Alexander Brewster's mulatto children in Louisiana, U.S.A.

I am a direct descendant of an Irish born Alexander Brewster that fathered several mulatto Brewster children in Louisiana. My great grandfather Tobe is one of his sons. I am seeking photographs, family ancestry and stories.

All I know thus far is that his wife was believed to be German with red hair and that he was very kind to my great grandfather until about a certain age, and then the story trails off. My grandfather spoke very little of him.

FYI-I have had an autosomal DNA test done.

Heather:
I am interested in William J. Brewster (1844 - 1921). I think he is the William A Brewster you refer to.

William J. Brewster was born in Jan 1844 in Nova Scotia to William J. Brewster (b. abt 1808 in Centerville, Kings County, Nova Scotia – d. Pereaux, Kings County, Nova Scotia 1871) and Margaret Mcclanaugh (b. Nova Scotia 1824 – d. Long Beach, Nova Scotia 1871).

His siblings were:
Watson Brewster (1840 – 1908)
Charles Brewster (1845 – 1908)
Joseph Hatfield Brewster (1848 – )
Susan Emmeline Brewster (1853 – 1904)
Mary A. Brewster (1858 – )
Prudence Brewster (1861 – 1903)
Margaret A. Brewster (1864 – )

William J. Brewster was a ship carpenter and ship builder all of his life. William emigrated to Maine in about 1865, where he married Alice Ann Huntley (b. Maine 1847 – d. Kent, King County, Washington 1927) in 1865.

Alice's parents were George J. Huntley (b. abt 1816 in Nova Scotia, d. aft 1880 in East Machias, Washington County, Maine) and Hannah Decker (b. abt 1817 in Gouldsboro, Hancock County, Maine, d. 13 Feb 1881 in East Machias, Washington County, Maine). George and Hannah were married on 11 Oct 1838 in Gouldsboro, Hancock County, Maine.

After their marriage Alice and William Brewster lived in East Machias and Machiasport, Washington County, Maine from 1865 to 1883, during which time they had six children. In 1883, they moved from Maine to Washington, where they had one more child.

Their children were:
William H. Brewster (1866 – )
Emma Alice Brewster (1869 – 1954)
Nina Belle Brewster (1871 – 1950)
William Sheldon Brewster (1875 – 1947)
Sarah Abigail Brewster (1878 – 1961)
Lillian Blanche Brewster (1882 – 1907)
Harry Maitland Brewster (1886 – 1950 )

William worked as a ship builder at the Seattle harbor for many years. They lived in Seattle until about 1905, then in Kent until they died, William on 6 Oct 1921 and Alice on 12 Mar 1927.

Below is information drawn from the death notice and the obituary of their daughter Emma Alice Brewster, both published in the Seattle Times on 15 Feb 1954, page 29:

Rites Set For Mrs. John W. Pearson
Funeral Services for Mrs. Emma Brewster Pearson, a Seattle pioneer, will be held at 1 o'clock tomorrow in the Kent Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wahelli. Mrs. Pearson, of Kent, died in a hospital Saturday. She became ill a week ago. A native of East Machias, Maine, Mrs. Pearson came to Seattle with her parents in 1883. She witnessed the great fire of 1889. Mrs. Pearson and her husband John W. Pearson moved to Kent in 1905. Mr. Pearson, an early steamboat engineer and later a farmer, died in 1935. She was a member of the Kent Seventh Day Adventist Church. Surviving are three sons, Albert S. and Neil S. Pearson, both of Seattle, and Thomas W. Pearson, Kent, a sister, Mrs Sara Cooley, Victoria B.C., eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Any information you have on William J. Brewster or his family would be helpful.

