You sent a post that Lidia's father was Abraham Freed,(b1812) son of Peter Freed (b1792) son of Paul Freed (b1755) and Mary? son of Jacob (b1732) & Elizabeth Haffeltracker.
We are descended from your Paul Haffeltracker Fried (b 1756) but we only have records for 3 children, John (b1773)Jacob(b1777)and Mary (b1780). Paul sold his property in Shenandoah Virginia and went to Fayette PA in 1797 supposedly after his wife died. Do you have documents that he was also the father of Peter (b1792)? It's possible but we don't have any records of that.

Greetings,
I'm Joseph M. Brest. I am interested in finding out more about our surname "Brestovansky." I have an ID badge from my father's father "C.M. Brestovansky." I know that our original surname was Brestovansky and my uncle Paul changed it to "Brest" approximately seventy years ago.

We've seen where the Brest family is from PA and I have visited there when I was a teenager. All I know is that they were cousins of mine.

I would like to know actually what country our ancestors are from. I believe it's Hungary, however, we have no documentation that verifies this.

I do know that some of the grandchildren have reinstated the original surname "Brestovansky" back as their own.

Please email me with any information you may have.

Hope this has helped you as well.

Thank you and God Bless,

Joseph Martin Brest,
Enon, Ohio

I have a John BREST that was b.1874 that was married to a Tillie b. 1869, but I have no children listed for them. He was the son of Lewis Francis BREST, my Gr-Gr-Grandfather. I don't know if he is your grandfather or not. If he is your grandfather, then we have a common gr-gr-grnadfather. He might be your Gr-grandfather, but I need more information to fill in the holes.
John.

does anybody out there know of a BREST Greenhouse that was located in New Castle, PA (Shenango Twp) back in the 1940's/50's? The frame is still standing, it is behind someone's house. I understand that Mr. BREST sold it to a Mr. BRUBAKER. I have talked to several people in the area that remembers it, or actually worked there as a youngster, but cannot recall Mr. BREST's first name (they just called him Mr. BREST). It seems that he had a son John who is said to have been a large man, and a daughter as we.., also whose name they cannot recall.

Dear Soisson 1852, We are very close to each other. I live about 2 miles east of the OH. line on a little horse farm. Your Great Grand father Peter was my Great grandmother Clara Jessie's brother. My Grandmother was her daughter
Cass (Jean). I know that Peter is buried in Hubbard. It is his great grandchild Paul's adopted son that has his medal. I think there is enough Brest descendents locally to put our resources together and try to acquire it from this guy. I know who he is! Please feel free to contact me at dedinburg6@aol.com I have some interesting stuff. ...David

Hi tlberry82, My name is David and I also am decended from Louis F.Brest. Your Grandfather Peter was my Great grandmother Jesse's brother. According to her obituary (1956)Peter was living in California at the time. Where are you at? I'm in New castle,Pa. I just found a lot of this info. out because of the stories my Grandmother told me about her grandfather, who was wounded (shot in the neck) in the civil war and was shell shocked and would dive under the bed during a thunder storm. Them I met a local and his name was Brest and told me that Louis was wounded and recieved the medel of honor. So I researched it and found that he was the guy my Grandmother used to tell me about back in the early 80's. Louis had a Grandfather Andrew(born 1794) who was in the War of 1812 and was the son of David Brest and Catherine (Wise) Brest (they were both born in the 1770's).I Have picture's of Louis, both as a young man and in his later years and found a relative who has some family reunion pictures from around 1912. Loius's medel of honor is in the possesion of a non related family member (diviorce and remarriage ?)He maybe from Peter's line. Someone said he lived in Las Vegas and was trying to sell the medel(it's illegel to buy or sell those) It would be nice to have it in the Mercer Co. Historical society's possesion along with his picture and war history and family tree (they have a lot of info on Louis). I personnaly don't think our name was shortened. My grandmother used to say it was a Dutch name, Their are Van Brest out there. It could have been French Hueganot who fled France, went to the Netherlands and then here to America. I will say this though, My grandmother had very high cheek bones, to the point that we all thout she had Indian in her. Then I seen the picture of Louis and he had those high cheek bones too. Brestovansky sounds Polish or Russian and if Slavic blood would be in there, that would explain the high cheek bones. I just don't know of much immigration from those two countries in the 1700's.....Please get back to me at dedinburg6@aol.com Hope we can be of help to each other..David ps. excuse my spelling, there's no spell check on here.

Lewis Francis was also my Gr-Gr Grandfather, my Gr-Grandfather was James Albert Brest, and my grandmother was Grace Adalaide.
I have seen some people have James Albert listed as Bertram, but his name was actually Jame Albert. He did go by Bert as a nickname, however. And I never heard of the name being shortened. I think they were English, but have no documentation on that. tlberry82, if you would like to exchange info, eMail me at t6orsha@yahoo.com.

Lewis Francis Brest is my GGrandfather. My grandfather was Peter. All Peter's children all have passed away. My mother was Genevieve. I read on another post that the surname was changed from Brestovansky. Is that true? If it is, I never knew that. If you want any information on the Brest line, I have some info you might be interested in.
I just began researching this family yesterday, after learning that Peter and Maude Lyons Brest were the parents of Elsie, who married Louis Baldwin Burton, my mom's first cousin.

I have been searching for this Burton family for a few years now. Does anybody know anything else about Elsie? She may have died in Los Angeles Co CA, which is where her husband died in 1955, but I cannot locate a death record for her. Lou and Elsie had four daughters, at least two of whom are deceased. I'd very much like to try to contact the other two, if still living (my 2nd cousins, Lillian and Mary Louise, married names unknown). They would be first cousins to the children of Myrtle Brest and Walter Brest, whose names are mentioned in this thread.

Also, does can anybody tell me more about an Arther Lyons, who was age 13 "boarder" in the 1920 household of Peter and Maud? I am wondering if he could be a half-brother to Peter and Maud's children. I have a photo of him, probably taken in 1930's, standing in front of my grandparents' home in Cleveland OH and would very much like to find out what ever happened to him.

I also have a photo of two of Elsie Brest's daughters (Lillian and Alice), with my mom and her siblings, taken about mid 1930's.

Since I have pretty much hit a "dead end" trying to find this family through their Burton side, I'm hoping to get some new leads now through their Brest relatives, and would appreciate any help.

Would it be possible to e-mail me the photo of Peter and Maud please?

My e-mail address has changed. It's now jad331xbellsouth.net (please substitute@ for the "x").
Thanks very much.
Judy in Georgia
Her parents were William (Henry) E. Hendersonb Brest and Lizzie Curkendoll. Don't know when she was born, but a brother and sister of hers were born 1873, 1874. This picture appears to have been taken after 1900 and was taken in Kalamazoo, MI.

Do you think there is a connection to your Brest line?
I recently came across the headstone of Jessie Brest at the Savannah Cemetery, New Castle, PA. She died in 1953. Nest to her is Chester Brest (1910-1981). I believe her to be the daughter of Lewis Francis Brest. But she was married to George Ellwood Moon and had 9 children. He died 5 years after she did. I found it curious that she had her maiden name on her stone. Although it is possible that she is a different person, but not likely.

Your great grandmother and my great grand mother were sisters - according to my relationship calculator that makes us 3rd cousins. Glad to meet you!!!! I have some information about the Brest - although I followed more of Bessie. I'd certainly love to compare notes. I don't know if you get my email with the reply - but it is rwmillerjr@adelphia.net
