Searching for Mollie Brake who married James Walter Satterfield in 1894

I have been searching a long time trying to find Mollie Brake who was born in 1875 and married in 1894.I saw on her marriage certificate where a Jarmen Brake married them. I have searched his line of family thinking he or his brother Clark Brake, both ministers, could have been kin to her. I found a Mattie "martha Brake in 1875 in the line but not Mollie. I have gone throughout that family line and find nothing where Mollie would fit. The Mattie Brake in 1875 married a Warfield and so not my Mollie I am looking for.
Mollie Brake is my g grandmother. My daddy is Comer Pulley. His mother was Lela Satterfield. Lela's mother was Mollie Brake Satterfield. I was told that her parents were Clark and Nancy Brake but they led me to the girl Mattie Brake and Jarmin Brake the minister.
Anyone with any info please write back.

Mollie Brake and James Walter Satterfield married 1894

Can anyone give me any info on Mollie Brakes' family?
A good source told me that her father was Clark Brake and her mother was Nancy Winters Brake. But I can't find a Mollie listed in any of the children. She was born around 1870. I see a Martha "Mattie" Brake listed but no Mollie.
I know she married James Walter Satterfield in 1894. On the Marriage license it shows a Josanan Brake as the minister.
In Henry Clark Brakes family he has a brother named Jemerson born 1846 who is a minister but not a Jasonan. So I don't know if I am on the right track or not. None of the daugthers married a Satterfield that I can see. Any info on the Brake family who fathered Mollie Brake would be greatly appreciated.
I do not know if Mollie Brake was married before JW Satterfield. I don't think she was but could be wrong. I like to confirm everything I key into my tree. Any help is appreciated.
thanks, Betty Jane Pulley Felts

Hi Ed,
My name is Dianne Brake-Scott. My parents are Michael Edward Brake (March 29, 1925- May 15, 2007) Last week I came across some pics on Facebook of Edward and Josephine, as well as other Brake family members. They would be my Great, Great, Great Grandparents. Their son Edward married Elizabeth Benoit. One of their children is Joseph Brake who is my father's father. My cousin told me that Edward (Josephine) was the son of Edward Brake and Katherine Vardy. Lots of Edwards :D I find it so interesting to look back at our ancestors. I have Charts that my niece gave me but they follow up more on the Elizabeth Benoit side of the family tree (after Chart 1) but I'm not quite sure how to read them. Hopefully some day I figure it all out. I attached Chart 1. #16 and #17 is where Edward/Josephine fit in (I think). Dianne

Hi there,

I am researching my ancestors and believe Josephine Duval may be the sister of my great, great grandfather- Alexander Duval. I am trying to find more information on Alexander and his parents - Charles Duvual who I believe was married to Francoise Benoit. ( Francoise may also be known as Marguerite-Francoise Benoit.) I have found information on the Internet of her DNA indicating she was Native American. I would love to find more information on this.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Joyce

Refer to Puddeljumpers thread, I think we share info on our Brake line. It has links. But I did find at least 2 Ben's and a Michael but, they are on the east coast.
This fellow below was the only listing I found in the Brake tree w texas:

Brake, Joseph

B: 1807 Edgecombe, Edgecombe, N Carolina, USA

D: Sep 1847 - Polk, Texas, USA

Parents

Jesse Brake 1772 NC – 1835 NC, USA

Priscilla/Patience PRICE 1775 – 1854

Siblings

Rachel Brake 1802 – 1820

Wiley Brake 1803 – 1870

John Brake 1805 – 1825

William Brake 1811 – 1882

Pennina Brake 1817 – 1860

Jessie Brake's (Joseph's Grandparents) Parents:

Parents

Jacob Brake Sr. 1750 – 1830

Patience "Brake" 1755 – ?
It looks like your Texas Line may have originated in Edgecombe, North Carolina. But I still have holes in this tree and can't verify how accurate it is. Anyway, I hope this helps and you can look at my tree Frosig-Heinz, Mel's Melting Pot the Brake Line is under my daughter Haley Respress, her grt grt gpa Daniel married Harriet Brake of Alabama.

It would help to know a little more about Ben's family, but here is one possibility for you to consider. There was a Jacob Brake who emigrated from Germany in the early 1700s and eventually ended up in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. There is a very comprensive, but difficult to navigate, data base of his descendants at http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm/compoundobject/collection/F....

