My grandmother was Gertrude Inez Bozarth born in Woodland, Wa in 1886. I have not been able to find who her parents were. My mother who has passed away said that her father had two families and possibly the marriage wasn't legal. Her married name was Gertrude March. She lived in Seattle, Spokane and Alaska during her lifetime.

In vol 11, p2077 of the Bozarth Beacon, there is a family group sheet stating that Annie Pressel, b 1848 Scotland, m. c.1883, was the 2nd wife of George Bozarth. She died 11 Aug 1898 in Camden, Camden Co, NJ. Pressel may have been her married name. This info may have been sent in by Patricia Conover as a previous record was done by her. If you will email me privately at deesgenes1 at yahoo.com, I can send you the page with the information. I found no other info in my index about her.

"Find Deaths Of Four Members Of Bozarth Family Accidental
An inquest conducted by Coroner C. B. Young yesterday afternoon at the Williamson Funeral Home revealed the tragedy which claimed the lives of the entire family of Walter Bozarth, prominent farmer residing about seven miles southeast of Jacksonville on Sunday morning when the car in which they were riding was demolished by a fast Wabash train at a crossing a short distance west of Arnold station, was accidental.
[Engineer] Cox said it appeared that the car stopped after getting on the tracks and then lurched forward, leaving the rear wheels on the inside of the north rail.
Lock...stated that he found Mr. Bozarth lying under the wreckage of the machine and across the body of the little girl, and after removing him from the remnants of the car it appeared that he was still alive ...opinion that he was dead by the time he was placed in the ambulance.
Walter Nelson Bozarth was born in Hebron, Nebraska on Jan. 29, 1888. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in civil engineering. He was a member of the varsity football team while in school. He came to Morgan county between fifteen and twenty years ago and for several years was connected with the Illinois Stell Bridge factory. Later he took up farming and was most successful in this line of work. He was a member of Harmony lodge, A.F.& A.M.
Mr. Bozarth is survived by his father, W. L. Bozarth, of Hebron, Nebraska, two sisters, Mrs. Harold B. Wright, and Mrs. Chris Allwede of Arkansas and one brother, Dr. Elton Bozarth, of Omaha, Nebraska."
[Jacksonville Daily Jounal, Thursday, 25 Aug 1931, courtesy Melissa]

The informant on her death certificate was Mrs. E. F. Westhoff of La Grange. "Beatrice" was born 21 August, 1893 and remained single until death. I found a Lewis Co., MO. death certificate for Edward F. Westhoff and his wife's name was Cora. I found a Lewis Co., MO. death certificate for William Edward Westhoff and his parents were Edward F. He married Edith Gertrude Scot and they had several children, one was my grandfather, Samuel Walter Bozarth. I some how think Finis Ewing Bozarth had to be related to the two Finis Bozarth's in Illinios that you mentioned on your post.

Hi, Char - I'm glad to hear from you again and know that you are still working on the Bozarth/Bozorth family. Here is a copy of Abner Bozorth's will with my comments about the family at that time. The John and James Means, who witnessed Abner's will, were two of Fannie Means Bozorth's six brothers. Sorry that the hope you had that your Levi Bozorth was mentioned in Abner's orth didn't prove true. -- VirJean

WILL OF ABNER BOZORTH
Abner Bozarth died on February 13, 1818, according to a record page in his son William M. Bozarth's Bible published in 1834. He was 46 years old. Abner left his wife Fanny pregnant with their youngest son, Jonathan J. Bozarth, who was born on April 3, 1818, just three weeks after Abner's death. Fannie was then 41 years of age. The ages of the other children at this time were: Joseph S., age 20; Fanny, age 15 and 1/2 years; John Douglas, age 13; James (his middle name was probably Henry), age 12; Abner, Jr., age 9; Elizabeth, age 7; William M., age 5; and Samuel, age 2 and 1/2 years. After Abner's death the widowed Fanny married William Hardwick on September 20, 1821. This marriage was performed in Christian County, Kentucky by James Payne, the executor of Abner's estate and a Justice of the Peace.
Abner Bozorth made his will on February 6, 1818 in Christian County, Kentucky. He died one week later on February 13th. His will was produced at the March, 1818 Term in the Christian County Court. It was recorded on page 121 in Will Book C of the Christian County records. The number "121" appears mid-page in the left hand margin. Although the handwriting is clear, ornate, and only slightly slanted to the left of perpendicular, there are several miss-spelled words and little punctuation or capitalization in the document. The will reads:

Christian County State of Kentuck, Febry 6th 1818, In the name of God, Amen. This is my last will and testament. first, I recommend my body to be buried in a decent manner, and my soul to God who gave it, I now being in my perfect mind and senses. first, I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Fanny Bozarth the farm that I now live on while she remains my widow and if she marris the farm to be sold and the money to be put to interest until the youngest child is of age there is a young sorrel horse and a bay two years old in the spring and a little bay mare to be sold the negro man Isaac to be hired out and the money to go to the use of the family while my wife remains a widow & if she should marry then the money from that time to go to benefit of the children. also a negro girl named Moriah to remain in the family while my wife remain(s) my widow then to be hired out until the youngest child becomes of age, then she and her increase if any to be equally divided among the children. the house hold and kitchen and farming utensiels shall be the widow's. I do this day ordain and constitute & appoint James Payne my executor and my wife Fanny Bozarth executrix. I hereby have set my hand and seal this day and date above writen. Abner Bozarth {Seal}
Teste
John Means	James Means	}

