BRADDON Surname DNA Project

A DNA project has been launched for the Braddon surname, along with any variations such as Braden, Bradon, Breeden, etc. The project uses testing on the male Y chromosome which is passed directly down the paternal line from father to son making it ideal for investigating surname lineages. The testing can be used to uncover, prove, or disprove connections between various Braddon lines and to also give clues about the deeper origins of the lineages.

Project participation is open to any direct paternal-line male Braddon descendant - i.e., a male whose last name is Braddon (or any variation of the surname) or a male whose biological paternal-line ancestry goes back to a Braddon but whose last name was changed at some point, such as due to adoption. Even if you are not a direct paternal-line male Braddon descendant, you can join the project by sponsoring the testing of a Braddon male from your immediate or extended family, such as a brother, son, father, uncle, male cousin, distant male cousin, etc.

Feel free to visit the Braden-Braddon project website for more details:

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/braden/

Also, if you are a Braddon that has already had Y-DNA testing done at Family Tree DNA, you can log into your account and use the Join Projects link to join the Braden-Breeden project.

Mike
Project Administrator
Braden-Breeden DNA Project

Hi Carole1903,
I came across your posting of 12 April 2006 while searching through Braddons and I am most interested in your research of your husbands line being Nicholas Braddon and Ann Legg. Nicholas the elder, the roof thatcher is a direct ancestor of mine through his son William. I would be delighted to exchange information as my wife and I have also been researching this family for many years.
You are correct Nicholas did die pre the 1851 Census - He died on 6th Feb 1848 - confirmed by certificate - but I am sure there much more to find out about the family by both of us.
I would be most pleased to discuss our findings either through this thread or my email address -
cst63663@bigpond.net.au. We look forward to hear from you - Regards Colin & Patricia.
Richard Kingdon Braddon

Hi All.

Just thought I'd throw my hat in the ring for the Braddons.

This Richard is the earliest I have in my tree, I think he would have been born around 1810. He married Mary Parson Ridgeman.

All my Braddons come from around the Treneglos/Warbstow area in Cornwall England.

There's probably a Boughton in there somewhere as well because that's a name that comes up a few times as a second name. I guess Kingdon could also be a surname from a female line as well somewhere.

Anyway, anyone one else out there with a link let me know. I've got a whole bunch of descendants of Richard.

Dave.

Hope the offer still stands - 3 years later! I am researching my husbands line and have a Nicholas Braddon born in Dartington in about 1837. I think his parents are Nicholas Braddon/Bradden and Ann Legg, married in Dartington in 1824. Nicholas the younger was a carpenter and moved to London between 1861and 1864. Nicholas the elder was a thatcher and seems to have died pre 1851 census. The other children I have are Anne, William, Henry and Richard. Do any of these people appear in your research? Thanks

I have been researching the Braddons for many years now and have reached back on my direct line probably as far as I can get , to the marriage of William Braddon and Margaret Bayly in Launcells, Cornwall in 1618. In the course of that research I have recorded hundreds of Braddon references, some relevant to my research - many not. I am only too happy to share these and to puzzle out together the missing pieces of jigsaws. I recognise Colin and Scott from previous correspondence and hope you are both well.
David.
