You ask about Doris and Justin Brooke. They were my grandparents and I inherited all her papers when she died along with a ton of history and photographs going back to her great grandfather who went to India as a missionary (Travancore) in 1814. Naturally the earliest photo was first in the 1850's.(attached)
Justin and Doris were married 8th Oct. 1917 at Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire, UK. From the Hall, the home of Edward and Eva Greene, Parents of the author Graham Greene. FYI she was born 6 July 1894 in Pincher Creek, Alberta NWT, Canada.
For information on the rest of your names I can pass you on to my cousin who has a very complete database on all threads of Arthur Brooke's decendants, right down to those in Istanbul who speak no English!
Do contact if I can be of more help.
JB
As regards the Thains, I have a picture of Margaret Thain, nee Hobbs (c. 1860) where she looks to be about 65/70.

So sorry for the delayed reply to your message. I seem to have also missed the response by your aunt a while ago. Thank you for answering my post.

May I begin by giving you a brief synopsis. My paternal grandmother was Amanda Alexina ARBOUR. She was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, but her father (and all ARBOURs before him) were born in Quebec. In fact, about 98% of all ARBOURs in North America descend from one immigrant ancestor, Michel ARBOUR, who came from France in 1665. He is responsible for over 25,000 descendants.

In honor of my grandmother, I research all ARBOURs, no matter where they are. One day, I would like to connect all of us to each other. To that end, I continuously seek out anyone of the ARBOUR surname, such as your mother. Would you be willing to share information about yourself and your siblings and perhaps about cousins, too?

Your grandfather Michel seems to have lost touch with the family. Any information you can give me on him would be wonderful.

If you care to see what I have, here is the online family tree: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

Those who were born since 1930 and have no death date are presumed living and their data is hidden due to privacy concerns.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give regarding your family.

Shannon
Mesa, Arizona

Hi everyone,

I'm desperately seeking (not Susan!) but information on Susanna Rebecca Brooke, who was born in 1744 according to my research. She married a man called John Pike in 1767 (which is referenced in a document in the National Archives), and would have lived in the Norfolk area of the United Kingdom. Betwen them they had a son, also called John Pike.

Any inforation anybody can give me very gratefully received.

Many thanks,
Ben Park

George Frederick Wilkison Brooke

This gentleman was my great great grandfather. He came from Huddersfield Yorkshire England. Not sure of when he arrived in Canada, but he married Eliza Webb in Montreal January 1861.They moved from there to Ontario Canada and lived in several small towns. He worked so the census states as a Tailor. There were four children from this marriage: Nancy Malinda Brooke, Frederick Webb Brooke (my great grandfather) Eliza Winnifred Brooke and James Wilkison Brooke. All except Frederick went to live in the States and ended up in New York- Brooklyn area Kings I believe. George F W Brooke died in Barrie Ontario Canada in April 1893. Aparently there were letters to my grandfather from the ladies in Huddersfield and he was offered a position as Physician in Sarawak which leads me to believe there are connections to the Raj and his branch of the Brooke family along with a few other notable people with the last name of Brooke. If any of this is linked to your line of the Brooke family I would appreciate hearing from you as I have run into a dead end. Thank you.

I am related to Brooks in Utah that migrated around the 186o's from England. The names I believe were Edward Brook married to an Ellen Barker and had children that came with and children that stayed in England. Son that came over with his parents when he was around 17 was named Squire Brook. They were from the Criggleston/ Thornhill area.

Hi again,
Beginning to look like a different line, but I don't really have any dates I'm afraid. I'm guessing sometime in the 1800's, maybe the 1830/40s.
That website I mentioned? It's called familysearch.org, run by some church site. That mentioned Simon Walker and his parents but nothing further. I think it's an american based site which is why I'm curious as to why Simon had been put onto it (born in 1862). I'm thinking someone from the Brookes side went over there, maybe some earlier ancestor of his (perhaps an Uncle?).
As I'm on a different computer I can't check back through some old emails from a rellie of mine who had mentioned it. Sorry there are no further dates.
Thanks again for your replies.
Regards
Susan

Good Evening Simon;
The original post regarding the White Rajah of Sarawak caught my attention that and Ann Boleyn. My family name is Brooke and the part of the family that I am looking for originated in from what we know Huddersfield. My great great grandfather was George Wilkison Frederick Brooke born approximately 1827 and left for Canada in maybe 1860 or ealier. He married my great great grandmother Eliza Webb in Montreal Quebec and they later moved to the province of Ontario and most of the family with the exception of one brother stayed in Canada. We are also connected to the Singleton family who married into the Whitby family and finally the Brooke family. I am hoping you are still reading this web thread as any help I receive is much appreciated.

