Well, I found that William Beecham died in Kansas City, MO, as well as his new wife, Mary J. McClanahan. I found her death certificate and it says she is buried in Linneus, so I assume he's buried there as well. She died in 1915. In the 1880 census, they are in Linn Co., and there are 2 children with them that have to be those of Elizabeth. A 25 year old son, (born 1855 she died 1862) and a Mary E. age 18, so born 1862. Did Elizabeth die in childbirth or because of it?

I have checked out a book from the library on old cemeteries in Linneus, Linn Co., MO and I have some Brinkley info...
This is the Old Linneus Cemetery, now defunct
Children of W. B. and E. J. Brinkley:
McClanahan died Nov 10, 1863, aged 1 yr. 2 mo 29 da
Walter S. died Aug 26, 1867 aged 13 yr 1 mo 7 da
and inf dau Nannie died 1870
John H. died Sept 16, 1867, aged 22 yr. 10 mo 18 da
Elizabeth Jane, wife of W. B. died Oct 14 1862 aged 38 yr 4 mo 6 da

This means that Infant daughter Nannie can't be E.J.'s, unless they consider an infant to be 8 years old. W. B. has remarried or Nannie isn't his.

According to the 1880 census, his wife's name is Mary J.

He isn't listed in this cemetery, but might be elsewhere in this book. There is no index. If I find him, I'll send another message.
Joanne

Susie, The Brinkley's that come down from John Brinkley of Delaware are my specialty! I have chased that group clear across America! Every now and again people like you come along that need a little extra help cause you think you're part of the line. So, I try to help as I know how difficult it can be. And, if you're part of this family line I want to make sure to add the information. As it turns out you now know you need to chase the Binkley's. Do join their message page for further clues, and do contact those potential cousins. They might hold a bunch of information you might want!

I live in Oregon, and I chase Brinkley's and several other lines of my family when time permits.

You are such a great help to me and I appreciate it SO MUCH!!!! I do remember them livingon Wilshire Blvd. It seemed odd that Josephine kept popping up as his wife as I always thought Rachel was his only wife - or at least I only knew her -. I don't have any contacts out there as both myparents are dead and I was an only child. I have step brother and sister but they wouldn't know them and probably wouldn't care. We were never close. They live up north anyway and alot older than I am. Your career is very interesting. I wish I would have done things like that. I did see that there was a John Toute Binkley but he recently died. I couldn't find any info on him. What relation are you in any or all of this or is this just an interest for you? Either way, I do thank you. Do you live in the east? We live in Va.

Susie

Susie, I have been doing this a long time. My specialty is Forensic Genealogy. I spend all day, every day, sifting clues to families to find their trails. I learned how by doing my own family, a most secretive bunch! Now on to your Binkley's. I see that Charles Frederick Binkley was on the California Voter's registration in 1890, San Francisco. The year of birth is close enough to believe he's your guy. There are two databases at Ancestry.com with that name. Both are potential cousin matches for your to connect with and share information.

As to newspapers, that one can be hard because Los Angeles County is so massive. We try to narrow down where they were known to live which is why I checked to see if the voter's registry might be of help in this. You can see Charles Binkley and the listing below his name is Rachel Binkley, 1940 voter registration, living at 2619 Wilshire Blvd. You might call a friendly librarian in LA county to see if they can help you narrow down a community, then they can also suggest a newspaper. In 1948 they lived at 3191 W. 7th St.
That should be enough to get you going! If not, let me know.

Charles Frederick BINKLEY was born 07/16/1869, in Indiana and died in Los Angeles County on 11/27/1951. From this fact, find his obituary. Don't try to add more pieces to this puzzle till you can fully investigate the death. Get his obituary and get Rachel's obituary. Then you'll have more information to begin further research.

Susie, Now I see her. She married a BINKLEY not a Brinkley. If you have Ancestry, here is the link to "Rachel Goss Binkley" in Los Angeles County, CA, 1930 census: http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=....
And because she's listed on the CA Death Index as a BINKLEY, I'm betting that was the surname you need to chase!

