Looking for information about the parents of William Bridle, born 1797, Crewkerne, Somerset. I believe them to be a John (possibly born around 1750)and Mary Bridle. He had a younger brother, Robert.

Both were transported to Australia as convicts, William on the "Larkin" in 1817. He married Martha Miles in 1823 in Campbelltown, NSW Australia. He fathered 11 children. Died in Tumut "Fitzroy Cottage" in 1873.

Hi Philip,

Thanks for your quick response.

Henry Froome and Martha Good married St. Anne, Soho, London - 1830. I am still researching for when and where they were born.

Benjamin Bridal Froome born 05/02/1844 at Phillips Yard, Knightsbridge. Birth registered St. George Hanover Square, Belgrave, Middlesex. Father Henry Percy Froome. Mother Martha Froome (formerly Good).

His marriage to Mary Monteath took place on 28/12/1866 at St George Hanover Square, Middlesex.

His second marriage to Annie Shelvey took place on 16/11/1882 at St. George Hanover Square, Middlesex.

Benjamin died on 25/01/1914 at 54 Grosvenor Street, Mayfair at the age of 69 years, just short of his 70th birthday. His death was registered by E. Marsh (nephew) of 20 Rutland Street, Hampstead Road, (he is not in my tree at the moment). His death is registered as Benjamin Bridle Froome and his name on Frances' birth certificate is also Benjamin Bridle Froome.

Benjamin and Mary's daughters were Katherine Monteath Froome and Frances Helen Froome. Frances was born 07/10/1873 Brompton, Middlesex and she married Herbert Henry Lewis on 23/09/1902 at (not very clear) but I think it says St. Saviours Church Hammersmith. Their son Herbert Francis Froome Lewis married Irene Kerry. Frances died on 12/04/1918 at Heath Lodge, Bedfont, Middlesex. The Froome Lewis name was passed on to my mother and her brothers.

This is all I have in the way of dates/places. Have you had any luck in solving the Bridal/Bridle name?

Regards. Penny.

I have just come across your message, regarding the names of Bridal and Froome.

I have a 2 x g.grandparent whose name is Benjamin Bridal Froome. His birth certificate reads born to Henry Froome and Martha Good. So Bridal does not come from his parents names.

I note that you are researching in the Bridport area, as far as I am aware, having got back to the early 1800's, that my Froome family come from the London area, although at the moment I do not know where Henry and Martha were born.

I have Henry Froome and Martha Good.
Their son Benjamin married Mary Monteath.
Their daughter Frances married Herbert Lewis.
Their son Herbert married Irene Kerry.

Do these name connect with your family tree?

I too am puzzled, have you managed to find out anything about this unusual name?

Penny.
I have been researching my paternal grandmother's family and am curently looking at the FROOM family from Bridport, Dorset, UK.

The Bridport Presbyterian Church Registers, covering the period mid 1700's to mid 1800's shows a number of baptism entries between 1760 and 1795 where the names of the parents was given as "BRIDLE alias FROOME" or "FROME".

I don't know whether this means that the father's name was BRIDLE, and later changed this to FRO(O)ME or whether one of these names was the mother's maiden name.

Can anyone throw a light on this?

Philip

BRIDLE-SHEPARD - CHESELBORNE, SYDLING, SHERBORNE
I wonder if anyone could give me any help or advice.

My g.grandfather was Joseph Bridle, married to Deborah Ann Shepard.

According to my research, Joseph was born 1842 Dorset.

I have found a Joseph Bridle who was born in Cheselborne in 1840, who had
a brother Henry and a brother James, and lived in a workhouse with their
unmarried mother Elizabeth, in Cerne Abbas.

I assumed this to be my Joseph,
and have been trying to follow this line, however, I have found the marriage
of Joseph and Deborah Ann and it does work out that he was born in 1842/3

Could
anyone check any 1851 census or the BVRI index for a Joseph Bridle born
around this time, either in Cheselborne, Sherborne or near vicinity.

I
have also purchased a removal order for an Elizabeth Bridle from Sydling
st.Nicholas to her settlement of Cheselborne in 1817 She gave birth to
an Elizabeth Bridle in 1818 in Cheselborne, and my Great Aunt believes
this to be her g. grandmother

The reason I now think I need to find another
Joseph Bridle is because the Removal Order for Elizabeth Bridle was from
Sydling St.Nicholas to Cheselborne. Looking on a map the Elizabeth I have
been following, with the three children, was in a Workhouse in Cerne Abbas
which is only about 2 miles from Sydling. My Elizabeth was sent to Cheselborne??

Would
it be likely that Elizabeth could have been 'Removed' from where she was
living to only a mile or so away? Or have I been barking up the wrong tree?

It
would be great if anyone could help me with this. In the past I did have
responses saying there was 'another Joseph' that was 11 years old and unfortunately
I didnt follow this up as I was sure that the Joseph born 1840 was mine......oops!

Please also note our new email address ray.truckle@btinternet.com
Regards, Marlyn

The half-brother of my great-great grandmother was John BRIDLE. His parents were Joseph BRIDLE and Sarah MAY who were married 12 April 1796 in Stoke Damerel, Devon, England. Sarah later married a PHILLIPS and Robert BOWSFIELD. She died about 4 September 1819 in Lewiston, Niagara County, NY. My great great grandmother was Eliza PHILLIPS.

John BRIDLE was christened 1 May 1798, in the same church as where Joseph and Sarah were married. He was naturalized in Trumbull County, Ohio, in 1819, and was still living there at the time of the 1870 census. He married Ann _____ and their children were named Joseph, Sarah who married Thomas B. TAIT on 29 April 1847, Robert and John P. BRIDLE.

I am very much interested in more information about John BRIDLE.

Message for David Bridle -
I have just read your message re William Bridle- you have probably got the information by now as your messages was posted nearly four years ago, but-
There is a baptism of a William Bridle at Sydling 9 Feb 1819, son of Thomas & Sarah. I can find two other children baptised to this couple George in 1817 and Mary in 1820.

I am researching the Bridle family there, in particular Leah baptised 1777 to William & Mary
Cheryl

Briddell Family in Indiana

Hi,

Ran across your posting while I was searching for my Briddell Family. It may be only a coincidence, but I have a note of a marriage between (according to the record) William Grove and Andesiah Briddle 12 Mar 1835, Marion Co., IN

I have found records of my Briddells with multiple spellings: Briddell, Bridell, Bredell, Breddell, Briddle, Bridle, Breadwell, Branwell, Birdell, Brandell, Brodwell, Breadwell, and Bredwell. Sometimes it's hard to say if there's a relation or just a misspelling :-)
