Has anyone donated their DNA yet for research on Broadwaters? The only qualified male cousin I had provided DNA but we think it likely his father may not have been a Broadwater. Now I am likely back to square one. I have a few male cousins but none qualify as with DNA that was passed from father to son.

Broadwaters!!!

I think there are quite a few of us on here who have been searching for our "brick wall" ancestors for some time now and it seems most of the ancestors are in the 1790-1850 date range. My elusive ancestor, Charles Broadwater, born 1827-1830, was in the federal census for Edgefield, South Carolina in 1850(later moved to Russell County, Alabama).
He lived with a D. J. Gilchrist during this census but I cannot pinpoint who his father was in the 1840 census of Edgefield. It could be either one of two men who listed children his age at that time, but I do not have proof he was even born there, much less in South Carolina. Is anyone else searching during this time and in this area? Do I appear frustrated? Anyone have suggestions or help? Thanks

Nancy Broadwater Walsh

Hi Ann...we spoke a few years back about our Broadwater ties. Yes, I have this information, but still cannot find anything on Charles while living in Edgefield County, per 1850 census, or further back. There were quite a few Broadwaters' living in Edgefield during the 1840 census, but since names weren't listed then, I cannot determine who his father or any family members would be. Have you done more research?

Nancy Broadwater Walsh
Hi Ann....haven't heard from you in awhile. I haven't found much at all over the past couple of years on Broadwater. Charles did lose a leg at Chicamauga, but I still cannot find his parents. There are a few Broadwaters' living in Edgefield during the 1840 census, but I can't match him up to anyone. Wondering if he came from another state. He batchelored with D. J. Gilchrist when both were 25 years of age in Edgefield and I've emailed Gilchrist families asking if they had information, but no responses.

Nothing new; still trying to find my missing link, Charles M. Broadwater. He appears on the 1860 Edgefield census, then moved to Alabama. Can't connect him to any Broadwaters' in 1840 census. Your grandfather William Washington Broadwater?
From what I understand of verbal family history, my great grandmother was Elizabeth Broadwater I am unsure if she married into the Morris side or the Addington side - I do not know her husband's or children's names. This is from South Carolina to the best of my knowlege.
The children include my mother. They lived in Spartanburg, SC. I do know that the Addington family is originally from England, and the Broadwater were American Indian.