Christian County Court
March Term 1818
The foregoing last will and testement of Abner Bozarth, Decd, was produced in Court and proven as required by law by several oaths of John & James Means subscribing witnesses thereto. And the same was ordered to be recorded. In testimony whereof, and that the same together with this certificate are truly recorded in my office of said County Court I have hereto set my hand.
Could she be Sarah Isabelle Shutt, the wife of Cary Bozarth (b. c1856)? He was the son of Addison Bozarth (1830-1871) and Mariah "Mariah" Kent (1834-1902) of McLean County, Illinois? SArah Shurr Bozarth was the mother of: Albert, Elton L., Mabel Ruth, George Oliver (b. 19 Jul 1892/d. Feb 1964), and William Elias. I have ancestors of Addison, but no other information of the Cary Bozarth family at this time. Mayve others will have further information for you.

I have Bozarth photos

I posted this somewhere but can't find it now. I have photos sent to me from Shirley Herrick and they belonged to Peggy Williams who died in 2003. Where is the best place to post them? Here is some information from her email to me that maybe someone will recognize.

Grandma Bozarth was Mrs. Sarah Bozarth. According to a 1939 article on
the front page of the Oregonian, she "homesteaded" in western
Washington state with her 5 children. I know in the early 1900's
through 1939 she lived in her own house on N. Mississippi Avenue in
Portland. In this 1939 newspaper article she was 80 years old, so her
migration with 5 children would have been about in the 1880's or 90's.
The photos I have include one with a husband later in age (age 60 or so
I'm guessing), but the newspaper article does not mention a husband. I
think she was widowed for a long time. Of the five children, one was
a dark haired girl who married a Williams, and her son was born Edward
Williams. I don't know what happened to the mother, but Grandma Sarah
Bozarth took him in at a young age and raised him, and then AFTER my
cousin was born, he legally changed his name. So, he was born Edward
Williams and died Edward Bozarth after changing his name as an adult.
There's were other sons and cousins, one boy who died at around age 12
of a bicycle accident on the Portland docks. His bicycle wheel got
caught between boards on the pier and he was thrown into the water and
drowned. (I'm hoping this story rings a bell with someone). Another
story is that my cousin Peggy visited her cousin Ruth in Astoria,
Oregon when they were teenagers. This would have been in the 1940's
I'm guessing.

The social security records show that Edward Bozarth (my cousin's
father) died in 1977 and I think he spent time in Tillamook, Oregon.
The verification for the death place of Henry Clay Bozarth, is in the application for "Indigent and Disabled Confederate Veterans or their Widows" It was filed by his widow, Mittie D. (Parker) Bozarth. KY law required that the information submitted by an applicant be vouched for by two competent witnesses. J.M. Tally and C.J. Gresham, both of Eddyville, KY stated that they had known the applicant for 40 years, her late husband for a "short time"; that Henry C. Bozarth died in Waco, TX, on 18 May 1877. Within this file are two Certificates of Discharge for Henry C. Bozarth. Also goes on to say, "Henry Bozarth could not return to his wife and home; they were under Federal control". This article is found in Bozarth Beacon, Volume IV, No. 4 page 304. This file in the Public Records Division of the KY Dept. of Libraries and Archives, P.O. Box 537, Frankfort, KY 40602

Ida BOZARTH b. 1884 New Jersey

I am trying to sort out what I think are two Ida BOZARTHs. Both (according to census) were b. 1884. Both are living in Vineland, Cumberland, NJ in 1900 census.

One Ida BOZARTH is shown in 1900 census (age 16), living with Hallick(?) HOUGH and mother Maggie HOUGH and sister Florence BOZARTH. I think this Hallick HOUGH could be the 2nd husband of Margaret MADDEN wife of William BOZARTH d. 1894 s/o Thomas BOZARTH and Susanna SANDERS. Not positive this is a correct assumption.

Maggie and Hallick HOUGH show in 1900 census to have been married 23yrs, which seems unlikely if Maggie has a BOZARTH daughter (Florence) aged 13.

There is an Ida BOZARTH is living as a border in 1900 census (age 15) with the family of Philip TURPIN. This Ida (Ida M. BOZARTH) then marries Philip's son William TURPIN on 11 Jul 1900 in Vineland, Cumberland, NJ

One Ida BOZARTH marries Aaron TOZER and eventually shows up in census in Cape May County, NJ.

In the 1910 census Ida BOZARTH/TURPIN, shows up living in Millville, Cumberland, NJ with daughter Florence TURPIN age 11mos. b. abt 1909, and her mother Maggie EPLER.

In 1920 census, Aaron TOZER, is living in Middle Twp., Cape May, NJ with wife Ida and daughter Florence TOZER (age 11 b. abt 1909)

So, I trying to find out:
1) if either Ida is the d/o William BOZARTH and Margaret MADDEN.

2) Did Maggie MADDEN m. 2nd Hallick HOUGH and 3rd ______ EPLER?

3) Is the Ida living with Hallick HOUGH on Jun 11, 1900, and the Ida living with the TURPINs on Jun 5, 1900, the same person?

4) Who are the parents of the other Ida who married Aaron TOZER?

5) Is Aaron TOZER's wife Ida, and William TURPIN wife Ida, the same person.

I am throughly confused. Any insight most appreciated.
JC Henry

I have the same marriage date of 1734. I don't know the source, but 10 trees in the system list her birth year as 1731, and I found no other date listed for her.
