Janie, I have more Info. They were both born in Shelby County, IN. Several sons moved to Charleston, I don't know why. Our great Great Grandfather, Oscar Jardin Brison moved to Charleston in his old age, I think with his youngest son, Waldo. Descendents of Claude and Beulah have not spoken to the rest since Grandpa married Grandma. They didn't approve of her being a Spiritualist, doing seances, reading palms. The rest were Southern Baptist. I didn't even know I had relatives there in town until one of them died. Both Grandma and Grandpa were buried in Shelby County, In. Weird thing in Grandma's obituary it says she came from Dayton OH. Dad said she was from Raleigh County, WV. It makes more sense that she was born in Raleigh County because that's where the Gypsies were. All over WV in the mountains. Grandma and Grandpa were born in the same year, 1895. That's all I've found out so far.

I may be related to this branch. My great grandfather, Oscar Jardin Brison, was from Shelby County, In. I don't know his wife's name. But his sons, Jordan, Claude and Waldo all eventually moved to Charleston, WV. Oscar followed. My grandfather was Claude. Claude Matthew Brison. He married Beulah Seffins, maiden name Campbell. My father, Walter Joseph Brison was born in Huntington, WV and may have been adopted.

We are somehow connected. My family was in Butler early on and went into IN. Lucinda is a family name we brought to the Butler area from PA. I am getting my IN info in the mail soon, so I don't know the Counties we lived in yet. The other two families we were closley related to used the name often. So you have some connection to the Hoden's, Elliott's or Little families. they went with us into IN from Butler. I do not know how it fits yet Steven! the Butler CO Historical society is great! my email is fleetwood3@netzero.com

whatever happened to Cassander Brison?

Still trying to obtain information on Jackson Brison, his wife Mary, and their daughter Cassander. They are listed in the 1850 census of Humphreys County, TN. Jackson was 23, Mary was 20 and Cassander was 2. They had another daughter, Nancy Jane, born in 1862, and she is my great grandmother. I know Jackson died around 1865 and Mary and Nancy (Nannie) moved to Louisville, KY, but I don't know what happened to Cassander. Jackson had a brother, Pinkney and he and his family are also in the 1850 census of Humphreys Co. TN. They, too, moved to KY but they were in Liberty, Calloway Co., KY. Please help if you have any knowledge of this family and would be willing to share with me.
Jackson Brison (Bryson?) and his brother Pinkney

Trying to find any information available on Jackson Brison/Bryson. He had a brother, Pinkney, and they both appear on the 1850 census for Waverly, Humphreys Co., TN. Jackson's wife was named Mary and they had a daughter Cassandra. Pinkney was married to Sarah and they had a son, Morgan. The Brison brothers were born in KY and their wives were born in TN as were the children. Their ages according the the 1850 census: Jackson (23), Mary (20), Cassandra (2), Pinkney (21), Sarah (22) and Morgan (1). I'm not sure of the spelling..the census shows it as Brison, but my great grandmother was Nancy Jane Bryson. I'm trying to find the connection between Nancy Jane and Jackson. I believe he may be her father who died when she was 3 yrs. old. Her mother remarried and she was raised by her stepfather who was a frenchman. I appreciate any help in solving this family puzzle.

All the census records I've found on Isabella say NC, but the entry in a family Bible says Isabella born in SC. That could be wrong. Let me know what you have on the family. Glad to hear from you.
I know I am shooting fish in a rain barrel; however I must ask the question. I have been looking for the parents and siblings of Brison (Bryson) Miller, b. 1787 in Va. Married Mary Marshall Burrell in 1813 in Ohio. He died in Decatur Co. Iowa.

I was wondering if any of the Brison researchers may have found a female Brison that may have married a Miller.

As we all know, they used family names many times for given names of children.

If anyone can help, it will certainly be appreciated.

Ken

Brison's of Ireland?

My Michael Wallace (b) 1804 Nova Scotia married Mary Brison in 1829. Mary Died in 1850. Her parents were John Brison (b) Nova Scotia (1831 - 1892) and Francis Dill. I need
more information on Mary/John Brison. When did the Brisons came to America before 1840 from Ireland? Would you know if the Dills are from Ireland? Thankyou.

