Nice to hear from another Boys! Where do you have the Boys family in the 1700s?

I have my ancestors in New Jersey.

From what I have gleaned over the years there were many Boys who resided in states such as Kentucky and Tennessee. I got the impression they were miners.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Mary Boys McKinley Sanders

Mary Boys (b abt 1816 OH) married (William?) McKinley before 1841 in OH. They had a child/children.
On 7 April 1849 Mary Boys McKinley (widowed, I think) married John Sanders (widower) in Clermont Co., OH.
They had at least three additional children: Richard, John, and Anna.
I cannot find a death or burial record for Mary or John, nor can I trace their children after 1860 when they were still in Clermont Co.
Mary was my ggg grandmother. Any information would be appreciated.
I estimate she was born c1765-70, and all I know of her is a father known as Edward Boys esq.?? I don't know of any links with the USA, but it might help.

My email address is jeff&whittle.name (I'm sure you know how to interpret that.
Hello,
I am at a bit of a loss with this one - this is what I have
Elizabeth Boys married a Joseph Walker. Rev, children (known) Sarah Walker and William Edward Walker.

Sarah went on to marry Duncan George Forbes 8th Lord of Culloden, and I have seen in various books that her mother was Elizabeth Boys, dau of Edward Boys. Esq of Kent.

Is this ringing any bells with anyone ? I am seeking people who may know this family or have come across them. I have hit a bit of a wall.

regards

Ky-Lee
Qld, Australia

Hi Kerry
Have just found some interesting info on the BOYS family on this site. My maternal GT great grandmother was Fances Boys b 1833 who married Edward Percival Guest in 1858. Frances was the daughter of George Boys and Susannah Chant and George descended from William and Elizabeth boys. George was a son of Edward Boys anbd Sara Collingham.
Does any of this fit with you. I know your earlier messages were way back but hope you pick this up. My email is
fred-reeves@lineone.net
Fred.

Tina,
I know you posted your inquery about Charles Walter Boys about 7 years ago, but I can hopefully help you if you haven't already found the information. Charles was my Great-uncle and so far as I know he is deceased. My mother Terri (Boys) Gonda (who would be your 1st cousin) will have more information. I hope this post makes it to you!
Message to the corbetts!

If our branches are related, then it's very distantly!

What I would suggest (if you haven't done so before) is to contact Malcolm Boyes who has a one-name study on the Boys/Boyes family - I'm sure he has some information on your line. His contact details can be found at http://www.one-name.org/. Click on 'registered names' and you'll find his details from there.

best wishes and good luck!

Clare

Thank you for writing!
I don't know if you follow the Kent mail list (your message was gatewayed from the message board).
It appears that my BOYS isn't BOYS at all, but BONE instead. It's all very complicated and mixed up. Thomas BROCKELBANK married an Emily Archer BONE,who appears to have been born around 1838, but my grandfather's b.cert. says his mother was Emily Archer BOYS and her d.cert. says she was 26 when she died in 1874 (so b. 1858). Go figure! :o)

Gail
I am currently researching my section of the Sussex Boys family. My grandfather was Charles Edwin Boys born in Southease in 1885 and married to Ada Maria Hilborn in 1912 in Ringmer. First child (of nine) was Marjorie May Boyes - note the addition of the 'e'. They moved to Woodmansterne, Surrey, then Woking but we also have huge links with Ditchling and have Boys ancestors buried in the churchyard (gravestone still there). There are now lots of Boyes living in Surrey, originally BOYS but for some reason my grandfather added the 'E'. Not sure if your branch is related but I think I have just found my great grandfather, Charles Boys who in the 1901 census was living in the Newhaven area (Southease).

Do you have access to a site called www.familysearch.org.uk? If so, this has a lot of the Boys family, going right back to 1047 which I am fairly certain I am related to! There are a few John Boys so you might find your link there. Best of luck!

I've not come across the names you mentioned yet though as they are all from Kent, there may be an earlier link. Do you know the names of the next generation back?

There is hearsay information that we descended from a clergyman. There is also hearsay that we are related to Sir John Boys and some of our antecedants came from the Betttteshanger Branch.

The earliest antecedants I have in the USA were in Gloucester County, New Jersey in the early 1700s.

They could have come directly from England or come to Virginia or Massachusetts and migrated the New Jersey which is my guess.

Some of the early family names were Nathan, Eli, Susannah, Robert, and Henry.

Sussex/London Boys

I am researching the Boys family from Alciston, Sussex, and I would guess there are likely to be connections with the Alfriston, Berwick, Hellingly and Selmeston Boys. My particular interest is Henry Boys (my great-great-grandfather) born 1841 in Alciston, son of John and Elizabeth Boys. His siblings were Mary Ann, Ellen, Esther, John, William and Caroline. By 1851 John Boys (snr) has died and Elizabeth is recorded as a 'lime-burner's widow on parish relief', still living in Alciston. In the subsequent 20 years, I have lost the family, but by 1871 some of the children have reappeared in London - Henry is a metropolitan policeman, some of the sisters are living in the Marylebone area of London and a brother is in Limehouse. I am trying to ascertain connections with the other Boys in the Alciston area and any London links. Any help would be appreciated.

The threads relating to BOYS HALL are severall years old so I am hoping some of the submitters are still around!
From the 1841 census through to 1871 my 3 x gr.grandfather, William SCOTT was living at BOYS HALL . In the 1851 census it says he was a farmer with 900 acres and 56 employees and several domestic servants. He retired to Sevenoaks by the time of the 1881. I would love to find out when he arrived at BOYS HALL and am also interested in the history of the place. Apparently it is a haunted house according to a documentary on BBC.
My information regarding William SCOTT does seem to conflict with information posted by one lady who said her many times great grandfather William BOYS was living there during this time. Funnily enough my William SCOTT was also married to an Elizabeth!

Looking forward to hearing from anyone with an interest in this location or the SCOTT family.