Charles Bryden
Union City, California
charles@bryden.name
Re: James Brewster/William Brewster

My father was Horace Lee Brewster, born in Lousiana in 1925. He was an only child, and was killed in an auto accident in 1952, shortly before my second birthday. My grandfather was Dutch Brewster, and my great grandfather was James Ellis Brewster. Without looking at my records, I believe James Ellis was either the son or grandson of James Brewster, who was one of Young Calahan Brewster's brothers. The other brother was Hazard Brewster. My father is buried in the Georgetown, Lousiana cemetery along with his parents Dutch and Lula, and his grandfather James Ellis Brewster. I have yet to make it back there but plan to one of these days. I live in Anchorage, Alaska along with my wife, Monica. Would appreciate hearing from you, and particularly whether you have had any success in tracing our genealogy back to William Brewster and the Mayflower!

Looking for the parents of Daniel A. Brewster born in N.J. in 1842 and died in kansas in 1911 and his sister Amanda Belle Brewster born in N.J. in 1844 and died in Kansas in 1902. Amanda or Anna as she was known was abducted by Indians in 1869 and gave birth to an Indian baby. Daniel was a soldier and am guessing served in the civil war before moving to Kansas in 1866. Anna came to Kansas shortly after. If any knowledge of who these two's parents might have been you can email me at danw02@comcast.net

William Brewster who would be James brother I think out of NY..if same family are related to Rev. Nathaniel Brewster who was also well known. We just did a DNA test to disprove the Mayflower Elder Brewster relation. We need a provable line to Rev Nathaniel to verify with accuracy. Welcome to view my lineage but I am still verifying this data currently.

Brewster Family PA, Kansas, Indiana.. HELP!!!

Hello,
I am trying to piece together this family and I have run into many issue's due to several people have different information. Whether we are related to the Elder Brewster.. Shrugs, who knows at this point.
I have James Lewis Brewster b; 1907 in Ohio to Lewis/Louis W. Brewster and Mary Elizabeth Bellis. James married Thelma Bunch about 1942.
Now here is where it gets a little dicey lol. I have Lewis/Louis W. Brewster in a 1900 census with his parents G.W. Brewster and R.H. Brewster, living in Montgomery Co, Kansas. Now I am assuming by what I have been able to look up, that G.W. Brewster is George Washington Brewster and R.H. Brewster is Rachel Hannah (Bebout) Brewster.

Another census showing George Brewster(1870 census)living with Michael Brewster age 56, and siblings Sarah age 25 and Susan age 18, Adams Co, Indiana...I am wondering who Michael is?? I'm lost lol

Everything else I find says George's father is Jackson Brewster born Abt 1814, Masontown, Fayette,Pennsylvania and married Mary ann martin.. Which of course means Thomas Benjamin Brewster and Mary Lewis are his parents. When I do a search for Elder Brewster descendants it shows a Andrew Jackson Brewster, son of Thomas B. Brewster, but it lists Andrew Jackson's wife ad Lydia Nash not Mary Ann Martin.

Can someone PLEASE clear this up..

Thanks
Tami

Brewster, Mary Lavinia Truelove Freelove Newcombe calhoun

This person is listed in some ancestry trees with this name or parts of name like Mary Brewster or Mary Truelove Brewster or Lavinia Freelove Newcomb. One tree says she is the stepdaughter of Ann Brewster (née Pineo) so her father would be William Brewster born in Nova Scotia 1775 but I can't find any real documentation of this person. My wife has a family history filled out by her grandfather who has one of the children with name of "Corma?" so I wonder if that might be this person since I've been able to track down all of the other children in the family history. Mary married a Captain John Calhoun jr in 1827 and a Barnaby Newcombe in 1862 according to some of the family trees in ancestry.com. But hard to tell if this is really the same person.

I can trace back to Henry Brewster b Abt 1670 married Esther Goe 17/10 1695 at North Luffenham church. Esther died 25/11 1741, buried N. Luffenham church. No trace of either christening or fore-bears burials at N luffenham, and no trace of Goe family - poor Esther just appears. Where did my Brewsters come from ? . It seems odd that almost no-one seems to be interested in this Brewster family. Please advise if you have any information or can point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Male descendants born to Brewster male descendants of Elder William all carry his Y-DNA, which of course came from his father and his father before him as well. There is much information available about DNA on the web if you are interested in learning more.

Thanks again,
Jeanne E.