Jacob had a son, Benjamin, who died prematurely and unexpectedly (but not before he married and had children) and perhaps as a consequence, several ancestors in that branch of the tree have the first name "Benjamin".

Also, several descendants of Jacob settled in Texas just before, and after the original homestead of several hundred acres were relinquished because of legal actions.

I went through the list of descendants in the database and found a Benjamin Eugene Brake, but he was born in the late 1800s or early 1900s, so that's not your Ben. There are several "Benjamins) in the list, but all having either no middle name listed, or a middle names that starts with something other than "E.".

I belong to the Johann Jacob Brake tree who settled in Virginia (Jacob of North Carolina started out in Virginia), and there is some speculation that Johann and Jacob were brothers. My Johann was thought at one time to have descended from nobility in northern Germany, just as the introduction to the Jacob Brake database says he was (or might have been). The nobility connection for Johann has been proven to have no merit, and I am confident the same is true for Jacob of NC.

Good luck in your search! If you want to read about the Virginia Johann tree, you can do so at www.perrybrake.com/brakelinie.html.

I have 21 photos of the Brake family in IN, most likely descendants of George (b. 1826 in Baden) and Barbara (b. 1836 in Baden) and their children Sophia (b. 1859 in IN; possibly m. 1872 to George Mealy) and George S. Prech Brake (b. 1855 in IN, m. to Matilda Margaret Staubitzer b. 1857) - their children: Cora Ann (1879-1957) Estella Mae (1881-1925), George E. (1883-1936), Carl E. (1885-1927) and Bertha (1885-1893). Most of these are tin type photos. I'm hoping to find one of their descendants to share with. My relation to this family is that I am the G.Granddaughter of Matilda Margaret Staubitzer by another marriage, after she was widowed.
Photos will be shared with family members of interest. These books were in the possession of Estella Mae Brake originally. Her name is handwritten over some of the blank photo slots along with another name that is undecipherable. No other photos were labeled.

Hi Mike,
I am part of the Arens line that married with your Otten line in Ft. Wayne, IN. My grandmother was Henrietta Arens born in Fort Wayne. Her father was a Henry Arens and her grandfather was Bernard Arens (b. June 8 1842 in "Estervague" Germany) and his sister Elizabeth married a Nicholas Otten and they resided in Ft Wayne. It's just today that I came across Theckla Arens' obituary and saw her origins in Esterwegen. I had seen on my Arens's ancestors records Estervague but could never make sense of that. I am not sure where Theckla married into the Arens line but her obit shows sons Herman and Henry which are very common names in my Arens lines. Her obit says she arrived in Ft. Wayne 1874. Other surnames that show up in this part of my tree are Sinnigen, Avers, Hecke, Kessen and Becker.
My research got underway five or six years ago utilizing Fort Wayne newspaper obits and Allen County library resources.
Your post is old so I don’t know if you will get this, but I would love to share information.

Kay, I descend from Johann Jakob Brake who lived in Virginia. He returned to Germany, but his family remained in what is now West Virginia. Up until a decade or so ago, the thought was that he descended from the Dietrich and Douglas ancestors to whom you refer. This has been soundly disproved. If you go to www.perrybrake.com/BrakeLinie.html, I posted evidence that he was born "Jakob Brechtel" in Durlach (a suburb of Karlsruhe) in southern Germany. I am confident the same Dietrich/Douglas couple are not in the North Carolina Brake past, also. A Brake descendant paid a German researcher to look for the ancestral line. That so-called researcher fabricated the information. Some speculate that NC Jacob and VA Johann were brothers, but nobody has come up with evidence as far as I know. In the second paragraph of the web page cited above, you can find a link to a huge files on the NC Brake line.

I was told by some other Brake researchers that there weren't any such people. Including David Edwards who wrote a book about the Brake ancestry. He had placed those names (Mauri and Wilhelm)in his book and had to retract that whole line when he discovered the geneologist who provided the information was a "charlatan" (his description}. My name is Donna Brake White. Isn't that a coincidence since your name is Black.

The Brake Cemetery of Edgecombe County, NC is located about 1 mile east of the Rocky Mount city limits on NC Hwy 43. You can find a listing of the graves as of July 2005 which my husband and I did at USGenWeb North Carolina counties, Edgecombe, cemeteries. I am pretty sure there have been additional burials there but I don't get up there very often any more.

