Hello, I'm searching for relatives of my mother, Ruth Brickman Schorr. Her father was Hyman (Chaim) Brickman and had 7 sisters, he wasvthe only son. I remember my mother talking about an Aunt Jenny & an Ida. My grandfather was also from Poland/ Russia. Mom, grand father lived on the lower East side of NYC, but I remember her saying that her aunts lived in NY, Atlanta, Chicago and I believe somewhere out west. Any connection?

William Brickman from Prussia

I've exhausted all known sources. I'm looking for any information on my g-grandfather Wm. Brickman b. abt. 1831 in Prussia (prob Germany side). His wife was Ernestna (or Ernestina or Anstenia Geisler? Brickman) They had a son, my g-uncle Louis born abt. 1858 in Prussia. Then they moved to America and settled in NW Ohio, just south of Toledo, before their second son, my g-grandfather Samuel was born at abt. 1860. Ancestry.com has failed to provide any further information as to Wm. Brickman's birth location in Prussia. Any guidance or information is much appreciated.

This is great for you, but I doubt this is the same Louis that would be my great uncle. Here's my Brickman side:

William and Anstenia (maiden name?) Brickman were born around 1831 in Prussia. I've also seen Mecklenburg, Germany. I'm not sure on the accuracy of either two. But they had Louis in 1858 while still in Prussia then sometime before the 1880 US census came to Ohio (south of Toledo). They had the remainder of their children here in Ohio: Samuel (My great-grandfather), Sarah, William F., Minnia, Anna and Etta.

My great-grandfather Samuel (b. 1860 - d. 1929) married Ana Maria Robinson who had my great grandmother Donna B Brickman who had my grandfather Roger Shoop.

I'm looking for Jewish heritage but I'm not sure where to look to prove it. It's one thing to simply say Brickman is a Jewish name and another to prove my ancestors were actual Hebrews/Jews.

I sent you a PM, sorry, I didn't know when you'd read this posting. Thanks for taking time to converse.

James ... I hope this helps. This is the Brickman lineage. As far as I know only two of his decedents still consider themselves Jewish. Here is the line

David and Edith Brickman (Brykman or Brickmann) (1820’s – 1880’s) Latvia

Their son was Louis H Brickman
Louis H Brickman has David and Melferd Brickman

David Brickman had Jaclyn and Lelesy Brickman
Jaclyn had Kelly and Jeremy
Lelesy had Mathew Sarah Kaeb and Aaron

Melferd had
Robert and Paul
Robert had two marriages and six children: Andrew, Tom, John, Joshua,
Kurt, Jacob
Paul has Peggy, Barbara, Suzy and Bill

That is the line. I hope that this helps you. Louis Brickman and his sons were definitely Jewish.
Thanks for the info.

How can we be sure just because the surname is Brickman that they are Hebrew/Jewish? I would like this to be true, but how can I be absolutely sure?
Thanks for the link for Cleveland Jewish News. I will check that out.
Also, I just know they were from Prussia according to the first census they took when they arrived to their final destination around Findlay, OH. I'm kind of at a loss as to where to look as far as German records. Any more suggestions is much appreciated.
James

First, Germany then is not Germany today. For example much the the western area of Latvia was originally German. So this would depend on if when your family lived in Europe was it in a place that is not Germany today? For example my Brickman side of the family was in a town that was German than and is now Latvia. Do you know the town they originally are from in Germany?

Second, yes if the connect is right they were Jewish in Europe.

Another source for you to search is the Cleveland Jewish News as they have death notices of many many Brickman family members that I do not know of and also the Cleveland paper has notices further back that often refer to the clergy who preformed the service. Marriage records might also help.

The Brickman family I am related to started in Toledo and moved to Cleveland and were in the wall paper business.

My great grandma was Donna Brickman (Shoupe), her dad was Samuel Brickman and Ana Maria (Robinson), whos dad was William Brickman (Mecklenburg, Germany) and Arnstena Geisler. They ended up around McComb, Ohio. It's about 40 miles south of Toledo, Ohio.

Were your ancestors Jewish by chance? I'm trying to find a Jewish connection in my family and I know Brickman is a Jewish name.

Hello E
This is Dave Brickman outside Chicago. My father was John Robert b.1929 from West Cleveland, grew up in Lima, OH. His father was John Nelson b.~1909 in Cleveland. I am new at this game, but just surfing came across this board. The most fascinating comment I have yet read anywhere in the past 5 years on this subject was in your March 27 posting.

