Re: Brun from New Brunswick Canada

Michelle,

I'm the same lineage as you, but my records show Charles (1706) has 2 sons, Michel and Pierre (DOB unknown to me).
I know I have a Jean in my lineage (married Constance Miville-Deschenes), but it's more recent than 1735. I also have no sign of Benonie.....

One outstanding question for me is whether Marie Renee Breau/Brot/Brod is one or two people. Based on birthplaces and DOB for Madeleine and Andree VS Sebastien, Francoise and Marie, I'm inclined to believe the version outlined here:

http://by114w.bay114.mail.live.com/default.aspx?wa=wsignin1....

It would be interesting to share our trees - perhaps there's a whoile branch missing from mine?

Thanks, Phil
This is also my line. I have complete lineage (paternal) from Ambroise back to Vincent Brun (DOB 1616). Also forward from Ambroise as well. By this time many of our relatives were using LEBRUN. My grandparents lived their entire lives in Ste Anne....

email me and I'll send you the tree!

Re: Peter Pettersson BRUN b.1804 Sweden

My maiden name was BRUN. My Grandfather, Gustaf Adolf Brun was born in 1895. His father, Carl Ludwig Brun was born in Gammalkil in Ostergotland. Carl Ludwig's mother was named Stina Jacobsdotter and was unwed when he was born. No one is certain where the sirname BRUN came from. Carl Ludwig's mother died when he was a small boy and he lived in the poor house. Eventually, he was taken in and raised by a local couple-perhaps thats where the Brun name comes from. I am not sure when, but one of the Swedish kings had no children and spent time in France he brought back someone named "Bernadotte" and that name is the present Royal Family's sirname. I have often thought that perhaps a lot of French people, soldiers, etc., came to Sweden during that time and Brun is French for Brown. I would like to hear from you. Interestingly enough, my Paternal Grandmother's maiden name was Pettersson from Fagersta, Vastmanland.

I'm doing a project for my religious studies class at college on it, and I see that a Brun ancestor, Mr. Joseph Brunn, was a pastor there.
My Brun family changed their name to Brunn in the US; they are also from Andreis, Friuli region. My ggrandfather's name was Luigi (Louis) Brunn, his father's name was Giovanni (John) Brun, and his father's name is uncertain, but may have been Antonio.

The Brunns in my family eventually settled in Hazleton, PA; Louis married a Maria Rosello, whose mother and father, Rocco and Carmela Minuto Rosello, also came from Italy, and we think they emmigrated from Brindisi, but were factually rom Northern Italy, too.

Some of our Brunn family lived in Little Italy, in NYC; Rev. Joseph Brunn, of the Broome Street Tabernacle, is a relation.

Is there a connection with your Brun family?

Do you have Mazzerolle and Diorner or Dornier names in your family history? Another searcher is looking for this information here at Rootsweb/Ancestry.

Belonie Mazzerolle is the son of a David Mazzerolle and a Caroline Brun. He is looking for the parents of David and of Caroline.

I found numerous names for each in Maine in the US census.

If you need help looking them up I'd be happy to do so for you; if you want to search Canada's archives for your ancestors, go to:

www.lac-bac.ca and also check www.ellisisland.org

as many people came into the US from Canada for work, often returning to their home country or to Canada after a period of about 5 years each time.

For Canadian immigration records go to:

www.lac-bac.ca

Also check and see if any relatives who came to Canada later went on to the US by checking

www.ellisisland.org

Caterina Bucco is a relative of my Domenica Bucco from Udine; I am just not sure where along the line this is; I believe they were cousins.

Angelo Brun is the name of one of my great great grandfather's brothers; they had a cousin with that name as well.

Giovanni Brun was my great great grandfather; his brothers were Giacomo, Angelo, Lutagardo, Natale and Giuseppe. There were two sisters, also but no one has recorded their names as far as I know.

Their mother and father were Antonio Angelo Brun and Cristina Trinco or Trincus Brun. The family lived in Andreis. They have another relative named Guido Brun, whose name is on a marker in the town square of Andreis, honoring WWI dead.

Giovanni Brun married Domenica Bucco; their children were Luigi, Silvio and Maria Cristina Brun. His brother Giuseppe Brun married Lucia DeAngelis, was widowed and later married a Carrie Myer or Meyer. Giovanni became known as John Brunn in the US after he settled in PA and Gisueppe was later called Reverend Joseph Brunn after he settled in New York City.

