Hi Barry

I have recently found that another Brick from the first marriage of Patrick Brick and Mary Houran ended up in New Zealand (John Brick I think off the top of my head) and I have the contact details for a descendent of his who has done some of the family tree but does not know about the other siblings (and not about a second marriage of Patrick Brick to Ellen Falvey). I can get you some contact details if you are interested.
Claire

John L. Sullivan's parents were Michael and Catherine Kelly Sullivan. John L's first marriage was to Annie Bates of Rhode Island. His second marriage was to Kate Harkins later in his life. There was never a wife named Margaret. He also had only one child, John L Jr, who died at two years of age. My great grandmother was his sister.

Michael and Ellen Barrett Brick, Ennismore Kerry
I'm researching a Barrett/Brick family. My great grandaunt, Ellen Barrett(1864) appears to have married Michael Brick(abt 1861) someplace in Kerry although I don't know where...the marriage MAY have taken place around 1887...the Irish genealogy site does not have the marriage listed unless I overlooked it...I have found baptismal records for several of their children including John(1888)in Ballymacelligott(family was living in Ballyseedy); Edmond(1889)in Ardfert(family living in Abbeylands)and Catherine(1891)Tralee family living on Gallows Lane. The family appears to have settled near Ennismore after that. Their daughter Mary Brick was baptized in 1893. In the 1901 census, the family lived in the townland of Coolagowan, Ennismore DED and in 1911 the family lived in Poulnahaha, Ennismore DED. Other children included Ellen(1896) Margaret(1899)( She may have later married a "Doyle"; Bridget(1904) and Michael(1908).

I've found Edmond Barrett's death record...Edmond was the father of Ellen Barrett Brick and my great great grandfather. Edmond died on November 1,1909...he had been residing near Dromloughra and Gortnaminch in Kerry at the time of his death. He MAY be buried in the Finuge graveyard. The informant on his death record was Michael Brick who would have been Edmond's son-in-law..

I'd be interested in hearing from any descendants of this family or from anyone who knows anything about this family.

I've since found that Michael Brick the son, married in 1940. He married Bridie Ryan and they had several chidlren.
There is a story about a Pharmacist in CO. He is a very caring man, who will sacrifice his profits so that the people of this small, remote town can get the medicine they need. A stranger comes to this town ,he calls himself Tim, although he keeps mostly to himself, he does befriend the Pharmacist..Tim becomes ill and before he dies at the age of 91 leaves his stocks to the Pharmacist. This is how he finds out that his real name is Penrose Brick, descendant of the Penrose's of Philadelphia.I could not believe it when I saw your search which contains the names Timothy, Brick, and Penrose.
I live in a Southwestern suburb of Philly, not far from West Chester,
another suburb of Philly. When I saw this story in The New Yorker Magazine, I began to Google the names and I found your query and I was
very excited.
New Yorker is a weekly magazine. I'm sorry I don't know the week because my husband gave it to a Pharmacist he knows. I can tell you it
was in September. I hope this can help you with your search, and I would like to know if you have any success.
Best of Luck!
Cathy Wilson
To Patrick and Ellen Brick, 5 girls Anna,Maureen, Joan,Nell, and Nora. Patrick known as Percy died in NZ, Dan,died in Peckham,David who died inGalway, Tom died in Ipswich 1999. Anna died In Sheffield. Maureen lives in Luton, Joan and Nell live in Tralee. Would love to learn more. My grandmother Ellen did go to Boston at the age of 13 with her 2 sisters, but because she hadn't been invited by her aunts unlike her sisters, didn't receive the welcome she wanted. She worked there as a cook and then returned to Ireland and married Patrick Brick and had 10 children in all, however unfortunately the youngest John died an infant.

Ellen, b. 27 Sep 1844, C. Clare, Ireland (according to internet postings) m. William "Allen" Redman and they ended up in Cairo, IL. I found Ellen in the 1860 Memphis census as a "servent" in the Morris house. I found 1851 immigration report for William Brick, wife and six kids inc. an Ellen who was 8 1/2 yrs old. That's all I have. Wm. Brick is a farmer; they are from Ireland.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

I am pretty certain that the Valentia ones are not from the same Michael and Mary Falvey....I think there were two couples by the same name. Apart from Johanna b 1854 who must have died young, I know about all the others. Marcus, John, Michael (my great grandfather) and Mary came out to New Zealand and Bridget (m Cornelius Coakley) and Ellen moved to the USA.
Yes I did notice the spelling issues with Gurrane! Spelling was not a big thing apparently. Obviously things were not great in Ireland for them all to have moved away and there are several other cousins who also moved to NZ and others moved to the US.
Claire

My mother's father was the Timothy Brick who was one of twins born either 24 or 27 Dec 1884 in the rural district of Killarney, Co Kerry. He emigrated to New York City in 1902-1904 where he worked on the street railways for many years. He had a son Maurice who lived in northern NJ. Timothy died in 1969.

We know much less about his twin Lizzie, other than she married Thomas Murphy and I believe they settled in the NY area also.

I believe Timothy and Lizzie's sister Honora (we have her as Nora) also emigrated to NYC. The Ellis Island data indicate Lizzie came to NYC in 1905 and was bound for her sister Nora's residence on West 49th St in Manhattan.

Patrick Brick (we had his birth as 20 Mar 1876) emigrated to NYC in 1896-7, was in Rochester for a while, but ended up a policeman and homeowner in NYC until his retirement in 1934.

I remember meeting "Uncle Dan" in the early 60's at my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary in the Bronx (NYC) - obviously he was in his 90s but still getting around.

I'm so glad you posted your information - we had always wondered who Timothy's parents were, and the information we had about the other siblings was spotty at best.

I would be glad to exchange further information if you are interested.

Hi again. my email is clairemfalvey@hotmail.com and I would love to swap info. Ellen Falvey was born in the 1860's so yes there was an age difference. I do not know what happened to the Brick's once they went to the USA. All I know is they went there and my great grandfather (Ellen's brother) left her some money when he died. I have a cousin who has told me she thinks they may have gone to California, but I have not been able to find anything.
Claire

Hi Claire,
I think this is Patrick Brick's second marrige. His first wife was Mary Houran. They married in 1865.I notice that Gurrane is spelled many different ways.Daniel is Patricks Father. I think it is the same Patrick that married Ellen Falvey on May 25 1899.She was much younger than Patrick(the old dog!)I find them living at house 4 in Garraun(Kilanare,Kerry.Maurice was Baptised on July 23 1900 near Castlemaine. The other Bricks live at house 5 Garraun.I have more information on the Bricks but I am very interested in Ellen Falvey and their son Maurice. Hope to hear from you soon. Barry Brick

Hi, There is a small group of us who have and are attempting to sort out the families of the Keel and Kiltallagh, Castlemaine area and what became of them. Do you know what became of this Bric/Brick family of Gurrane, Co. Kerry who were baptized Catholic in Kiltallagh, Castlemaine, Co. Kerry ? Look forward to hearing from you in regards to this. I noticed you do not mention the son, Maurice or the daughter Ellen, or that the parents were related to each other. Thanks, Mary tmlein@insightbb.com
http://castlemaine.multiply.com

I have an Ellen Falvey (born in Gurrane 1863) married a Patrick Brick in 1899 in Tralee. Patrick's father was listed as Daniel Brick.
I am not sure where Patrick or Daniel were born or lived and I know VERY little about them, apart from that Patrick and Ellen had a son Maurice in Gurrane in 1900 and later moved to the USA (not sure where).

Its possible there is some kind of link somewhere as I do not know where the family ended up in the US and would love to find out more about them.
Claire
