Looking for info on Brugger family from Aanguay, Switzerland

My Great Grandfather was Andreas Brugger. He came to Austin County, Texas in 1877. He came in thru Ellis Island. His Brother Samuel came about 1880. Both men list Bellville, Texas as their destination, so I would think they knew someone or had a specific reason to go there. Samuel's death certificate lists his father's name as Samuel, but neither mentioned a mother's name. Andreas, Who went by Andrew in the U.S. was born 4/28/1854 in Switz, Samuel was born 7/29/1848 also in Switz. Both were granted citizenship. Both men were farmers, both married and lived the rest of their lives in Austin County, Texas (Bellville and Milheim) Both are burried there. If anyone could give me a clue or suggest a place to start, your help or hints would be greatly appreciated.

I believe this Valentine Brugger who came to Wisconsin in 1905 may have been my great-grandfather, who left Austria at the time. His son, my grandfather, was also named Valentine Walter Brugger. I am very interested to learn more about his Austrian heritage. If this sounds like a link at all, please contact me.

Well! Cindy, for what it's worth, I'm back up here on the Net for some time and trying to find, pick-up, tie-in, loose ends and any thing else that will help. I, always head back to Snyder & Union counties for the roots here.. and trying to relocate the cemeteries where the Brugger/Brooker (even Bruckers) whom are buried there. Saw a photo years ago, not in my possession, but another relative of a Zeller(s) monument at a graveyard, not sure where! And I was trying find any details what took Isaac & Sarah Updegrove Brooker all way to Indiana in the 1860s, to Pulaski County, where a bunch of Bruggers were already there, before He translocated to Fulton County, Indiana in the late 1870s at Bruce Lake Station. What was their business in Snyder before heading to Indiana. You can see Their Monument at the Moon Cemetery in Fulton Co. IN on Findagrave(dot)com and contact me at
< johnedorite45@yahoo.com > especially if you have any updates since 2004.
Hello Eellitta,

As I am looking for information about a different Brugger family that lived in the Portland area, do you happen to have access to a database for The Oregonian that includes pre-1989 obits? Looking for obituaries for Daniel Brugger, passed away in Multnomah County on 7 October 1966; John Brugger, passed away in Portland on 13 May 1985; and/or Ulrich Brugger, passed away in Multnomah County on 2 June 1980. Thanks very much.

Are you looking at a particular group of families? I have found many in Minnesota and Wisconsin, mostly related in some way. There are also many in western Pennsylvania that many be distantly related. I'm not sure how the SD Bruggers may be connected.

Try the 'Brucker' spelling. That has popped up a couple of times.

Thanks for the response. My Great Great Grandfather Peter Brugger came over in the 1870's, they stayed in Pennsylvania for a while then moved to Minn., then to Colorado. That is where my Great Uncles Andrew and John changed their names to Brooker. Andrew stayed in Colo. until the 1910's then moved to L.A Cal. John moved back to Penn. or New York in the same time period and I don't have much info on him. My Grandfather also name Peter went to Minn from ther went to S.D, and homesteaded in Spink county. He to also moved to L.A. around 1917.

I started this back in 1999 and it looks like we kind of fizzled. I have been doing some research and came up with a few things on the Peter Brugger family from Spink County South Dakota and the Andrew Brooker family from Livermore Colorado. There also was a John Brugger who changed his name to Brooker and moved from Colorado back to New York prior to 1910 and I believe he got married there to Mary N. If anyone is interested or has some info I would enjoy hearing from you.
Wayne Brugger
sod124@aol.com

I am looking to get any information that I can get on two ancestors born on St.Vincents: Jacob Brugger born in about 1809 and Susannah Brugger born in 1806. I believe their parents were Swiss-Germans. Both Jacob and Susannah emigrated to England and ended up living in in Upnor (nr Rochester) in Kent. I have details of Jacob once in England, but no information about his parents, siblings etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I seem to have hit a roadblock.

My ggrandfather was Jerimiah or Jerry Brugger who lived in Lake City, IA. He had 5 siblings. Is perhaps one of them your family? Jerrys parents Fidel Brugger and Mary Ann (Wunderly) came from Baden Germany in 1852 and settled in Washington County Wisc.

I know that our relative came from Switzerland in 1880, and settled eventually in New Castle, Colorado. His name was Christian Brugger (or Christ Bruegger), b. 1856. He died in the Vulcan mine incident on Feb 18 1896 in New Castle.

He came over from Switzerland on 18 Jul 1880 on the Suevia to New York.

I haven't been able to find any other family that came over before or after him.

Any help would be appreciated.
