I thought it might have been Jonathen Lindley that took the Brothers, Moyers, Trueblood families from NC to IN. My line comes from Joshua Brothers born in IN in 1812. I believe his father may also have been named Joshua who may have been in the wagon train to IN. Joshua sr had a brother named Wilson. Joshua Jr named one of his sons Wilson and they moved from IN to Pike County, Illinios around 1835. Wilson was in the Civil war and died while on duty. I have an original picture of Wilson in uniform holding one of his sons. I recently discovered my brother has some very old pictures of the Brothers of the 1800's. I hope one may be Joshua. Just need to get him to bring them out.
Thanks for the additional information on Uncle John and Aunt Lida. I am assuming that Lida and "Eliza" were the same person. Just speculation on my part, however the dates and timeline fit. According to an article in an archived "Bourbon News", Lida visited her father. John Brothers in the Confederate Veterans on several occasions. That is what started my search for the Brothers family.

Regards,
Robert Burton

Thank you so much for your time. Minerva's oldest son is Thomas Joseph... Joseph being Charles father's name, so would make sense that Thomas is her fathers.

John Brother's and Dorothy Shircliff are grandparents of Charles who is son of their daughter Elizabeth Rebecca Brothers, so if correct, this would make Minerva and Charles 1st cousins.

I am assuming my Dad was named after the second Israel which would make his line with Caleb and Mary Henslee. I found a Hensley from KY who looks just like me and they said the Hensley line goes back to VA and to check out Lee County VA genweb. ps Patsy Cline was a Hensley from VA for trivia buffs. email me privately with your photo since we may be cousins from the same line then....bamabird1959@yahoo.com Also look for the data on the descendants of Rev. Roy Hood. Israel Brothers lines are on it. There are two cousins, Unissa and Elnora who married the same man in the Hood family. He was a grandchild of Tunis Hood which means there bloodlines and Elvis' are the same.....with Minnie Hood as a cousin.

My ancestor is Celina Tremblay b. abt 1850 in Canada (according to all the records I have on her). I think her parents are Fred and Sarah Tremblay, but have not been able to prove this. A possible marriage record for Celina in 1870 in N. ?Adams Mass lists her parents as Fred and Sarah Tremblay.

I would love to share information with you as I have always wondered if the Sarah Brothers Tremblay who died in 1908 in Westfield, MA is her mother.

Please feel free to contact me directly at piriedd@aol.com.

Hello, I am trying to find out who Martha Brothers parents were. She was born 1844, died 1 May 1892. She lived her life in Fayette County PA and married Ahimas Knopsnider (1833-1905). I have seen Washington Brothers as her father and a Mary Zimmerman as her mother. Washington Brothers was married to a Loucinda McMasters in 1846 and I do not find Martha living with them in the census'.

I have a great grandmother Harriet Brothers who was born in Malone, NY in 1848. Her parents were Fr. Canadian and their name was Brodeur. You may want to check that spelling for your ancestors.
Looking for any information on the Brothers Family that relates to my Sarah Brothers. Per the 1900 Census for Westfield, MA, she was born Dec 1828 in Fr Canada and so were her parents. I have her death cert. but her parents' names are not listed.
Sarah and Frederick were married probably about 1849 as their first child, Celia was born in VT (possibly St. Albans or Rutledge, VT) in 1850.

All I have on Sarah is when she was born and that she was born in Fr Canada (I CAN'T FIND WHERE IN CANADA), and her children's names & years of birth, and her death (May 7, 1908 Westfield, MA). The 1900 Census for Westfield, MA had her living with her daughter also named Sarah and her husband, Joseph Cadienne. It stated that mother Sarah immigrated in 1855, but she had 3 children born in VT from 1850-1855 so that can't be correct.

Any help in this regard would be most helpful.
Lisa

My ancestor Caleb Brothers was born November 15, 1787 in Pasquotank, NC, and died September 10, 1853 in Saline CO Arkansas. His first wife was Mary Henslee whom he married on December 19, 1846 in St. Clair County, AL. His second wife was Charlottte Sally Brison. This wife was the mother of Brison Brothers born May 1816 in SC and died June 2 1901, in St. Clair Co. AL. Brison was my great-great grandfather on my father's side. Isreal Brothers was born 1814 in SC, and died March 8 1863 in AL. Isreal was my mother's great-grandfather on the McClendan side. My mother's mother was Martha Caldona McClendon. Isreal and Caleb were brothers.
Also, Caleb was in the South Carolina militia during the war of 1812. By 1820, he had settled in Greasy Cove in St. Clair Co. AL (Gallant). He was the first settler in the area.

