Catherine, who married William Bulman/Bullman (spelled different ways in different records), was the daughter of Garrett Roche and Kit Hennessy. Garrett was a brother to my 3rd ggrandather, Richard Roche of Castleterry. Although Catherine Roche Bulman is part of my extended family (direct if you think that Garrett, Catherine's father, and Richard, my relative, both had the same father), these two families remained close. I have not done any additional resedearch on this family. You can always contact me at my email address if you are interested: janfortado@comcast.net
Hi,

How are you? My mother has information on Bulmans that were her ancestors from Mitchelstown. Her great grandmother was Bulman, I cant recall her first name although it may be Catherine. This woman married a Nunan man (again I am unsure of the first name). We have the remainder of the family tree from the Bulman connection to the present. I hope this is some help to you. I think there is one 'l' in the Bulmans we are connected to.

Regards,

James

Bulman Missing Males

I am trying to discover what happened to my Great Grandfather Joseph Bulman and my Great Uncle Henry Ambrose Bulman.

Joseph was born in 1843 and up until 1881 census was living in Gateshead Co Durham UK. My grandfather William was born in 1884 and Joseph is shown on his birth certificate. Josephs wife, Sarah Ann nee Parker, died in 1887. After this date we have no record of Joseph.

The family were then split up, my grandfather along with 2 brothers, Joseph Jnr and Henry Ambrose, are to be found in the 1891 census in Gateshead Workhouse. Their sister, Mary Isabella, and elder brother John Henry are accounted for.

I have successfully completed the lifes of all family members except for Joseph Snr and Henry Ambrose, dob of Henry 1881.

My grandfather would never talk about his family and up until we started researching we only new of one sibling. We did not even have a name. The only clues we have are that "he" emmigrated, we do not know if this refers to Joseph or Henry, or both. Also something has been mentioned about the goldrush. We have no trace of Henry after 1901.

Does anyone have relatives who would fit into this puzzle?

William Bulman/Bullman of Ballinacaheragh, near Mitchelstown, Cork

One of my extended family, Catherine Roche, married WILLIAM BULLMAN on February 6, 1861 in the RC parish of Glanworth, Cork. Maurice Roche served as a witness as well as a Bullman, but his first name is illegible. Also, the name was recorded as “Bulman” on the marriage record. The Bullmans were from Ballinacaheragh, about 3 mi. from Mitchelstown. I had once learned from another researcher that William had siblings Thomas (who married Catherine Condon), Alice (who married John Allen and immigrated to the U.S. where they had 13 children), and Anthony (who came to the U.S.).

Their children: Anthony Bullman 1864; Alice Bullman; Thomas Bullman 1866; Ann Bullman 1867; Kate Bullman 1869; David Bullman 1871; Mary Bullman 1873; John Bullman1875; Johanna Bullman 1877; William Bullman 1879; Robert Bullman 1881;
David 1884; and there might have been a Peggy.

Colin

I would like a copy of the info you got in Tralee please . My email address mick_howard@hotmail.com

There was a John born in Youghal in 1888. He was the son of William & Johanna Fitzgerald. William married Johanna in Mitchelstown on 8 May 1879. When John was born in 1888 William's address was given as America & he was a carpenter. Your William's father was John, a carpenter. They must have been related. I've been following the deaths of the Youghal Bulmans in the Examiner on line. I read somewhere some time ago of a Youghal Bulman being buried in a cemetery near Mitchelstown but I cannot remember who or where. Have you got a copy of your grandads birth cert - if you have I would be grateful for the info on it as I havn't been able to track it down.

Let me know how you are getting on.

Regards

Mick

Timothy Bulman born 28 Oct 1886 was the son of Thomas & Mary Linehan. My grandmother Mary Bulman was born on 9 Apr 1873 was the daughter of Thomas & Mary Curtin. Those 2 Thomas' were having children around the same time in the Rathcormac/Carrignavar area of Cork. We are almost sure they were cousins as when my great aunt Margaret went to the US in 1908 she was going to her cousin Ellen Murphy - Ellen was the daughter of Thomas & Mary Linehan. I've got more info on Thomas & Mary Linehan's children which I'll send on to you if you want it.
Bulman Family of Dane County, Wisconsin via Oneida County, New York

Starting research on the Bulman family that settled in Cottage Grove, Dane County, Wisconsin in the 1850's. One obituary indicates the family came from Utica, Oneida County, New York.

I am connected to this line via Jessie (Bulman) Munsell [1884-1922], daughter of Charles M Bulman [1854-1931] and Mattie J (UNKNOWN) Bulman [1858-1914]. Jessie is buried in the Cottage Grove Cemetery under a stone that only bears her maiden name.

Please feel free to contact me if you are also researching this line.

www.Lohr-Genealogy.com

Hi Colin

I hope you know what your letting yourself in for. Despite the fact that there weren't many of them & the nearly all lived in Co Cork they very difficult to trace. The lack of censuses pre 1901 is a major problem.

The first mention of a Bulman in Cork seems to be Thomas who was "an english protestant" claiming for damage done to his farm during the 1641 rebellion. The next mention is of a Francis who was having children in Castletownroche in the late 1700s. I believe - but can't prove - that he was probably our common ancestor. After 1800 (when church records started to appear) Bulmans turn up in Annakissy, Doneraile, Mitchelstown, Ballyhooley, Glanworth, Rathcormack, Carrignavar, Watergrasshill & Cork city.

My grandmother was Mary, daughter of Thomas & Mary Curtin. She was born in Kildinan, Rathcormack in 1873. Thomas was a labourer & his children were born the Carrignavar/ Rathcormack area with the last being born in Glanworth. Thomas then moved to Kilworth where he died in 1897.

Your grandfather William - a motorman - married Hanna Supple in Grange on 10 Sep 1922. His father was John a carpenter.

A William son of John was baptised in Youghal in 1888. You should be able to get his details fron the Irish Family History Foundation. Unfortunately it costs 5Euros per record.

I would be very interested in any info you come across on Bulmans as I have been trying to piece together the different families as I believe we are all related - however distant.

Regards

Mick

London

Unfortunately William is not a name that crops up in my family.

I've got a lot of info on Bulmans but I've found no William born in Fermoy or Mitchelstown around 1888. There is a William born in Youghal in 1888. I believe the Youghal Bulmans came from Mitchelstown.

Hope this helps

Mick

Re: Bulmans Limited, Vernon BC

Good morning from Victoria, B.C.

The only information the I can give you is the following.
This was sent to me in an e-mail ---
Vernon News --- Vernon, B.C.
On Oct 25, 1928 a number of buildings were burned to the ground including the old jam factory. Only the dehydration building remained. Bulman's applied to the City of Vernon to guarantee bonds valued at $50,000 so that the cannery and the rest of the plant could be rebuilt. (Remember that the
minimum wage at the time was $.27 per hr for women and
$.35 per hr for men) Money had very different value. Between 400 and 500 rate payers will have to carry the load of the guarantee if Bulman's fails. On the one hand there was a good deal of Street talk about the issue, much of it negative, but it was recognized by the Council that the Co. distributed about $70,000 a year back to the community.
They got the guarantee only to be faced by the Great depression.

The Vernon Museum does have some information on the company and old newspaper articles.

Hope this helps.
I am a cousin of the family, but do not have much inf. on the
company.
Cheers JJ

greetings,

I would be most interested in inforation on the Bullmans Ltd. Co. I am not related, but when we moved into our current home, we found boxes of dehydrated, canned vegetables from the Bullman Factory. I am just interested in finding out more information about the canned goods and where they originated.

Have a great day. Tracey
