes Love Boyd's obituary follows:

Source: Copy of newspaper clippings from York Historical Society

Mrs. Agnes Boyd

Chanceford, Oct. 25 --Word was received here today of the death of Mrs. Agnes Boyd, widow of Henry Boyd at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Cowan, Atglen, Pa., this morning at 6 o'clock. Mrs. Boyd is a former resident of Chanceford township and lived here until a few years ago. She had been an invalid for several years. Death was caused by a complication of diseases. She is survived by the following children: Zene and Arthur Boyd, this place; Mrs. Mamie Dietrich, and John Boyd, Lancaster and Mrs. Cowan, Atglen. The funeral wil be held in Bethel Methodist Episcopal church on Friday.

Mrs Agnes Boyd

Red Lion, Oct. 27--The funeral of Mrs Agnes Boyd, widow of Henry Boyd, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Cowan, Atglen, Pa., was held this morning. Services were conducted at Bethel Methodist Episcopal church. Rev. D. A. Sower, Jr., pastor of the church, officiated. Interment was made in the church cemetery. The pallbearers were: Benjamin McCue, Samuel Erieler, Ralph Keesy, Charles Gipe, Howard Knisely, and Warren Patton.

However, my mother told me that my great grandmother was from the Low Dutch Settlement. They were Jews and from Holland. I found one ancestor from the Netherlands without calling for help. Time is up. This particular one is baffling. The death certificate of this woman's husband said the origin of country of her husband was not known--nor was the name or state. If anyone has any information on the woman on this death certfificate please let me know.

Don't know if this helps, but my great grandfather James Virgil Boyd & his father W.D. Boyd were from Shelby Co., TN. There is a James Alexander Boyd from TN that fought in the civil war & was in Putnam Co. TN afterwards.