Natale Brun died in Italy and is buried there. He was in the Italian military (Army/Calvary?); Lutgardo was also in the Italian Military but I do no know for sure if it was the Navy or what branch. Giacomo stayed in Italy also; I do not know what he did there.

The Brun family had a stone and wood cutting business in Italy before WWII; I believe it became defunct after WWI.

The Brun family donated the land for the town school, which was later destroyed in an earthquake, then later the town hall was built on that same site. The children there in Andreis began being bused to another town which was larger, so no school was rebuilt in its place.
Brun > Brunn ~ from Friuli region, Italy

I have since found that Domenica Bucco, from Frisanco (Friuli region, but nearer Udine) married Giovanni Brun of Andreis, Italy and was the mother of my great grandfather, Luigi Brun, who became known as Louis Brunn here in America.

Giovanni and Domenica are the parents of Luigi along with his brother Silvio and their sister Maria Cristina Brun. Domenica Bucco had a sister or cousin named Caterina Bucco, who was married to a Pietro Brun, of Philadelphia, PA.

Pietro and Giovanni are related to an Angelo Brun; I believe Giovanni and Angelo are brothers and Pietro is their cousin. Pietro and Caterina Brun and their family lived in Chestnut Hill, PA on Benezot (?) Street in the early 1900s, while Giovanni and his family eventually emigrated from NYC to Ridgway, PA. Luigi Brun (Louis Brunn) later emigrated from Ridgway to Hazleton, PA.

Giovanni's brother, The Rev. Joseph Brunn (Giuseppe Brun) converted and became an Italian Presbyterian; he married in NYC and became a minister in Little Italy; his son Paul Brunn became an attorney in NYC.

I just received the biography of Rev. Joseph Brunn in the mail today from my second cousin, Jim Brunn, who lives in Niagara Falls, NY. Jim is the son of John Brunn and Viola Woodring; John Brunn is the son of Luigi Brun, who is the son of Giovanni Brun.

Anyway, Jim thinks we are related to an Angelo Brun, brother of Giovanni, who may have emigrated from NY to Canada after passing thru either NYC or Philadelphia.

I'll get back to you once I read the bio/he lets me know what the connection is and we'll see if it matches up!

hello, im not sure if this info. fits my family. As far as we know, no one in our family immigrated to the U.S. and everyone is catholic. Also, my grandfather angelo brun came to Canada in 1957. His twin brother came some years later because he was in the military in Italy. Immigration into Canada in general started much later than it did in the U .S. I will have to ask my grandfather some questions to see if there is any relation, but to my knowledge and even to my mother, there does not seem to be any relation.

Hello, i received your message about the Brun Family. My maternal grandfather is Angelo Brun, from Andreis, Friuli. He also has a twin brother named Primo. Im not sure if our families are related, but here is a bit more info. Maybe there is a link somewhere down the line. My grandfathers parents were Caterina Bucco Brun and Pietro Brun. Caterina parents were Giovanni and Teresa Bucco. Pietro Bruns parents were Angelo Brun and Luisa Boz Brun. However, we were once told that the last name Brun had been changed and that there is a possibility that it used to be Braun, but we are not certain. Let me know if this helps.
Ivana Robino

I know of a Philip
and a niece named Exeline who died at age 72 in
1994. Leona's mother was Melodie my mom thinks,
she had to give her kids to other people to raise
because her husband died. I don't know if these
are related, but there were many siblings like I
said. Good luck, maybe we have a connection.
Oh she also had a sister named Pauline that was
married to a Landry, & lived in Sanford, ME.
Michelle

Brun from New Brunswick Canada

Julie,
With the help of many people I have traced my
Brun lineage back to 1500's. They were one of
the first families to settle in Acadia. My
grandmother was Leona Brun born in Shediac,
New Brunswick Canada. She was born in 1896.
Her father was Martin b. 1860. His father was
Charles b. 1830. His father was Benonie b. 1783.
His father was Jean b. 1735. His father was
Charles b. 1706. His father was Abraham b. 1680.
His father was Sebastien b. 1655. His father was
Vincent b. 1611 in LaChausee, Loudon, France.
His father was Louis (LeBrun) Brun b. circa
1582 in France. That is as far back I have
gotten. Do you know where your Bruns were
from? Even your grandparents? My grandmother
and sisters and brothers were seperated as
children raised by other families, some in
Maine.

Michelle