Hey, good to hear from you...I don't remember much about Patrick's family, but I had met Donna (who paints portraits) and Joyce who lived out on some huge farm...(somewhere - I was only 5). I saw Joyce over spring break and she gave me a copy of Name History on the Brison paper, but I tend to think it may be inacurate. The Brisons spelled their name with a "Y" and that clan has a different coat of arms than the one given to me by Joyce. It's one of those commercial documents, you pay and they give you some historical background which you have no hope of ever determining its authenticity....Soooo, I'm searching... The B & W photo Joyce gave me has a set of grandparents and a great grandfather named Bryson. There are kids in the photo; Homer, Edna, Elizabeth and George, and an older young lady named Annie...The name "grandma Ollie" is scribbled over the older lady's head...I just can't find a starting point to work with...All the records I've viewed so far, show a sudden change (or perhaps separation in clans) from Bryson to Brison around the 1850s. If you're interested in the Brison/Bryson coat of arms let me know and I'll send you the 2 banners I have with the explanations for each one. By the way, where do you live? I've lived in Greece all my life, as you probably already know, but after marrying my husband who's in the USN, we lived in CA for 6 yrs, and now in VA since last Sept. I thought it was touching but also strange that Joyce wanted me to have this piece of paper...Maybe she thought I was worthy enough to keep the Brison legend? hahahahaha (sorry, I had to do that!)
Take care, cuz and write soon!
Chrysoula Ann Brison - Holtzhauer

Homer and Ethel

Hi, Kris. I just found this one on the board after my earlier reply. Obviously, Homer and Ethel were our grandparents. Ethel actually died in the late summer of 1980. I don't know for sure but I think she had some kind of cancer and possibly diabetes. Homer was not so long-lived. He committed suicide in the middle 1960's. I don't know all the details nor do I remember him that well but I do remember that he had an artificial hand, although i can't say for sure which one. I don't know much at all about grandma as I've never been close to my dad or his family, with the exception of Joyce and even that faded after I got older. But it didn't fade completely. Do you know her? She's good people. Hope to hear from you.
DonnieB

Kris, he and my dad are brothers. I do not know a whole lot about the previous spelling of Bryson, other than that there was a girl named Susie Bryson that went to school with my Mom. I have been told that she was distant relation to us. Have you been acquainted with any of the rest of the family? I knew Pat had children while he was stationed in Greece, but didn't know any particulars. Are you the oldest, middle or baby? How many siblings? I'd love to hear from you again.
DonnieB

Brisons in Indiana

Unfortunately I don't know the Brisons cause I was raised in Europe. I was recently given some info at a Brison reunion, but some of the clues are confusing. Apparently, my father's great grandfather spelled his name with a "Y" and eventually the children later changed to current spelling. All I have are names and fragments that don't really make sense to me...For instance my grandfather's name was Homer Levi who married Ethel Ann Deere. His grandma's name was Ollie and his siblings/cousins(?) were Edna, Elizabeth and George...Homer had 11 children with Ethel and some from another marriage. The Brison name has spread to many places, but does any one really know which clan in Ireland they came from. The Historical Research Center has given me the gaelic names O'Breslin and O'Breaslain but I don't know if that applies to me. There are other Brisons and Brissons from France, but everyone here has names like Joseph, Dave, Martha, and Patrick which verifies the Irish roots. Does this sound like anything you've heard before?
thanks, Krys Holt (Brison)

My grandfather's name was Homer Levi Brison who was married to Ethel Ann Deere in Indiana. Homer's father and grandfather spelled their surname BRYSON. Homer's mother's name was Ollie. There are 4 other children (siblings or cousins) to Homer in an old B&W photo I have...their names are Edna, Elizabeth and George. Also a younger woman in 20's by the name Annie whom my father mentioned alot as "auntie Annie"...
Homer and Ethel had children from previous marriages, but together they had 11 children in the 30s & 40s. I think Ethel passed in the 70s. I don't have ANY info on Homer's birth/death.

Homer Brison

My grand father's name was Homer and he was married to Ethel Deere(maiden). He died in the early '60's and she passed in about the fall of 1980 as I recall. Pat was on of the boys and was in the US armed service (I don't know what branch) but he was stationed and in Greece and lived there after his tour was completed. Married a Grecian lady and had some children. Paul is an older brother of Pat's and is my dad. Violet, Dave, Homer, Ailene, Joyce and Donna Sue are some more of the children. I hope this is of some help. As far as I know, the family lived in Bull Creek around the Charlestown, Indiana area down on the Ohio River.