Susie, In checking the California Death index here: http://vitals.rootsweb.ancestry.com/ca/death/search.cgi, you'll note she didn't die with the name Rachel Brinkley. Ideally what you would do is find the exact date/place of death, then find the obituary to move the family forward in time (noting where siblings and other relatives are living from the obit) and noting who preceded the person. Maybe you need to zero in on Rachel. Do you know her parents? or are you just trying to find a connection to a Brinkley?

My great aunt, Rachael, married a Charles Frederick Brinkly and was from Indiana. She was born around 1860's or around that time, so he was too. I haven't gotten any inf about him as I hit a brick wall. I don't remember him but she died around 1955 in California. She was born in Illinois so I don't know where they were married but it probably was around the 1890's. Don't know if that helps, but I'm looking for relatives too.

Susie

Susie, What document might you be looking at that is giving you the information you cited in your last posting? I've searched various databases and the census, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920 at Ancestry, and found nothing. I've searched the California death index and there are 9 Charles Brinkley's, none of whom were born in Indiana. Then, just to make sure I didn't miss anything, I searched FamilySearch.org, and found nothing there as well. Perhaps you need to start over (I understand that could be disheartening) start with yourself and then back up each generation in each census starting with 1930, and document the family group back in time. I'd be glad to help you get started if you'd like. I think you've gotten some lines crossed up and we need to come forward in time and evaluate every clue before trying to get back further in time.

Charles Frederick Brinkley was born on July 16, 1869 in Terre Haute, Indiana. His wife, Rachael was born in Illinois. Seems there was a son, John Brinkley, born on Nov. 20, 1897 in Terre Haute, Indiana. They eventually ended up in California where I'm from. Still searching more info. I never knew about a son until I saw they had traveled abroad.

Susie

Susie, as far as I can tell your Charles Frederick Brinkley wasn't of the Delaware line of Brinkley's. I don't locate this family in Indiana on the 1900 census nor the 1910. Where were they living?

I had a great aunt (Rachel) who married a Charles Frederick Brinkley.Charles was from Indiana. I noticed that there was a child, John, who was born on Nov. 20, 1897 in Indiana but can't find any more info about that. Didn't know if you are related to him. My great aunt Rachel's maiden name was Goss and had two other sisters, Jane and Julia. If that helps, let me know. I'm also trying to find other relatives as I was an only child.

Susie

I was so excited to see that you are researching the Brinkley family. My dad was James Ernest Brinkley,Jr., born in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 1917. I cannot find any history on his family what-so-ever. I believed his father to be James Ernest Brinkley senior also from Tennessee. He was married to Naomi Ruth Buchanan. He died when my dad was only about 4 years old, but I cannot find a record of anything having to do with him or his marriage to my grandmother. If you have any information, I would greatly appreciate your sharing it with me. Many thanks, Cherilynn Brinkley Eggleston

For those who are newer to genealogy, you can find my genealogy at the Worldconnect through Rootsweb's homepage.
Thanks!

Hi Skip, don't know if I can help you any but I too am trying to trace the Brinkley family lineage. I do not know much about my family other than being the daughter of my father Richard Thomas Brinkley who was married to Debbie Webb/Brinkley, also have a sibling Christopher Thomas Brinkley. Don't really know my grandfather or grandmother at all. I do believe my grandfather's name is John Brinkley. All came from Cape Girardeau, Mo. Well I hope some of this helps you if anything perhaps it may help me find anyone out there I'm related to. Thanks

Start with YOURSELF. Your own knowledge and word of mouth will get you back a couple of generations. After that, you will need to get into the historical records at the place of residence of your ancestors and progress back in time, generation by generation. It's just that simple! LOL!
Some sage advice, though, from someone who has been doing this for decades.......don't take anyone's word as proof if there is a means to verify data on your own. I have wasted countless hours chasing unrelated "relatives" based on faulty research of others in the past!

RE: Richard Brinkley and family. I am a descendent of Richard's brother, Stephen Sr. Their mother was Francis who died ca 1829 in Davidson Co, NC. I am searching for her husband, as it seems everyone else is! Stephen, Sr stated in a deposition in Davidson Co Pleas and Quarter Sessions, 16 May, 1839, that he was born in Granville Co, NC. He stated that he recollected the marriage of Philip White in 1782 in Granville Co, NC. White's widow was applying for a Rev War pension. So there must have been quite an age difference between Richard and Stephen, Sr?
Martha
