Seeking Information Regarding Butlers/Bretons in Canada & Maine

I am afraid that I have reached a wall in my research regarding the Butler/Breton side of my family. What I have been able to establish so far is that my great-grandfather was George Butler (born around 1885) who married Amanda Paradis and lived in Maine. George’s parents were Felix (abt 1860) and Mary Butler (also abt 1860) from Canada (French), who at some point (probably early in their lives) migrated to Maine. I am seeing the town of Rockwood mentioned, as well as a Fairfield and various spots of Somerset County, Maine.

I have been told by family that the Butler’s were called Breton due to being English in a French Canadian area, also it appears that Felix’s mother or grandmother was an indigenous woman. I am looking for any information on this family, especially the names and localities of Felix’s parents.

I am a descendant of Thomas Laroche by his son Alfred who stayed in Québec after Thomas moved to the USA in 1902.

What we know about this story is that Thomas and Célénire adopted a baby before they left. The name we have is: Yvonne Roberge.

There are three possibilities:
l. She was the child that Celenire had with Damasse Grenier, her first husband.

2. Celenire s sister Caroline married a man called Pierre Roberge and had 2 children: Lea Roberge and Yvonne Roberge.

3. She is a child that Thomas and Celenire adopted from the Black Lake Orphanage(which is a little town near Halifax, where they were living).

If it is possible for you maybe you could send us the date of birth of Yvonne. We could see if your infomations you have matches with ours.

Have a nice day!

Hi there Cathean-
Im doing family research too and my Grandfather was George R Waldron who lived in Cranston and just passed away less than 10 days ago. He also suffered from dimentia/alzheimers so seeing your note made me think. Wondering who you are?
It appears that Otis Butler was my Grandmother's (Frances (McSheehy) Waldron) great Grandfather.
Talk soon!
Otis Butler and Christina were my great-great grandparents. Their son William was the father of Allie who was the father of my father George Allie. For years I've been trying to find more info on Otis but its been a road block. We have very few living relatives to talk to as the family is scattered and my fathers only living sibling now has dimentia so no info can be obtained there. Any info available will be a very warm welcome.

William Clayton Cook--husband of Sarh Prater b 1807

William Clayton Cook
m 3/22/1829 to Sarah Prater (b 1807).

Sarah is daughter of Jonathan Prater and Mary Breton, granddaughter of Archibald Prater.

Where was he during the census of 1840 and 1850?
At the time of the census of 1840, Wiley Cook, their son was too young to be married. Neither Wiley nor his father were listed on the census. On the census of 1850, Wiley is found in Floyd County, KY as a newlywed.

In a couple of postings, I have seen his death listed as 1860 in Magoffin,KY. Does anyone know if this is correct? Does anyone know if the Cooks were a family all this time?

I am a descendant of their youngest son, Miles Cook and Marinda (Rindy) Jane Purcell. Thank you for any help you may be able to offer.
Vicki Roberts

Your message is a little old but if it helps, bear in mind the Spanish Breton's lived in both Cuba and Mexico. I know this because I have Breton family in both places. Coincidentally enough both were and are ranchers. The Cuban Breton's were big time ranchers. I mean thousands of acres and heads of cattle, horses, sugar cane, etc.. Very well off family with property thru-out Cuba. Lost everything to Castro. Brothers of the Cuban Breton's were doing the same thing in Mexico, Tlaxcala. Sanchez is a common middle name or prefix to The Spanish Breton's. "Sanchez-Breton". Some of this info may may be helpful.