Word from my dad was that my great-grandfather's name was John Theodore. I have a couple pictures of him at his son's house in Cleveland holding my father as a baby. My dad said that when their ancestors came over on "the boat" that the U.S. changed our name from Bruckmann to Brickman. I would be so grateful to find out if this Franz is my direct descendent!!! I have never been able to locate any info on John Theodore (probably born ~ 1890) much less a more distant direct relative!! Truthfully I never thought the Bruckmanns existed-what a great surprise!! :)

Please email me if you have time! Thanks so much! VTY, Dave dakrapper@comcast.net

Not sure of the source.
Lewis Brickman married Mary Wanamaker in New Jersey around 1787, and then Olive "Aule" Crouter around 1806(probably Ameliasberg vs Sohiasberg).
Suspect Katherine Brickman, who married Henry Fox, is Lewis Brickman's sister.
Hope this helps.

Bob Brickman: Wash DC Aug 22 1945 Farewell Dance Photo

I have acquired an old photo that was taken on Aug 22, 1945 at a farewell dance, held at the Wordman(Wardman)Park Hotel for PAW(I have know idea what PAW stands for).
In this photo besides my mother: Margaret(Bradley)Nelson are

Bob Brickman, Mildred Lynch, Mr & Mrs Frank Wilson,
Evelyn and Gerry Reese. I have no idea where my dad
Arvo Alfred Nelson was at this point(mabe taking this photo -?) I would like to learn who these folks are, about their friendship/relationship to my parents,. Mom and dad are both deceased now.
Dad was a Civilian Employee for the Navy Dept(I was told)
working at the Pentagon. He was a Civlil Engineer. We were living in Arlington VA, but came from W Quincy MA.. I was the oldest of their two children(about 4) and my brother Peter was 8months .
I said all this to perhaps jog some memories. Sorry if I have rambled.
Thank you
Barbara

I just came across this photo, and names this past Friday, so I haven't had time to sift through or research any further than the post I have made. on Rootsweb and genealogy.com.

I also have Lynch in my family. My cousin is a Lynch, and I have e-mailed her to see if she recalls the name Mildred anywhere on her dads side. I don't hold much hope for this though since I believe her Lynch family remained in Essex County Ma. She grew up in Salem Ma. and is still there.
Her parents are deceased, but her dad had been born in Newburyport Ma.

If you learn more please let me know, and I will do likewise.
If you stumble across other names I mentioned(Mr & Mrs Frank Wilson, Evelyn & Gerry Reese, will you please let me know? Thank you.

Barbara

As I think I mentioned. I don't know anything about Bob Brickman yet, but hopefully with the posted messages here and on genealgoy.com I will someday soon know a bit more.

As for the Lynch family. To my knowledge they never left MA after emigrating from Ireland. Of course, when/if I ever get a response from my cousin(e-mail I sent) maybe I will learn differently, but I wouln't hold out much hope for that.
The names were: Jeremiah Lynch, his wife Julia Murphy born in Ireland. Their children born in MA(Newburyport) were
Humphrey, Jeremiah, Daniel, Willian, John(who married my mothers sister) Hannah, Catherine and Julia.
Unless someone in your family(Lynch ) were in Ma(cousins etc) I don't see a connection on this line .
Thank you though. and if I learn more about the Brickmans' I will post it here. Thanks again Barbara

I have looked for the other names, but remain a blank. What else can you tell me about Bob Brickman? Also on the other note I looked back on Arthur Lynch. With him I have found more information. His parents are John and Gertude. His father was born in Michigan, as for his mother was born in Wisconsin. His grandfather was born in New York. He has two siblings that I know so far. They are Francis (male) born in Minnesota and Margaret was born in Wisconsin.

I can go back on the census with the Lynch family to the 1910 in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Trying to go further but no success so far.

Brickman is my fater side of the family, but we do not know of Bob Brickman. Though the surname Lynch does ring a bell also. Looking through my records I have a Arthur John Lynch in my records. He was born in Minnesota on 26 Dec 1918 and passed away in Ohio on Dec 1983. He was mrried to Marian Chaney. If this rings a bell for you, please e mail me. Thank you.

Well, another note do you know anything more about the Brickmans? From my side they came from Chicago, Illinois and settled in Baldwin County, Alabama. I do not know if they lived there long.

Frank Brickman with his wife Caroline Freda (Boege) and their son Frank Robert Brickman. These are the relativies that I only know to be in Alabama. My father says there should be some in Goergia, but I have not found anything yet on that.

There was a prison (or jail house) down in Goergia or Alabama that was built. When they brought it down they noticed that someone had imprinted the name Brickman on the some of the bricks.

Well some where in the lines we are related, but we do not see it yet. If you do have any questions about the Brickmans that I know. I will be more then glade to answer them for you.

I am looking for information on Louis Brickman who was 43 in 1912. His sons were Morris (10) and Robert (9) at the time. They were bringing back from Germany Fred Cohen and Fani (Brickman) Cohen. Fani was a sister of Louis or another relationship. Louis’ father’s first initial was listed on the manifest as “D” and Cohen’s father is listed as “S”. Cohen was recently naturalized as a British Citizen in 1911 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
