Hello Christopher,
I am sorry to tell you that this is not a connection. My grt grandfather Henry/Harry Bromfield came to the United States with his parents John and Louisa Mifflin, as well as his wife Clara Hockenberry and their two sons George and Fredrick. They came over on the Alaska in 1890 and settled in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. They later had four more children, Mabel, Thomas (who was my granfather, Nellie and Harry. I have alot of records...including headstones to back up my information. I do however have some information on an other who I am quite interested in because I found a picture of him in my collection. His name is Harry Bromfield but he is not my great grandfather nor my great Uncle. I am quite busy at the moment, however I will share it with you at a later date if you would like. As this week will be very busy for me, it may slip my mind. So if you do not hear from me in about a week you can email me @ maggimae1@aol.com or message me on Ancestory.com, just click on my name above. Cheers! Have a great week!

Hi John,

Frederick James Bromfield is actually son # 2 of Henry aka Harry Bromfield who settled in the US in 1890. He had a son with Helen Kern; Frederick James b.1913. I do not know what happened to the marriage, I have no record of the divorce. But he also married a woman from Wisconsin name Olga E. Johnson around 1930. He lived out his years in Philadelphia (Germantown) with Olga and raised Olga's nephew Jimmy as their own child. If you would like anymore information or pictures feel free to message me...if you are an ancestery.com my page is private but I have no problem sharing.
Shari sweetie... you know where to find me :)

Hello Mike

I realise this link is quite old but Frank my husband (who may be your mother's brother ?) has given me the task of researching the BROMFIELD side of the family. I see that you have traced a line back to the 1790 - 1800's. On the Henry Pope/Ellen Mary Cooper side I have only been able to go back to Mary Ann Amelia Simpson b1854 and John Millington Cooper b1854.

Have you any information about their parents or death years ?

Kind Regards

Jean

Bromfields in Liverpool: 1700-1800

I am looking for the family of one Ann Sophia Bromfield, born to Thomas Bromfield (according to her obituary) in Liverpool, England in 1793. The salient bit of hier obituary reads:

"Born in the year 1793, her father, a once wealthy and honoured West India merchant, was the first Liverpool commoner that drove a private carriage, at his fine residence, situated at tile top of Duke Street. My grandfather, Mr. Thos. Bromfield, raised from his own means, in 1799, a regiment of volunteers to aid in guarding the town against the expected invasion of Napoleon Buonaparte. As a little child, my mother was taught to watch and report the Signals which heralded the approach of the West India fleet, when Birkenhead could boast of but one building, and that a signal station and light-house.

Where Lime Street Station now stands, was my grandfather’s marble yard, and wonderful tales of old Liverpool and its magical changes have been narrated to me many and many a time...."

I have verified that one Bromfield, first name unknown, did own a marble yard at the location, and did sell the property to the Manchester & Liverpool Raliway Co. (sparking a lawsuit), but I cannot find any information on the Thomas Bromfield Ann Sophia's obituary writer claims as Ann's father.

The stakes are relatively high here. Ann Sophia Bromfield married Ebenezer Floyd (in December 1819), and their second child, Emma, became a rather famous Spiritualist propagandist, Emma Hardinge Britten (1823-1899).

Any help, pointers, suggestions greatly appreciated.
I have an Anne Bromfield in my tree who was born 1 Jun 1679 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. She died 1 Jun 1755 in the same place. She was the daughter of John Bromfield, born 1642 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He died there in Jan 1679. He married Olive Hardy (1646-1703) also of Isle of Wight. After he died, Olive married John Pitts (1631-1702). Anne had a sister Mary who was born 1 Jun 1678, died 1752 who married Arthur Smith (1677-1750).I have five children listed for them. I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Brandy

Henry Popes father was Henry George Edward(Edwin)his father was Charles Gideon, now the only Charles Gideon i can find is a Broomfield b.22/07/1813 and his father is listed as Charles Broomfield and mother Alice. Again the only Charles Broomfield I can find married a Alice Bathie also in 1813 this would place them born around 1790.
Hi

Unfortunately not much more, I would be happy to fill in any gaps you have though. Henry Pope had six children, Harry,Constance,Frank,Elizabeth,Sidney,Winifred which one is your friend decended from? I can take the majority of the Henry Pope/Ellen Mary Cooper side back to the 1790 - 1800's if that helps and of course take the Frank Horace/Lily Edith Wright up to present day

Hello
I've been researching my friend's family tree for her this week (found too many dead ends on my own!!!).
She is related to you, it would seem, as she is a descendant of Henry Pope Bromfield. I knew the details you gave in your message - I've seen the census record showing Charles Bromfield the brushmaker, but can't get back any further at present. Do you have any more details?
Many thanks,
Luisa

I am researching a Fred(e)rick James Bromfield. I have his birth place as Panath, England, born 20 March 1889.

He married a Helen Kern on 8 November 1911 Philadelphia City Hall, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

He died 12 February 1981 Maple Shade, Burlington County, New Jersey.

That is all I know about Fred. Does this sound like your Fred? Any additional information on Fred and his family would be appreciated.

I was wondering if any one can help with my search, I am trying to tracing my g.g. grandparents John Broomfield & Elizth Paterson. I can find them on the 1891english cenus, and I know that Elizth was born in Scotland about 1850. John was born in Birmingham about 1837. The family I know about are 2 sons (George born in Yorkshire & Frank born in Lancashire) and 5 daughters (Elizth & Caroline both born in Yorkshire,Clara born in Kent,Flora & Rosa both born in Lancashire). Not sure if they had any other children. Clara my g.grandmother went on to marry a Thomas Golpin. Unfortunately this is the only time I can find John & Elizth, they do not appear on any other English Census. I would like to find out when they married and there parents if possible.
Hope someone can help
Many Thanks
Sue

Forgot to mention before that Thomas Bromfield and his spouse Elizabeth Louisa Brown and their children, Thomas, Lizzie, James, Albert and Edwin are in my family tree.

Thomas' father was a George Bromfield and not Frederick. I believe that Frederick was George's younger brother, but cannot confirm that yet. Both George and Frederick's father was a Charles Bromfield, another brushmaker.

Have you actually got the marriage certificate for Frederick Bromfield and Mary Ann, the parents of the children you mention?

I have and on every census he says he was born in Southwark. So I wondered why you thought he was born in Yorkshire? Perhaps you have the wrong family group?

I think we certainly have a link, since the names Turley, Pitkin and Doughty are in my tree too! My George Bromfield married Rebecca Pitkin and after she died he remarried Jane Hill and had extensive family.

George's father was another brushmaker named Charles Bromfield who was deceased before 1864 and possibly even before 1841. If Alice was the name of his widow then I also believe that George had a brother Frederick, sisters Caroline and Mary and there were gaps in the years between for others too!

I think that Richard may have been one of the children of James Broomfield and Margaret Neill/Neil from Greenlaw, Berwickshire, Scotland - they were Agnes (1) 1774, Robert 1776, Agnes (2) 1779, Adam 1781, Margaret 1783, James 1786, Richard 1790 and Alison 1791. Richard Broomfield and his son John were "bakers". Catharine's father John was a "smith"