Family of Alfred Albert Holmes and Florence Julia Dashwood

Greville Charles Dashwood Holmes was born in Westbury on Trym (Bristol) Gloucestershire and christened there on 31 December 1877. He had three siblings, Vivian Muskett Dashwood Holmes (5 February 1875 at Horfield Glos), Ethel E.F (probably Ethel Emily Florence) Holmes in Westbury in about 1876 and Olive M (probably Mabell) Holmes in 1879

Alfred Albert Holmes had earlier been married to Susan Jane Coles and had five children.

Greville Holmes (who I think might have been a commercial traveller of some sort) married first to Margaret Kelly and had son, John Dashwood Holmes who was successful Australian jurist.

Greville married secondly to Kathleen and had son Robert Dashwood Holmes in Edinburgh. Subsequently Robert married Valmai Elena Gunner in 1945 in Mosman (Sydney) New South Wales. Robert died in 1969 in Ryde, New South Wales

I have rather more of the Holmes family tree. I'd guess that you are about a fourth cousin to me

I'd be very interested in anything that you can add. Email if you want to exchange GEDCOM files

Graham Peters
graham.peters@gmail.com

Re: Sale & Brooke 1700s Essex Co. VA

7 Sept 2009
Cal Sale added this ancestry
---------------------------------
Some comments about Thomas Sale and Mollie Brooke-Sale.

First, Mollie did not marry Thomas Sale until after 1736 when her fathers will was written listing her as Mollie Brooke. This is how it is spelled in Robert Brooke's will. No mention of Thomas Sale. She was a minor at that point giving her a birthdate of between 1715 and 1736.

Second, the information about Mollie Brooke's death date is apparently erroneous. There is a lot of bad information on Familysearch .org. Deed records from 1788 list Thomas Sale and wife.

Third, Will Book 14, p.175, the will of Thomas Sale, he lists his wife, Molly. This is how it is spelled in the will. He lists his son Humphrey and daughters Susanna and Mary. Susanna is married to Alexander Saunders at this time, but they have no children as of the date of the will. Dated 4 December 1789. Probated, 18 June 1790. However, it should be noted that it was the January Court that issued the order for the appraisement of the Estate of Thomas Sale and therefore he died between 4 December and the January court which probably met beginning around the 10th to the 20th of January. I will have to verify this...

Lastly, I have set a birthdate for Thomas Sale of about 1716. This is based on the fact that he and his brother John were the last siblings surviving. John was born on Feb 24, 1717/1718.

More later.

Cal Sale
Re: BROOKE -- Ireland, St Helena, Bengal early C19th

I am descended from the Irish Brookes. I have just deposited letters (dated 1771 and 1779) from John Wesley to Henry Brooke (Robert's uncle), with other family papers, in the Longford Archives in Ireland. The donation is to be known as The Rainsford Collection in memory of my father. There will be an exhibition of these in the Library in October. The Longford History Society has recently erected a wall plaque to Charlotte Brooke, the C18th poetess.
Am interested in learning more about Robert Brooke who was given a sword by Wellesley and also another Henry Brooke Governor of Madras, a city in which I lived in the 1960s.

Clement Hill Brooke and Anne Carroll marriage information

I have recently returned from a trip to Maryland and Wash. DC, looking for info on the Brooke family. I have found that Clement Hill Brooke and Anne (called Nancy in family records, which was her nickname) Carroll were married on May 8, 1817, in Washington, DC, at Christ Episcopal Church, the oldest Episcopal Church in DC. I have been to the church and personally saw the register where their names were entered.

This makes me wonder if she was an Episcopalian, rather than a Catholic like many Carrolls were. Another Carroll researcher thinks, but has no proof, that her parents were James Carroll and Susanna Galwith, who were married in St. John's Episcopal Church, Prince Georges, Md.

Has anyone gathered any more information? I am tracking as many of the descendants of Clement Hill Brooke and Anne Carroll Brooke as possible, hoping to find someone who has information on her birth, parents, and siblings.

I would be happy to share what I have with anyone.
grannieann2@comcast.net

Abner Brooke, B. 1760

Trying to find any info on Abner Brooke. His daughter Eliza Ann Brooke married Isaac Walker of Gap PA. Harris in Biographical History of Lancaster County, PA says that Abner married Mercy Kinsey. It also says that her parents were Mahlon Kinsey and Ann Eastburn. Other sources say that Mercy's parents were Thomas Kinsey and Margaret Smith. There was a Mary Eastburn who married Jonathan Brooke. They had 3 children and possibly took in another named James. Abner named his oldest son James. Any info appreciated.
