Brassau/Brasseau in Vermont

I am looking for any information on the Brassau family in Vermont in the 1800-1900s.

1. I would like to find out the correct spelling of the last name. By the time of my great grandmother it was spelled Brassau, but I have the feeling that maybe it was originally Brasseaux (?)

2. The first information I have in the family begins with Edward (Eduoard) Brassau and his wife Saloma (Salome) LaValley (LaVallee) who moved to the US from Canada at some time around 1854, I think. I have Edward's birth date bet 1822 and 1829 and Saloma as being born in Sep 1821. Edward's father is probably also an Edward. I believe that Saloma's fahter and mother are Mitchell LaVallee and Cecilia LaRock (LaRoque).

3. I have Edward and Saloma's children as being Albert A., Olive E., Julia, Samuel, George, Hattie H., Loretta, Nelson David and William. All were born in VT, either Orwell, Franklin or Middlebury.

4. After Edward died in 1878 it seems that many of his children were left to the poor house.

5. My ancestor was Edward's son, Albert A. Albert married Ella Smith on 19 Nov 1883. After Albert died it seems his children were also left in the poor farm. Ella Smith was born about 1864 in East Middlebury, VT. Albert and Ella had at least 4 children Juliette, Rebecca, Mabel Eliza (my great grandmother) and Eva.

Any information you have on this family, especially the ancestors would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi,
I know of Hattie, but I have her marrying John W. Kenworthy in 1883 and divorcing him before 1900. I didn't know she married a Duprey afterwards.

My forefather is Hattie's brother, Albert A. Their parents were Edward (Eduoard) Brassau/Brasseaux and Saloma LaVallee (LaValley) both from Canada. I have lots more info I'd like to share.

You can contact me at mhconant@yahoo.com

My great grandfather was Willie Brasseaux and was born in 1894. However, to my knowledge he was a farmer (the 20 acres and a mule thing) and his only daughter was born in 1921. Do you have any other information, such as where he lived? My great grandfather lived in Opelousas, Louisiana and his daughter inherited the family property when he died. Her youngest son has it now.

HI,
My name is Sherryl Brasseaux. I don't know if this will help or not but I heard of a Paul Brasseaux in the Gonzales, Louisiana area. I don't know anything about this person other than his name. The had a home loan with the same company as us and our payments got posted the his account. That is all I know about this person. The family is small so he has to be related somehow. If you wish, you can contact me via e-mail. scbrasseaux@aol.com

Caution!

to anyone searching ancestry.com's world tree for Brasseaux family, be VERY careful and double check EVERYTHING you take from this site. I have been double checking what I have printed out of family history and have found many inaccuracies. Most of them are due to the fact that first names are often repeated in all the families, so these are probably honest mistakes and may be typos in some cases. I will be eventually posting my list which I have gotten directly from Father Hebert's archived record books, with as much detail as possible. Please bear with me as it is taking me a while. And just to let you know, the DG who was looking for her family just spent the week with all of us. We are much better for knowing her. Hope she hasn't changed her mind since meeting her family in the flesh.
