Bura Family (Karpuk, Semeniuk)

I'm looking for information about the Bura family, my great grandfather Piotr Bura immigrated to Canada in 1935 from Poland with Auklina Semeniuk and their 6 children including Olga, Micholaig (Nick) Eugenia (Jean), Nadzia (Nancy), and Verna was born in Canada. They also brought over Emelion and Lukia (lucy) Bura. They left behind Taras Karpuk and Pauline Bura along with Walter Karpuk who married Anna, also Verka Karpuk, Fidoshia Karpuk and others.

My family name was originally Bure, changed to Bura in the US. Father, Vytautas aka Witold, came from Latezheris, Lithuania, though it has also been noted as being in Poland. Family members lived in Lithuania, Poland, and Belarus, all originally Lithuanian. His parents & grandparents visited the family branch in Belarus in the 1920's I think. I knew there was a branch of the family that settled in Brockton, Mass, we visited there when I was a small child in the early 50's. My parents settled in Philadelphia because father's uncle Joseph was already living there.

I don't know about Polish (father spoke it and Lithuanian, but I spoke Lithuanian) Bure is the masculine surname, Buriene would be the wife, in Lithuanian.

My grandfather Harry Bura came to the US prior to WWII. Most of my family from Romania, Budapest I believe lived in a town of La Posh (spelling) I know the Bura house was taken over durring the war and is being currently used by the forestry department. After the war Harry assisted who ever was left from the area come to the US and even put them up in buildings in NYC. He had many brothers and sisters and most killed in concentration camps. His two brothers Jack & Nat were liberated from Aushwitz and came to the US with their sister Bertha. If any of this is familiar my email is rbura@optonline.net

Wow! this is the most promising contact we've had so far! Maybe we are related (although I'm only a Bura through marriage).
Was your Harry ever known by any other names? It seems a lot of our side of the family changed their names when they moved to the UK. Moise became Morris, Jacob became Jack, etc...

If you've got any more info about your Buras I'd love to know, and I'll see if I can find anything else.

Hi Bev, sorry for my delay in replying, but I only just found these messages.
You've got the right family, but the wrong person. I think you're looking for Leah, Carol's daughter. I'm Leigh, Kevin's daughter in law (I'm only a Bura by association). Confusing I know!
I'd love to hear any info you have on the Bura brothers, as our knowledge is quite limited. I've managed to find out maurice (or Moisse) married a Lucy Ellen Blinkhorn in Manchester, but so far that's about it. Still trying to find anything out about the brother.

hi leigh it's Beverley Bura, your mums cousin, could you please get a message to your mum as i have changed my phone number i won't put it in this email incase it isnt you but i think it is you. maurcie bura as my dad always spelt it that way jacob (jack), maurice came over here with his borther and Edaward G robinson who was his friend in romania, maurice got off at england and edward got off at amercia he also had a brother here as for maurice having any other brothers or sisters that came here to england i only know about the one that came to england, just let me know that this is you before i email you anymore thanks

My Grandfather Harry Bura came to the US from the same area in the early 1900's. He had about 16 brothers and sisters. Just about the entire family kiiled off in concentration camps. He did bring over 2 brothers Jack & Nat and one sister Bertha. Any chance we are related?

I'm looking for a lost Romanian Bura too.

My G Grandfather, Moise Bura, was born in Romania (we think Bucharest) in the late 1800's. We think his father was called Lebu Bura, or maybe Lebu was shortened from Leibervici or Leibervich or Leibervichi

Moise Bura and his brother were put on a boat to flee Romania in 1903.

Moise came to the UK, and the other brother went to the USA. The story has it that he was on the same boat as Edward G Robinson.

If anybody has any information about any of them we'd love to know.