Hi I am a great great great grandaughter of Caleb Brothers and his second wife Mary White. I have researched all the lines of Brothers that descend from this Caleb Brothers. Please don't confuse him with the Caleb Brothers that was born in Pasquotank ( spelling). They I believe were either cousins or maybe a little further removed.

I have information on his marriages and decendents of Caleb and Sally Brison, and his marriage to Mary Henslee. I do have a photo of Mary White and Mary Henslee but not of Caleb. I also have reason to think that Mary White was in the household of Caleb and Sally Brison at one time so they knew each other.

I have a Brothers Myfamily site and a Brothers family tree on ancestry that I will gladly send invitations to, if your interested contact me at paulaj@crccom.net I work full time so please be patient and I will get your invitation to you.

He was born in South Carolina and moved to Alabama where he lived until his death. Any information would be deeply appreciated. Juda Brothers Smith

I've hit the same dead end on that line. My gggranddad was Wilson who was born in 1833 and his father was Joshua who was born 1811 or so in IN I suspect his father was also named Joshua from looking at the 1820 IN census. It looks like he had several children and our Josh may have been one of the youngest. Now I just need to determine where in NC and who his father was.

Hi Alix
Great to hear from another member of our very extended family !!
We did know that Nellie had gone to Argentina but that's about it really, I think the sister my Great Grandmother kept in contact with most was Clara who lived in Rhyl, but having 16 children kept her pretty busy I should imagine.
Fanny did marry Phillip Roberts who was a lay preacher for the Methodist church and they lived in Frances Street in Chester where they had a shop they also ran the taxi service out of chester station (this was when it was horse drawn).
My grandmother was Constance Roberts and she married a George Roden and had 2 daughters Jennifer(my mum) and Helen who now lives in Canada, my mum still lives in Chester and I am one of 4 children and live in Holywell North Wales.
I have contacted my mum and she is very excited about this over the weekend we will get the photos out and try to give a potted history and a who's who. If possible I will try to scan the photos and attach them.
Any History on Nellie and your side of the family would be great. I can see I am going to need a much bigger sheet of paper to complete this family tree but it is nice to be able to trace the female line for a change.

Hello Jane!

I'm so pleased you put up your message, as I've long been hoping to get in touch with someone from Fanny's branch of the family. With 17 children, I think the tree could be about to grow!!!

Fanny's sister Nellie was my great-grandmother. She married in Oxford and emigrated to Argentina after her husband became ill. I don't know what information you already have, so I won't put too much down here, but I'm happy to share information and would be delighted to know about the Roberts branch of the family!

Look forward to hearing form you.

Alix

Great to hear from you, Mary. My GF was Alonzo Richard Brothers, born 1884. He had two brothers, John b. 1879 and Robert b. 1871. I met Bob as a child. Their parents were John Franklin B. and Jane Rebecca Brinkley B. A.R. was an amateur boxer, early on worked for the railroad. After an
injury ended his career as an engineer, he became a preacher, and achhieved some fame as the "Railroad Evangelist". He preached in over 1000 churches of all denominations as well as many tent revivals. I don't know the name Clara in our family, but would love to hear more. By the way, if Bob was your GGF, I have seen his gravesite in Portsmouth.

Chris Brothers
Santa Fe, NM

My relatives last name was indeed Brothers! The reason I specified South Norfolk, however, is because it used to be a part of Norfolk but was annexed to Chesapeake in the 30s or 40s. It makes records very confusing!

Hi, well I noticed you said your relative's last name was "Brother". Is that without the "S" on the end? My grandmother's last name was "Brothers". I don't know why she moved to South Norfolk, unless it was the reason so many move like that - to find work and since S. Norfolk is really Norfolk, I'm sure there was work there. Hope you find what you're looking for. They may have been kin to each other.

I am related to John Aaron Brother (b. 15 Dec 1885) of Pasquotank Co. He was married to my g-grandmother, and they lived in S. Norfolk, VA. It seems more than coincidental that there are so many Brothers in Coastal NC/VA... Do you happen to know why your particular ancestors moved north the VA? And is there any way they could be related to John Aaron Brothers? He's a giant enigma to me - I can't find more that his WWI draft registration!

Any help would be greatly appreciated :o)

Michaela

I am related to John Aaron Brothers (b. 15 Dec 1885) of Pasquotank Co. He was married to my g-grandmother, Beulah Riegle Brothers of S. Norfolk. It's seems more than coincidental that there are so many Brothers in Pasquotank AND Norfolk. Do you happen to know why any of your particular ancestors moved north to VA? And is there any way they could be related to John Aaron Brothers? He's a giant enigma - I can't find more than his WWI draft registration!

Any help would be greatly appreciated :o)

Michaela
