BROS family from Puerto Rico, Spain, France and (?) elsewhere

My father was Miguel Angel BROS, born in Santurce, Puerto Rico (just outside of San Juan) in 1944 and died in 1994. His last residence was in East Islip, NY in Suffolk County, Long Island. His family moved to New York City before he was 4 years old and he grew up in the Bronx. His father, my grandfather, was also named Miguel Angel BROS and was originally from Arecibo, Puerto Rico. He was born around 1916 (I forget the year), and died in 1981 in New York City and is buried in the cemetary in Arecibo. The elder Miguel Angel BROS had 4 or 5 brothers. Miguel Angel became estranged from his brothers, but I have gathered from my father that some of his paternal uncles moved to the New York City area (1 to Staten Island & 1 or 2 to the Bronx).

My father's mother was Anna Delia RAMOS, born in Ciales, Puerto Rico in 1921 as daughter of Manuel RAMOS and Brigida MENENDEZ.

My father's paternal grandfather was Agustin BROS (y Roja), also from Arecibo. Supposedly, Agustin's father emmigrated to Puerto Rico from somewhere outside of Barcelona. Reportedly, the surname of Agustin's father or grandfather was BROS y Taylor.

I am very interested in receiving information about any members of the BROS family, current or past, and am also interested in any information about the BROS surname, whether belonging to relatives or not.

Hello Christine, My family come from villages just south of Lubaczow. I have come across the surnames Broziak, Brzozow(ski) and Bross in my research in the church registers. I have a list of surnames from the area that I asked a cousin (who still lives in the area) about. My notes show he said that there is a Bross family in Szczutkow, a village 8-10 km south of Lubaczow.
The church registers for Lubaczow and many of the villages around have been microfilmed by the LDS.
Hope this helps. Janet.

Hi Christine. I think your family is too far east to be related to mine. The names of towns I have are Sandomierz, Tamkorza and Samborzec. If these mean anything to you, email me at HJCS@aol.com.

You may be surprised to hear this but between 1892 and about 1923 more than 145 people named Broz landed at the immigration facility in New York City. There are also other spelling variations (Brosz, Bross, Bros) with still more persons. If you have some idea as to when they came, you might be able to find them by matching up the village names at ellisislandrecords.org

Bros family

Hi! My husband's grandfather was a Bros. He settled on Staten Island in the early 1900s. He was Joseph Bros, son of Michael and Mary (Gierczyk). He was Polish, born in 1897 in the area of Sandomierz/Radom which would have been Prussian at the time. It is possible therefore that your ancestors are Polish not German. I don't know anything else about Joseph Bros family of origin. So, I can't say if he had sisters or brothers

Bros is an unusual name. In some ways this is good, because it should be easier to avoid false leads. On the other hand, there are many conflicting hints as to nationality. In hunting for the origins of it on the web. There are some families with this name from Luxembourg, France as well as German Poland. Please let me know if you have any luck. You can contact me via this email (hjcs@aol.com)
