Brunswick.. was it Braunschweig?

Hi, I just found this site. I've always been fascinated about this side of my family. I'm in the Sacramento, California area. My grandfather was John Brunswick.. born in Germany April 29th, 1890. He came over with his father Richard, and brother Martin, in 1907. They later sent for his mother and sisters.. and settled in San Francisco. The name was "Americanized" when they came over.. and I'm still trying to determine the spelling of the original names. His parents were Richard and Ida.. though those names may have been given on their arrival. John passed away in 1969, just short of his 80th birthday, in Sacramento. His brother Martin lived in Modesto and from what I gather, passed away in 1992. They had a sister, my Aunt Martha.. and another I never knew.. Valeska(not sure of the spelling). I hope this info helps someone.. and I'd appreciate anything you can pass along to me.

Re your message, I'm interested in locating relatives of my wife's Brunswick immigrants from Germany. Was your Brunswick ancestors from Germany, particularly Hanover or Westphalia?

Yes.. they came from Germany, though I'm not sure of the area. My Grandfather(John), his brother(Martin) and father(Richard), arrived in 1907. From what I understand.. they arrived in Philadelphia to stay with friends, then moved on to San Francisco. After a time..they saved money to send for the remaining family members.. at least 2 sisters(Vasleska and Marta) and his mother (Ida). John put himself through college..first graduating from USC, then Garrett Seminary. He served as a Methodist minister in Northern California for more than 40 years.. the last 20 years or so he lived in the Sacramento area. He passed away at 79 in 1969. His brother Martin worked various jobs in the Modesto area... and eventually became a minister himself. Marta..or Martha (my Dad's Aunt) married Albert Rauber.. and lived in Milbrae. I know I have Brunswick relatives in the Modesto area of California, but I'd enjoy finding more in other locations.. and learning more of the early Brunswicks.