My assorted sources date our family line back to a Jacob Brake, Sr. no dates, son Jacob, Jr. 1750-1820 married Morning (1755-1815), son Jesse (1772-1835 married Patience PRICE 1824 (b 1775 d.1854), sone William b. 20 Sep 1811 d. 1882 married Catherine Griffin 15 Dec 1841 b. 18 Apr 1814 d. 02 Mar 1879, son Joseph Louis b 23 Mar 1847; d. 28 Nov 1916. From this point on I have a fairly complete listing of Brake family members up until about 2005.

Joseph and Mary Ann had 11 children one of whom was my grandfather, Joseph Luther child #7; b. 25 Jan 1886 d. 15 Feb 1962. He married Emma Harriet Fly b. 16 Jan 1891; d. 22 AQug 1973; m. 27 Jan 1909. They had 6 children my father, Joseph Samuel being the 4th. If you would like the entire tree after this point you can e-mail me directly at mapurvis65@yahoo.com and I will be glad to share what I have.

You can find the location of the Brake Cemetery in Hardy County, WV, by going to my web site, www.perrybrake.com, and clicking on "My Heritage" and then "The Germany Connection". My account of where John came from is a little different than yours, although my account leaves open the possibility that Jacob of Edgecombe County and Johann of Virginia were brothers.

On the page "The Germany Connection" is a link to a GEDCOM file of a few thousand descendants of John Brake of Hardy County. You may be in that file.

I would be most grateful for any information you have on the Brakes. Most especially the Brake cemetary location. I am a decendent of John Brake, who moved to Virginia in the mid 1700's. His brother Jacob stayed on their land in Edgecomb County. Samuel is one of his decendants.
Looking forward to hearing from you with the location of the Brake cemetary.
Thank you

There are two lines of Brakes which started in America in the early 1700s, one being the Johann Jakob Brechtel line I mentioned in my last posting which stemmed from VA/WV and generally migrated westward.

The other line is that of Jacob Brake of Edgecombe County, North Carolina who arrived in America about the same time as Johann Jacob. Many think the might have been brothers. You will be able to find a lot of info on that line by goggling "Jacob Brake Edgecombe".

With your great great grandfather being born in Germany, it is unlikely he fits in either of those lines. And it is likely his German name was not Brake...I spend 16 years in Germany, and the closest I came to finding any Brake ancestors was the many Brakke (not a typo) in northern Germany...Darmstadt is in southern Germany, not too far from Karlsruhe where Johann Jakob Brechtel was born. It could be that your GG grandfather was also a Brechtel, or perhaps Brecht/Bracht.

Mary, it would help if you could give us a little more info. When (year) and in what state was your mother born, and the same for your grandmother, if known. If you know when/where your grandmother died (if she HAS passed away) would also help.

I have a data base of some 8000+ Brake descendants of the Brake that originally settled in VA/WV, and I would think you descend from that same Brake line. You can review what I have gathered at www.perrybrake.com/brakelinie.html if you wish. You will see that I have recently found convincing evidence that the family name in Germany was Brechtel, and not Brecht, or Von Brake/Brecht as some previously thought. There was a lot of intermarriage between Bennetts and Brakes (my GGGG grandfather was William G. Bennett) and you might want to pass on the link above to Joanne.

One last note...I would imagine "Ollie" is actually Olive. If so, knowing that would help in the search.

I can trace Andrew Jackson Brake back to Johann Jacob Brake (Brechtel) who emigrated from Germany in the early 1700s. I also have five children for Andrew and Elizabeth: George B., Emma, Jackson, Charles, and Jehill. Jackson Brake had at least one child, Clifton, but other than him, I know nothing about offspring of other children of Andrew Jackson Brake.

I have and Andrew Jackson Brake (1826-1913), but I have Elizabeth Trout as his wife. Do you have any more information to see if I can match him?

There is a photo of your grandpa in "Colonel Edward Jackson, 1759 - 1828 - Revolutionary Soldier" by Nancy Jackson and Linda Brake Meyers. You might contact Linda (LBMeyers@comcast.net)and ask for a copy of the photo. If she doesn't have a copy to give you but has no problem with you obtaining a copy scanned from the book, let me know and I will do that for you.
